System And Method For Disinfecting Surfaces Of Articles Transported On A Conveyor System

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for disinfecting all the surfaces of articles (101) transported on a conveyor system (102) in a disinfection chamber (100) through ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The disinfection chamber comprises an external disinfectant module (104), an internal disinfectant module (107) and a mobile disinfectant module (108c). The external disinfectant module is a hollow cuboidal or curved structure designed to mechanically couple with one section of a conveyor system. The internal disinfectant module is designed to disinfect the lower surface of the article on the conveyor system. The mobile disinfectant module is designed to disinfect articles not transported as individual entities on a conveyor system. The mechanical design of the system is such that the exterior of the system is not exposed to the UV radiation produced inside the disinfection chamber.
