SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTENT DISTRIBUTION
FIELD OF INVENTION
[0001] The present invention is directed to a system and a method for content
distribution. More particularly the present invention is directed to a system and a method for content distribution for telecom subscribers directly from the retail outlets.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[0002] Subscribers typically face problems in discovery and delivery of content. The
typical discovery process is via the telecom service provider who will sell these services via
their portals, advertisements, IVR services etc... This method of data distribution may also be
expensive as the subscriber may be dependent on a single service provider, more often,
his/her telecom service provider, for providing access to the content. Other issues including
lack of education and language limitation may further hinder the subscriber from making the
right decision in downloading or not downloading the content targeted and provided to
him/her.
[0003] The content provider may essentially be using the telecom provider to
distribute the content. The content provider may suffer due to lack of efficient payment
mechanism since the cost of content is too low to facilitate credit card or debit card payment.
The telecom service provider enjoying the ability to provide telecom billing may take away
the majority revenue share from the content provider.
[0004] One of the major discovery points is the operator telecom portal. However,
this method of discovery has a problem that the subscriber needs to have a data connection
(2.5/3/4G) or they may need to have a smart phone to be able to download the content. Either
of these restrictions poses a barrier of entry to the user.

[0005] Some earlier methods of content distribution include providing a kiosk where
the subscriber can separately go to and access the content of his/her choice. However, this method of discovery has a limitation that only one person can access the kiosk at a given moment. Also the mechanism of content transfer is complicated in terms of educating users to using a kiosk.
[0006] Thus there is a need for an improved system and method through which digital
content may be distributed to the masses through retail outlets. Here the subscriber is enabled to discover a content of choice and have it delivered to his/her device after directly paying the retail outlet for the content provided.
