, Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention discloses the method and system for inventory management for food industry using Internet of Things (IoT). The present invention relates generally to inventory management and, in particular, to food industry.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Warehousing is the act of storing goods that will be sold or distributed later. While a small, home-based business might be warehousing products in a spare room, basement, or garage. Where larger businesses typically own or rent space in a building that is specifically designed for storage.
Warehouse has multiple process, which covers number of important areas from receiving, organization, fulfilment and distribution processes. These are includes receiving of goods, cross-docking of goods, organizing and storing inventory.
To store items/products in shelf is really hectic and time-consuming job. The worker has to find which shelf is empty for items. And then that items are stored in that particular shelf. Generally, worker has to roam here and there to search empty space in shelf. And search for which items should be restock.
In food industry also, same thing is done. But as food is perishable, it can not be stock for long period. So limited food quantity should be stocked. When this stock is empty, it should be re-stock. For this, warehouse team member always keep track for this. Other wise due to no stock it will affect the business.
Currently, there is no such system which can tell team member that particular items should be re-stock.
The present invention solves the above problem with the help of Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of connected devices embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and so on which enable these objects to collect and exchange data.
The concept of IoT has many applications depending on the physical devices that are connected and one of the most remarkable applications of IoT in food industry is inventory management.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the invention is that, the inventory management for food industry using Internet of Things (IoT).
Another object of the invention is that, easy replenishment of food items.
Another object of the invention is that, tracking misplaced items.
Other object of the invention is that, waiting period for replenishment is avoided.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention discloses the system or method for inventory management for food industry using Internet of Things (IoT). Each shelves of warehouse have number of sensors to form mesh arrangement of sensors, placed on bottom of shelves. The mesh arrangement of sensors includes strain sensors, photodetectors, microphones, spillage sensors. The data processing system transforms the signal from each of the smart shelves into a product count value. The method includes displaying, the given product to be pick from each of the smart shelves. The data of products which has been picked from each of the smart shelves is transferred to the server. So, it is easy to know the warehouse team to replenishment of shelves.

Fig 1 shows flowchart of the method and computer program for this invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
The present invention discloses the system and method for inventory management for food industry by using Internet of Things (IoT).
Internet of Things (IoT) has many applications depending on the physical devices that are connected and one of the most remarkable applications of IoT in food industry is inventory management.
A food industry typically stores products in a warehouse before shipping them to customers.
The system and method for inventory management for food industry using Internet of Things (IoT) is comprising of:
Backend server – storing data from shelves of warehouse
Sensors – sense product count from shelves and send data to backend server
The various sensors such as strain sensors, photodetectors, microphones, spillage sensors are arranged at bottom of shelves to form mesh arrangement of sensors.
The system and method for inventory management for food industry using Internet of Things (IoT) can work as following:
Step 1) Assign each and every shelf with unique id number.
Step 2) The number of sensors is installed at the bottom of each shelf.
Step 3) The sensors are arranged in a such way to form mesh arrangement of sensors.
Step 4) When any food item from shelf are picked, the sensor senses it. And transferred that sense data to product count values.
Step 5) The product count values are transferred to the backend server.
Step 6) Warehouse team can come to know which food items are getting less.
Step 7) Warehouse team can replenish the shelf, when shelf is empty.
This is the basic model of inventory management for food industry. And scope of invention is not limited to this only.
The inventory management for food industry using Internet of Things (IoT) has some advantages such as:
Easy Replenishment – As shelves are capable of monitoring data pertaining to the items placed on them, they send real time updates to the warehouse team so as to enable them to restock the food items as and when required.
Tracking misplaced items - These are various instances where items get misplaced, causing a dent to the warehouse bottom line. The invention can help warehouse team to curb the problem of misplaced items by alerting them through notifications and allowing them to look into the matter without causing any damage to the warehouse management.
Now take an example, in warehouse, paneer packets are kept. Within in some period, these paneer packets are empty. The sensors from the shelf where paneer packets are kept, have send alert message to warehouse team member. So, team member can know, paneer packets should be restocked immediately.
Another example, with help of sensors data, team member can predict in which season which food items are demanded most. So, they will arrange as per demand.
