Synthesis Of Aluminium Spent Catalyst Composite

Abstract: ABSTRACT The invention discloses a method for preparing Al/Spent catalyst composite by synthesising aluminium and spent catalyst. The method comprises the following steps: The synthesis of Al/Spent catalyst composite was done by cutting aluminium bar into small pieces for melting in a casting furnace, preheating spent catalyst in preheating furnace, stirring the preheated spent catalyst with the melted aluminium in a stirrer by maintaining constant speed using a speed controller, pouring stirred composite in metal moulds after taking out from the furnace, and testing the composite according to the prescribed standards such as ASTM. The preparation of the Al/Spent catalyst composite is simple, efficient and cost effective.

Specification

CLAIMS
r
1. A method of fabricating aluminium composites comprises:
a) cutting the aluminium bar in to small pieces
b) pre-heating the spent catalyst
c) melting the small pieces of aluminium at a temperature of 650 - 780°c
d) mixing the molten aluminium with the spent catalyst and pouring the melt in to the metal moulds

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the spent catalyst is selected form the group of catalysts used in the petrochemical processing, and preferably selected form the group of zeolite and/or vanadium
3. The method of claim 1, wherein the spent catalyst spent catalyst is pre-heated in a pre-heating furnace for a time period of about 20-80 minutes at a temperature range of about 80-180°c
4. The method of claim 1, wherein the melting of aluminium pieces and mixing the molten aluminium with the spent catalyst is performed by casting techniques, preferably by stir casting
5. An aluminium spent catalyst composite of Claim 1, comprising aluminium with spent catalysts of the petrochemical processing as the reinforcing agents.
6. The aluminium spent catalyst composite of claim5, having a hardness value of about 60- 84 HRB
7. The aluminium spent catalyst composite of claimS, having a tensile strength of about
60- 85 MPa and yield strength of about 30- 40 MPa
8. The aluminium spent catalyst composite of claim5, having a wear loss of about
0.27 - 0.67 gm and Co-efficient of friction value of about 0.7 - 0.31
