System And Method For Optimizing A Multi Camera Surveillance Network

Abstract: SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OPTIMIZING A MULTI-CAMERA SURVEILLANCE NETWORK ABSTRACT A system and method for optimizing multi-camera surveillance network for indoor and outdoor environments for an area under surveillance by maximizing camera coverage is disclosed. The method (100) includes receiving (102) building plan (206) for indoor environment and location sketch (208) for outdoor environment, obtaining (104) initial set of camera locations for placement of cameras for indoor and outdoor environment based on building plan and location sketch, determining (106) optimal camera locations and camera orientations for maximizing camera coverage based on the initial set of camera locations, so that plurality of cameras (202) can be deployed in the same location with plurality of camera orientations and updating (118) the multi-camera surveillance network with the optimal camera locations and camera orientations. Optimization of multi-camera surveillance network facilitates maximizing the camera coverage of the surveillance area by utilizing minimum number of cameras both in indoor and outdoor surveillance areas.
