Stirling Electric Chulha

Abstract: The "Chulha Stirling Engine for Power Generation" uses the heat energy from chulha in a Stirling engine to produce electrical energy. The chulha made of clay or sheet metal is used to supply heat energy to a Stirling engine of alpha, gamma or beta configuration. The Stirling engine hot cylinder is exposed to the hot gas inside the chulha and cold cylinder to atmospheric temperature. The Stirling engine is coupled with a electric generator. As the heat is supplied to the hot cylinder during cooking ,the difference in temperature of gases in the hot cylinder and cold cylinder will move the flywheel coupled with the crank disc which in turn is connected with the hot and cold piston. As the electric generator is coupled with the flywheel, when the chulha is used for cooking, electric power is produced from the generator.By connecting a battery with the generator, electric energy can also be stored for later use when the chulha is not in use.

None of the above literature or patent or any other actual product available in market at present uses chulha as a heat source in a Stirling engine system to produce electrical energy for micro power generation applications.Stirling engines are at present used only for large scale waste heat recovery and solar energy applications. This invention uses chulha for heat source to run a Stirling engine and produce electric power.

Object of the Invention:
[1] The object of this invention focuses on the application of Stirling engine for electric power production in a small chulha made of metal or clay.

[2] Another object is to utilize hot gas from the chulha is used to heat the hot cylinder of the Stirling engine while make the cold cylinder exposed to atmospheric air.

[3] A further object of the invention is to made the Stirling engine either as an integral part of the chulha or as an separate attachment and also couple the engine with a small generator to produce electrical energy to be used in a small house.

[4] One more object of this invention is to store the electrical energy produced in the generator in a battery for later use even when the chulha is not used for cooking.

[5]Yet another object of the invention is to utilise the waste heat from the chulha without any additional fuel thus increasing the efficiency of the chulha.

Statement of Invention:
This invention has a chulha made of either clay or sheet metal with a Stirling engine of alpha ,beta or gamma type made as an integral part or as a separate attachement with Chula and coupled with a electric generator to produce electric power when the chulha is used for cooking. Summary of Invention:
Traditionally the Stirling engine as a waste heat recovery device has been used for high temperature applications like boiler heat recovery, power plant heat recoveryJ.C Engines heat recovery etc. This particular invention of the Stirling Electric Chula utilizes waste heat or thermal energy from a chulha to produce electricity using a Stirling engine. The Stirling engine may be an integral part of the chulha or it may be removable type of alpha, beta or gamma configuration. The electric generator coupled with the Stirling engine flywheel produces electricity. The waste heat to electricity generation in a micro level in a house hold application will make the chulha a high technology appliance..As the chulha uses low grade energy source like biomass, generating high grade electrical energy from chulha is a promising new technology. The fact that this can be
used for any configuration like alpha, beta and gamma configurations make this invention a highly flexible in manufacturing point of view.
Brief Description of drawings:
The invention is illustrated in Drawing 1 which indicates the chulha with Stirling engine and electric, generator. It includes the chulha(l) ,combined with the Stirling engine where the hot cylinder(4) is inserted in the chulha and cold cylinder(5) is kept at atmospheric temperature outside the chulha. The flywheel(3) ,which is connected with the crank plate(6) stores the energy and reduce the energy fluctuations considerably. ' The connecting rod(7) connects the piston of hot cylinder and cold cylinder with the crank plate. The regenerator(8) placed between hot cylinder and cold cylinder in this alpha configuration increases the thermal efficiency of the system by storing thermal energy and supply it alternately to hot gas and cold gas.The entire Stirling engine and the electric generator(9) set up is placed in a base plate(2).This enable the Stirling engine set up to be removed for any maintenance or repair to enable the chulha to be used even without the Stirling engine setup.A battery(lO) is connected with the generator to store electrical energy. Drawing 2 illustrates the dimension of various components of the invention. Drawing 3 illustrates the exploded view of the invention for clear and detailed view of inner parts of the Stirling engine.

Detailed description of the invention:
The present invention describes the integration of a chulha made of either clay or sheet metal with a sterling engine ( Alpha ,Beta or Gamma Type) coupled . with a electric generator to produce electricity from a chulha(Figl-2).It can be seen from fig. 1 that the Stirling engine is assembled as an integral part of chulha or it can be assembled as an separate part whenever required and the flywheel of the Stirling engine is coupled with a generator to produce electricity. The heat from burning the fuel in the chulha produces hot gases which heat the hot cylinder of the Stirling engine. The cold cylinder is exposed to atmosphere and the temperature is maintained at atmospheric. The temperature difference between hot and cold cylinder makes the hot piston and cold piston to reciprocate inside the respective cylinders. The hot and cold cylinders are made from Stainless steel material and the hot piston is made from mild steel and cold piston

from gunmetal. The hot and cold piston connecting rods are coupled with the crank disk. The connecting rods are made from mild steel and the crank disk is made from stainless steel. The crank disk is connected with the flywheel and the arrangement of flywheel smooth out the fluctuations and provides continuous mechanical power output. Flywheel is made of Stainless steel. The flywheel is coupled with a generator which produces electricity. So the power is obtained whenever the chulha is being utilized for cooking. This electric power can be used directly for consumption or it can be stored in a battery for later usage.
