Abstract: A system and method for controlling operation a metal-air battery are provided. A system and method for controlling operation a metal-air battery may include controlling a current drawn from the battery; and controlling a temperature of the battery. A system and method may draw a preconfigured amount of power from a metal-air battery, and draw power from a rechargeable device when power required is greater than the preconfigured power.
Claims:1. An electric vehicle comprising:
a metal-air battery providing power to the electric vehicle,
a rechargeable device for providing additional power to the electric vehicle beyond the power provided by the metal-air battery, when needed, and
a controller configured to set the power supplied to the electric vehicle from the metal-air battery according to a profile defining at least one of: an energetic utilization ratio, a power rate and an electrolyte utilization value of the metal-air battery.
2. The electric vehicle of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to adjust automatically the profile according to performance parameters of the electric vehicle.
3. The electric vehicle of claim 1 or 2, wherein the controller is further configured to adjust a current drawn from the metal-air battery and a temperature thereof to reach a specified energetic utilization ratio of the metal-air battery.
4. The electric vehicle of claim 2 or 3, wherein the adjusting is carried out by controlling a temperature and circulation of electrolyte of the metal-air battery.
5. The electric vehicle of claim 4, wherein the adjusting is carried out with respect to an age of the electrolyte.
6. The electric vehicle of claim 5, wherein the controller is further configured to adjust, with respect to the age of the electrolyte, at least one of: an electric current provided by the metal-air battery, a temperature of the metal-air battery, a temperature of the electrolyte and a voltage provided by the metal-air battery.
7. A method of operating an electric vehicle, the method comprising:
providing power to the electric vehicle from a metal-air battery according to a profile defining at least one of: an energetic utilization ratio, a power rate and an electrolyte utilization value of the metal-air battery, and
complementing the provided power, if needed, from a rechargeable device.
8. The method of claim 7, further comprising adjusting the profile according to performance parameters of the electric vehicle
9. The method of claim 8, further comprising adjusting a current drawn from the metal-air battery and a temperature thereof to reach a specified energetic utilization ratio of the metal-air battery.
10. The method of claim 9, wherein the adjusting is carried out by controlling a temperature and circulation of electrolyte of the metal-air battery.
11. The method of claim 10, wherein the adjusting is carried out with respect to an age of the electrolyte.
12. The method of claim 11, further comprising adjusting, with respect to the age of the electrolyte, at least one of: an electric current provided by the metal-air battery, a temperature of the metal-air battery, a temperature of the electrolyte and a voltage provided by the metal-air battery.
13. A method of controlling operation of a metal-air battery, the method comprising:
defining an operation profile comprising at least one of: an energetic utilization ratio, power, an electrolyte utilization value and a corrosion rate, and
operating the metal-air battery according to the defined operation profile.
14. The method of claim 13, further comprising adjusting a current drawn from the metal-air battery and a temperature thereof to reach a specified energetic utilization ratio of the metal-air battery.
15. The method of claim 14, wherein the adjusting is carried out by controlling a temperature and circulation of electrolyte of the metal-air battery.
16. The method of claim 15, wherein the adjusting is carried out with respect to an age of the electrolyte.
17. The method of claim 16, further comprising adjusting, with respect to the age of the electrolyte, at least one of: an electric current provided by the metal-air battery, a temperature of the metal-air battery, a temperature of the electrolyte and a voltage provided by the metal-air battery.
18. A system comprising:
a metal-air battery configured to supply power to an electric vehicle, and
a controller of the metal-air battery configured to define an operation profile comprising at least one of: an energetic utilization ratio, power, an electrolyte utilization value and a corrosion rate, and operate the metal-air battery according to the defined operation profile.
19. The system of claim 18, wherein the controller is further configured to adjust a current drawn from the metal-air battery and a temperature thereof to reach a specified energetic utilization ratio of the metal-air battery.
20. The system of claim 19, wherein the adjusting is carried out by controlling a temperature and circulation of electrolyte of the metal-air battery.
21. The system of claim 20, wherein the adjusting is carried out with respect to an age of the electrolyte.
22. The system of claim 21, wherein the controller is further configured to adjust, with respect to the age of the electrolyte, at least one of: an electric current provided by the metal-air battery, a temperature of the metal-air battery, a temperature of the electrolyte and a voltage provided by the metal-air battery. , Description:SAME AS UPLOADED
