Abstract: Steering wheel assembly in a vibratory tandem compactor providing electronic circuit and computer code for controlling the steering wheel assembly, implementing the steering wheel assembly in a device, and operating the steering wheel assembly, the electronic circuit and the computer code, both stand alone and in conjunction with one another is part of this subject matter.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a steering wheel assembly in a vibratory tandem compactor
and method thereof, more particularly the present invention relates to a displaceable steering
wheel even.
Background of the invention:
The steering wheels are commonly used in vehicles and other devices for effectuating either
lever motion or pulley system or both. Compactors are such system that use steering wheel.
In a convention compactor, steering wheel is fixed and the operator of the steering wheel can
position herself according to the position of the steering wheel.
Object of the invention:
The principal object of the invention is to provide a Steering wheel assembly.
Another object of the invention is to provide a Steering wheel assembly in a Vibratory
Tandem Compactor.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a Steering wheel assembly which is used for
changing the driving direction while travelling.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a Steering wheel assembly with three
Positions; the Mechanical Positioning is done for both Left and Right side steering operation
Yet another object is to provide a method for manufacturing a steering wheel assembly in a
vibratory tandem compactor.
These and other objects of the present invention are achieved by present specification which
are as under:
Accordingly an object of the present invention is a steering wheel assembly. The present
invention also relates to a steering wheel assembly in a Vibratory Tandem Compactor. More
particularly, this present invention also relates to a steering wheel assembly which is used for
changing the driving direction and converts rotation of steering wheel to hydraulic steering
unit. Furthermore, this invention of steering wheel assembly is with three Positions; the
mechanical positioning is done to pivot steering at left, center and right position.
Summary of the invention:
According to the present invention there is provided an steering wheel assembly in a
vibratory tandem compactor providing electronic circuit and computer code for controlling
the steering wheel assembly, implementing the steering wheel assembly in a device, and
operating the steering wheel assembly, the electronic circuit and the computer code, both
stand alone and in conjunction with one another is part of this subject matter.
A steering wheel which is operable from multiple positions and is achieved by providing
provisions to displace the steering wheel assembly from one position to another.
Some of them are: multiple operators may operate the steering wheel without having to move
from their respective position, instead the steering wheel assembly is displaced to enable
multiple operators to operate the steering wheel; enables both the left handed and right
handed operators to operate the steering wheel with ease and comfort etc;
Accessibility of the compactor improves shifting of an steering and operator improves vision
of the operator and allows better access to the compactor by displacing the steering wheel and
achieving the desired access or vision for the operator.
There are three position of locking the complete assembly and can be achieved with locking
lever knob given on the steering column
Generally in a compactor the steering wheel is fixed at the center of the compactor. An
operator of the compactor is required to position herself accordingly. Often a single operator
operates the steering wheel.
The present subject matter provides a steering wheel assembly. The steering wheel assembly
is such that the steering wheel is operable from multiple positions. This feature is achieved by
providing provisions to displace the steering wheel assembly from one position to another.
This feature is advantageous in many ways, some of them are: multiple operators may
operate the steering wheel without having to move from their respective position, instead the
steering wheel assembly is displaced to enable multiple operators to operate the steering
wheel; enables both the left handed and right handed operators to operate the steering wheel
with ease and comfort etc; improves accessibility of the compactor, that is where shifting of
an steering and operator improves vision of the operator and allows better access to the
compactor such task are now performed by displacing the steering wheel and achieving the
desired access or vision for the operator. There are three position of locking the complete
assembly and can be achieved with locking lever knob given on the steering column.

FIG.3 shows a third view of the steering assembly, wherein the steering assembly is mounted
on a compactor; and
FIG.4 shows a fourth view of the steering assembly, wherein the steering assembly is
mounted on a compactor.
