A system for fault tolerant stream splitting comprising:a primary root splitter to split a data stream transmittedfrom an upstream server into a plurality of leaf splitterstreams;a plurality of leaf splitters to split each of said leaf splitterstreams into a plurality of end user streams, wherein one ormore of said plurality of leaf splitters is a backup rootsplitter;a monitoring subsystem to monitor the status of the primaryroot splitter; andan agent to reconfigure one of said backup root splitters as anew primary root splitter responsive to detecting a problemwith said primary root splitter.
