STORAGE BOX ILLUMINATING DEVICE FOR VEHICLES
This invention relates to provision of an illuminating device for storage or luggage box for vehicles. This Invention particularly is related to the illumination of the storage box used hi 2 and 3 wheeled vehicles. These types of vehicles are termed as vehicles in this specification. The present invention particularly is
related to illuminating light provided in the helmet or luggage box of these
vehicles.
Storage or luggage box Is an essential part of any vehicle. When the vehicles are in use, various articles like helmet, tools or tool kit, safety kit, registration papers, etc. are required to be accommodated. Further, the riders keep various objects
like two wheeler helmets, books, fruits, vegetables etc. Such box is elther in plastic molded form or manufactured from sheet metal parts welded together to provide box like shape and mounted or assembled on the chassis of the vehicle. Such boxes are located inside the cabin in case of three wheelers and are assembled to body or chassis externally or below the seat In case of two wheelers. Various other locations in case of two and three wheelers are possible.
The box is covered by lockable/latched hinged covers/doors or are covered by
the lockable seat. This ensures safety of the articles inside when the vehicle is parked. When the rider needs the articles kept inside, the rider parks the vehicle, opens the cover of the box by unlocking and removes the articles. The cover is then replaced back and locked.
There are certain difficulties with the known system.
-1-
During day time, when natural light is available, the owner can see articles kept
in the box after opening the seat or lockable/latched hinged cover. Whereas in
the night, in the absence of sunlight or any other light source, the owner is not able to see the articles kept in box, and hence, it is difficult to take out the required articles and takes time, in consequence, the time required to attend to the vehicle (called down time), in case it stops at an ill -illuminated spot is also considerable.
Yet another difficulty is that the inner surface of the box is always not smooth and may bear sharp edges/corners at some portions which are likely to injure fingers or any part of hand the while searching the articles, taking them out or keeping them back in the storage box in the night, In the absence of sunlight or any other light source.
Therefore, objective of the present invention is to provide suitable illuminating device so that the riders can see the articles in box easily even at the night or when light is insufficient.
Yet another objective of the invention is to provide suitable illuminating device so that the rider can avoid injury to any part of hand due to sharp inside surfaces of storage box while searching the required article.
A further objective of the invention is to reduce the down time of the vehicle when it stops at an ill-illuminated spot.
The invention, in a non-limiting embodiment, will now be explained with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:-
-2-
Fig. 1 - Illustrates front and top view of the vehicle showing helmet box position
on vehicle.
Fig. 2 - Illustrates front and top view of the helmet box showing illumination light
arrangement.
Fig. 3 - Illustrates electrical control circuit diagram for the illumination light.
The storage box illuminating device for vehicles according to present non-limiting embodiment of the invention essentially comprises of a vehicle (1), a box illumination light switch unit (3) further comprising of a light (3a), a switch (3b), a switch body (3c); seat (4), fuse (5) and battery (6). The fuse (5) will disconnect
the battery from the circuit in case of any short circuit occurring.
Fig. 1 illustrates front and top views of vehicle (1) having a seat (4) hinged on the frame of said vehicle with a lock and key arrangement (not shown on figure). The said seat can be rotated in angular motion in vertical direction after unlocking to have access to said helmet box. A helmet or luggage box (2) is fitted on the frame/chassis of the said vehicle below the said seat. The said seat encompasses a switch (3b) suitably fixed at a location and electrically connected
to battery (6). This arrangement ensures that the box illuminating device can only be operated deliberately and when the vehicle is not being ridden, in the case of
a 2- wheeler.
Fig. 2 shows the details of the helmet box (2) and the illumination light switch unit (3) in its top and front views as proposed by the invention. The said switch unit comprises of a light (3a), a switch (3b) and switch body (3c). The same is shown
in detailed view of illumination light unit. The illumination light is located at suitable location which can be easily accessed by the operator ( by practice in
the darkness also he will be able to locate it) and operated by hand, since the
-3-
operation switch (3b) is combined in light unit (3) only. The location of this illumination light switch unit (3) may vary as per the shape of the helmet box (2) and can be fixed on helmet box with suitable fastening/fixing arrangements. The designer may think of a separate operating switch (3b) located outside the
helmet box (2) at a suitable location on vehicle (1) or in the same helmet box (2) but as a separate unit as per the convenience and packaging requirement.
Fig 3 shows the electrical control circuit diagram for control of illumination light (3a). Battery (6) is connected with the illumination light (3a), fuse (S) and switch (3b) in series connection. Operation of light switch can be done manually to switch illumination light (3a) ON or OFF as per the requirement of illumination of
helmet box (2).
According to present Invention, the storage box illuminating device illuminates the storage box when operated by rider during nighttime or when available light isnot sufficient to see the articles kept in storage box and to avoid injury to his fingers or hand while searching articles, taking out the articles or keeping them back in the storage box.
The description stated above does not describe the exact locations of various components like helmet box, switch for light operation, illumination fight, fuse, battery. However, such locations are the decisions of designers and depend upon parameters like the shape and configuration of the vehicle, space available
to accommodate tight unit etc.
In the descriptions stated above and illustrated, one illuminating light switch unit is explained. It is however, possible to adopt different types of illumination light systems, like a separate switch unit located elsewhere in the vehicle and light located in the helmet box which are well within the scope of this invention.

WE CLAIM:
1. A storage box illuminating device for vehicles (1) comprising of an illumination light switch unit (3) further comprising of light (3a), switch (3b), switch body (3c), fuse (5) and battery (6), the said unit being located within helmet or luggage box (2), said box being positioned on the frame of the said vehicle below seat (4), the said unit being suitable for manual ON or OFF operation of the switch.
2. A storage box illuminating device for vehicles as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said light switch unit can be accessed only after the said seat has been unlocked and rotated in angular motion to vertical direction.
3. A storage box illuminating device for vehicles as claimed in claim 1,
wherein the said illuminating device is protected from any short circuit
by fuse (5).
4. A storage box illuminating device for vehicles substantially as herein
described and illustrated.
