SYNERGISTIC PESTICIDAL FORMULATION OF ACETAMIPRID AND BIFENTHRIN

FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a synergistic pesticidal formulation comprising Acetamiprid and Bifenthrin. The present invention particularly relates to a synergistic pesticidal formulation comprising Acetamiprid and Bifenthrin and at least one inactive ingredient, wherein the said formulation is Soluble Concentrate (SL) formulation and the process of preparation thereof.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:

Pesticides are the chemicals which are applied on plants to kill or eliminate fungus, bacteria, insects, snails, slugs, or weeds. Pesticides are broadly used in agriculture and have facilitated a massive increase in yield of crops and productivity.

Acetamiprid (NI-25; (E)-N1-[(6-chloro-3-pyridyl)methyl]-N2-cyano-N1-methylacetamidine) is a carboxamidine that is an acetamidine in which a (6-chloropyridin-3-yl) methyl and a methyl group substitutes the amino hydrogens while cyano group replaces the hydrogen attached to the imino nitrogen.

Acetamiprid is an insecticide that belongs to the class of ‘neonicotinoids’. It is derived from 2-chloropyridine. The specific structure of acetamiprid is that of a chloronicotinyl compound and it is a potent agonist at the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in insects. The major application of acetamiprid is to control insects such as Hemiptera, Thysanoptera, Lepidoptera and especially aphids.

Acetamiprid is a broad-spectrum and contact insecticide that is extensively used as replacement of other conventional insecticides for controlling sucking-type insects on various crops, especially leafy vegetables, fruits and tea bushes.

Acetamiprid is an agonist of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in various insects and affects the synapses in the insect central nervous system. It is highly soluble in water and is volatile. Acetamiprid has moderate toxicological, environmental and eco-toxicological properties.

Acetamiprid was first disclosed in US 5304566 and chemically represented as below structure:

The molecular formula of Acetamiprid is C10H11ClN4 and molecular weight is 222.67 g/ mol and having water solubility of 2950 mg/L at 20oC. Acetamiprid is stable in buffered solutions at pH 4, 5 and 7.

Acetamiprid is the insecticide from IRAC (Insecticide Resistance Action Committee) Group 4A class. Acetamiprid is a systemic insecticide with translaminar activity and with contact and stomach mode of action. The primary mechanism of acetamiprid toxicity against insects is due to its action at nicotinic cholinergic receptors. The unique nature of the neonicotinoids as insecticides is that the negatively charged cyano (or nitro) group will specifically interact with a cationic binding region that is unique to insects. This action will convey selectivity of action against insects and leave mammalian nicotinic receptors relatively unaffected.

Acetamiprid is useful to provide protection in crops like soybean, leafy vegetables, fruiting vegetables, citrus fruits, pome fruits, grapes, cotton and ornamental plants and flowers. Acetamiprid is usually formulated as soluble granules for spray application.

Bifenthrin is a broad spectrum pyrethroid insecticide used in a wide range of crops to control sucking and biting foliar pests like fire ants, blue grass weevil, armyworms, cutworms, centipedes, crickets, earwigs, millipedes, sowbugs, mole crickets, ticks, fleas, grasshoppers. Bifenthrin was first registered for use by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) in 1985.

The IUPAC name of Bifenthrin is (2-methyl-3-phenylphenyl) methyl 3-[(Z)-2-chloro-3, 3, 3-trifluoroprop-1-enyl]-2, 2-dimethylcyclopropane-1-carboxylate and the molecular formula is C23H22ClF3O2. The relative Molecular mass of Bifenthrin is 422.87 g/ mol.

Bifenthrin is a Type I pyrethroid which is effective by contact or ingestion. It affects the central and peripheral nervous system by interfering with sodium channel gating and delays the closure of the sodium channel. Bifenthrin tend to hold the channel open for shorter times compared to type II pyrethroids.

Bifenthrin is chiral molecule and is a mixture of the Z-isomer (~99.7%) and the E-isomer (~0.3%). Bifenthrin is chemically represented as below structure:

Bifenthrin is having water solubility of 0.001 mg/ L at 20 °C. Bifenthrin is the insecticide from IRAC (Insecticide Resistance Action Committee) Group 3(A) class.

Bifenthrin is effective against a broad range of foliar pests, including Coleoptera, Diptera, Heteroptera, Homoptera, Lepidoptera and Orthoptera and some species of Acarina.

Bifenthrin is useful to provide protection in crops like cereals, citrus, cotton, grapes, ornamentals and vegetables. Bifenthrin is usually formulated as emulsifiable concentrate, granular, suspension concentrate, Ultra-low volume liquid, wettable powder formulation.

In India or anywhere in the world, in agricultural production, using synthetic or chemical agent is the most effective means in order to control plant pest. However, the main disadvantage of such insecticide or pesticide is that on long run, the insects or pets develop the resistance to that insecticide or pesticide and as a result to produce effective result, higher concentration of the insecticide or pesticide is to be used. Here again using higher dose of insecticide or pesticide may result in some detrimental effect to soil as well as environment. Therefore in general practice, usually combination of pesticide with another pesticide or another herbicide or fungicide is used in different concentration as per requirement.

However, when combination of one or more pesticide are used, the main challenge comes is to develop a formulation or composition which is stable, easy to use and effective.

There are few formulations of Acetamiprid and Bifenthrin either reported individually as well in combination with other pesticides.

IN 3894/DELNP/2006 describes an insecticidal composition suitable for use in controlling general household pests comprising a mixture of i) Bifenthrin and ii) Acetamiprid, wherein the amount of bifenthrin is equal to from 0.001% by weight to 0.12% by weight and the amount of acetamiprid is equal to from 0.001% by weight to 0.20% by weight. This prior art does not comprise soluble concentrate formulation of acetamiprid and bifenthrin.

IN 1510/DEL/2015 discloses an insecticidal synergistic composition, comprising Diafenthiuron, Acetamiprid, wetting, dispersing, anticaking agent, stabilizing antifoaming agent and inert carrier silica and lavigated clay. This prior art does not comprise combination of bifenthrin with acetamiprid.

CN110637827 relates to a hygienic insecticidal composition containing acetamiprid and pyrethroid, the hygienic insecticidal composition comprises the following effective components: 1%-15% of the acetamiprid, 1%-15% of the pyrethroid and the balance of an auxiliary agent. The dosage forms comprise missible oil, emulsion in water, microemulsion and soluble liquid, wherein the pyrethroid is tetramethylfluthrin, dimefluthrin, metofluthrin, dextral trans-permethrin chlorpromazine acetylene, transfluthrin, phenothrin, teflumethrin, dextral teflumethrin, bioallethrin, chlorempenthrin, dextral allethrin and rich dextral trans-allethrin. This prior art does describe the combination acetamiprid with pyrethroid but nowhere discloses the combination of bifenthrin and acetamiprid in soluble concentrate formulation.

US2018000072 discloses a composition comprising a) Acetamiprid, b) Bifenthrin and c) a toxicity control agent. The invention also provides a method for preparing the composition as well as a method for controlling insects and acarids using the composition. This prior art does contain the combination of acetamiprid and bifenthrin but in granular formulation. While the present invention differs from the prior art because the present invention provide soluble concentrate formulation of acetamiprid and bifenthrin.

However, there is no formulation or composition available where Acetamiprid and Bifenthrin are combined in a Soluble Concentrate formulation which is stable and yet effective.

In the present invention, inventors have arrived to a pesticidal formulation of Acetamiprid and Bifenthrin in the form of Soluble Concentrate formulation which is stable, effective and overcome all the problems mentioned in prior art as described herein.
