Synthesis Of Ammonia By Concentrating Sea Water

Abstract: In this method of invention the excretory material of marine animals and species which generate ammonia that is present in sea water is used as a source. An appropriate zeolite or molecular sieves specially synthesized by drilling nano pores of suitable sizes is used as membrane. These membranes are arranged in array like films and when sea waves hits the surface with pressure, Ammonia only passes through these membranes. The Ammonia generated in this method will be collected and concentrated for industrial applications.

Description

This is a unique method of producing Ammonia gas which is present in sea water abundantly. Sea water is subjected to pass through a special type of membrane where dissolved Ammonia will be extracted out and rejecting back the remaining seawater. This method solves the problems associated with present chemical synthetic routes.

Background of invention

Ammonia, or azane, is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula NH3. It is a colourless gas with a characteristic pungent smell. Ammonia contributes significantly to thenutritional needs of terrestrial organisms by serving as a precursor to food and fertilizers. Ammonia, either directly or indirectly, is also a building-block for the synthesis of manypharmaceuticals and is used in many commercial cleaning products. Although in wide use, ammonia is both caustic and hazardous.
NH3 boils at -33.34 °C at a pressure of one atmosphere, so the liquid must be stored under pressure or at low temperature. Household ammonia or ammonium hydroxideis a solution of NH3 in water. The concentration of such solutions is measured in units of theBaume scale (density), with 26 degrees baume (about 30% (by weight) ammonia at 15.5 °C or 59.9 °F) being the typical high-concentration commercial product.

The hallow zeolite container is made up of appropriate zeolite membrane

There are nano pores drilled on to the surface of the zeolite membrane

When the hollow zeolite container is submerged into the ocean water it only allows ammonia through the pores
hence ammonia will be collected in the hollow area