Detailed description of the preferred embodiments:
The following description is solely for the purpose of explanation and better understanding of
the subject matter. In the following description is merely exemplary and no way limited to
discussed embodiments or implementation of the subject matter. The following description
largely discusses the present subject matter with the help of its embodiment in compactors,
however the subject matter is no way limited to the embodiment described herein. Other
embodiments of the present subject matter, wherein the steering wheel assembly is
implemented in other vehicles such as cars, busses, trucks etc shall become apparent from
what follows.
FIG.l shows a first view of the steering wheel assembly. The steering wheel assembly
comprises a swivel arm. The swivel arm has a first end and a second end. At the first end of
the swivel arm a steering wheel is mounted. The second end of the swivel arm is mounted on
a mounting plate. At the second end of the swivel arm, a pivot is provided. The swivel arm is
provided with a mechanism to engage and disengage itself to allow motion around the pivot.
To displace the steering wheel the swivel arm is disengaged to allow free motion around the
pivot, when the steering wheel is displaced to attain desired position the swivel arm is then
engaged to lock itself at the desired location.
The steering wheel is provided with a chain to operate and control the compactor. The chain
runs along the swivel arm and connects to a shaft, which eventually transfers the rotation of
the steering wheel into command for the compactor. The chain shown in the figure is merely
an example and an appropriate pulley mechanism or an electronic circuit could replace the
change altogether. Such embodiments and other embodiments are also part of this disclosure.
Table 1 shows list of different mechanical parts used in the embodiment shown in the FIG. 1
through FIG. 4.
FIG. 2 shows a second view of the steering view assembly.
FIG.3 shows a third view of the steering assembly, wherein the steering assembly is mounted
on a compactor.
FIG.4 shows a fourth view of the steering assembly, wherein the steering assembly is
mounted on a compactor.
Although the above steering wheel assembly is described with reference to a compactor
device, the steering wheel assembly may be implemented in devices other than compactors,
including but not limited to moving vehicles such as cars, trucks, trains, ship, aircrafts etc and
non moving devices where steering wheel is required.
The present subject matter further provides a method for manufacturing the steering wheel
assembly and method for implementing the steering wheel assembly in a device.
The present subject matter further, provides electronic circuit and computer code for
controlling the steering wheel assembly, implementing the steering wheel assembly in a
device, and operating the steering wheel assembly. The electronic circuit and the computer
code, both stand alone and in conjunction with one another is part of this subject matter.
It is appreciable after reading this disclosure that the various embodiments discussed herein
may not be the same embodiment, and may be grouped into various other embodiments not
explicitly disclosed herein. Further, it is appreciable after reading this disclosure that the
various operations, methods, processes, and methods disclosed herein may be embodied in a
single mechanical or electrical or computer code component and may be practiced in any
order or realized the basic concept described herein without departing from the spirit of the
disclosure. Accordingly, the specification and drawings are to be regarded in an illustrative
rather than a restrictive sense.
WE CLAIM:
1. Steering wheel assembly in a vibratory tandem compactor providing electronic circuit
and computer code for controlling the steering wheel assembly, implementing the steering
wheel assembly in a device, and operating the steering wheel assembly, the electronic circuit
and the computer code, both stand alone and in conjunction with one another is part of this
subject matter.
2. Steering wheel assembly in a vibratory tandem compactor as claimed in claim 1,
wherein a steering wheel which is operable from multiple positions and is achieved by
providing provisions to displace the steering wheel assembly from one position to another.
3. Steering wheel assembly in a vibratory tandem compactor as claimed in claims 1 and
2, wherein some of them are: multiple operators may operate the steering wheel without
having to move from their respective position, instead the steering wheel assembly is
displaced to enable multiple operators to operate the steering wheel; enables both the left
handed and right handed operators to operate the steering wheel with ease and comfort etc;
4. Steering wheel assembly in a vibratory tandem compactor as claimed in claims 1, 2
and 3, wherein accessibility of the compactor improves shifting of an steering and operator
improves vision of the operator and allows better access to the compactor by displacing the
steering wheel and achieving the desired access or vision for the operator.
