Abstract: The apparatus for cleaning DPF system includes an air dryer/cleaner, air pressure regulator, table and mechanism for X,Y,Z movement, air nozzle and nozzle holder, necessary fixture to hold DPF, exhaust system with primary and secondary filters and also a control panel. System is designed to work with high air pressure input or also provided with air compressor based on requirements. High pressure air is dried, cleaned and directed to DPF from one or both the direction of DPF axis through a nozzle. This high-pressure air removes soot and ash accumulated in DPF. The Nozzle movement was controlled with a pre-programed control system. The exhaust system with pre-filter and primary filter will filter and ensure air exhausted from apparatus is clean and debris are collected in bin for disposal. The particulate matter filtering system for diesel engine is incorporated with Control mechanism for controlling and analyzing various parameters of the process.

Specification

Claims:1) A system for the cleaning of ash/particulate matter in a Diesel Particulate Filter
(DPF ) of Compression Ignition (CI) Engine, primarily using diesel as fuel, comprising of
a high-pressure air knife with or without pulsation and having single or double nozzle based on cleaning requirements. The apparatus is designed to work with high pressure input air, but also will be supported with additional air compressor in case of non-availability of high pressure air. High pressure input air will be filtered by an air filter and dryer and air pressure is regulated by a pressure control valve. ;
Cleaning apparatus is having an enclosure with two compartments upper and lower compartment. Upper compartment is to hold nozzle and DPF, lower compartment is with exhaust system. In upper compartment, Nozzle is assembled with a header and its movement will be controlled in XYZ direction with mechanism and electric motor (12) called header assembly.
2) The system for cleaning of ash/particulate matter in DPF as claimed in claim 1, wherein similar mechanism is added at bottom for two directional cleaning system which is inlet of DPF for deep cleaning system configuration and the said DPF specimen is placed at outlet top and inlet bottom direction wherein location fixtures are used to locate and hold DPF in position. And the header assembly movement is controlled with a controller based on pre-program corresponding to DPF specifications, further Controlled high pressure air is directed to DPF channels and it push out deposited ash and soot through the inlet of DPF and High pressure pulsated air or a combination of pulsation and additional high-pressure air at inlet will be used based on the nature of Ash deposit. Pulsation, two side high pressure air improves and helps deep cleaning.

3) The header assembly of cleaning apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein the header assembly precisely moves the nozzle position and ensure that all DPF channels are cleaned based on DPF specific program in controller and the cleaning may be completed in one pass or multiple passes based on amount and properties of soot and ash deposited in DPF and further, the bottom compartment is with an exhaust system with primary and secondary filters which filters the ash and soot coming out of DPF and pass cleaned air to atmosphere
4) The particulate matter filtering system as claimed in claim 1, wherein is incorporated with a Control mechanism, wherein the control system will be loaded with programs based on DPF specifications and it controls the header assembly movement. Control system may have provisions to select appropriate programs based on inputs and indicates start and end of cleaning process. Control system may generate reports at the end of end cleaning process. , Description:The system works with high pressure air knife with or without pulsation and having single or double nozzle based on cleaning requirements, DPF system specifications and DPF calibration. The apparatus is designed to work with high pressure input air, but also will be supported with additional air compressor in case of non-availability of high pressure air. High pressure input air will be filtered by an air filter and dryer (10) and pressure is regulated by a pressure control valve (11). This regulated clean air is connected to a nozzle (13) which direct air pressure to DPF outlet face. Air piping connects inlet to air dryer, air dryer to air pressure controller and air pressure controller to nozzle.
Cleaning apparatus is having an enclosure with two compartments upper and lower compartment. Upper compartment is to hold nozzle and DPF, lower apartment is with exhaust system. In upper compartment, Nozzle is assembled with a header and its movement will be controlled in XYZ direction with mechanism and electric motor (12) called header assembly. The DPF specimen (14) is placed at outlet top and inlet bottom direction. Location fixtures are used to locate and hold DPF in position. The header assembly movement is controlled with a controller based on pre-program corresponding to DPF specifications. Controlled high pressure air is directed to DPF channels and it push out deposited ash and soot through the inlet of DPF. High pressure pulsated air or a combination of pulsation and additional high-pressure air at inlet will be used based on the nature of Ash deposit. Pulsation, two side high pressure air improves and helps deep cleaning.
The header assembly precisely moves the nozzle position and ensure that all DPF channels are cleaned based on DPF specific program in controller. The cleaning may be completed in one pass or multiple passes based on amount and properties of soot and ash deposited in DPF. Bottom compartment is with an exhaust system (19) with primary (17) and secondary (18) filters which filters the ash and soot comes out of DPF and pass cleaned air to atmosphere.
The control system (22) will be loaded with programs based on DPF specifications and it controls the header assembly movement. Control system may have provisions to select appropriate programs based on inputs and indicates start and end of cleaning process. Control system may generate reports at the end of end cleaning process.
Air pressure and flow is monitored during all operations with an air pressure sensor (21) and flow meter (20) for safe and reliable operations. Controller takes these inputs and make many decisions in the cleaning process and monitor the process.
The total apparatus is in an enclosure (23) which is also base for mounting all subsystems. This enclosure protects operator from pollutants which may come out during the cleaning process and help the operator to visualize cleaning process through transparent local area.
