, Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention discloses the system and method for overcoming driving phobia by using virtual reality technology. In particular, it is related to transportation field.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A driving phobia, also called vehophobia or a fear of driving, can be severe enough to be considered an intense, persistent fear or phobia. Many people have driving anxiety, which is a form of anxiety that can range in severity. In some cases, the anxiety is constant and the person feels hesitant to drive. In more severe cases, the anxiety is overwhelming and paralyzing to the point that the person completely refuses to drive at all. In the case where driving anxiety is intense and severe enough that a person refuses to drive at all, it becomes driving phobia. A fear of driving may escalate to a phobia during difficult driving situations, such as freeway driving or congested traffic.
The most common treatment for both driving phobia and general driving anxiety is behaviour therapy—specifically, systematic desensitization. This mainly involves exposure therapy and relaxation techniques while driving.
Currently, this is the only most promising treatment for driving phobia.
As technology become more and more advanced, it tries to give solutions to each and every problem. The present invention discloses the system and method for overcoming driving phobia by using virtual reality technology.
The invention application will allow participants to drive on virtual roads and confront their fears, whether they might be driving over bridges, overtaking slow-moving traffic or taking to the motorway or dual-carriageway.
Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds.
Virtual reality is a simulated experience that can be similar to or completely different from the real world. Applications of virtual reality can include entertainment and educational purposes. Other, distinct types of VR style technology include augmented reality and mixed reality.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the invention is, the system and method for overcoming driving phobia by using virtual reality technology.
Another object of the invention is, Virtual reality enabled devices are needed (such as VR headset).
Other object of the invention is, virtual workstation is created.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention discloses the system and method for overcoming driving phobia by using virtual reality technology. The invention application is installed at any computing device such as computer or laptop. The application is designed in a such a way that it creates virtual scene and situation of driving such as virtual roads, driving over bridges, overtaking slow-moving traffic, like that with the help of virtual reality technology. Person having driving phobia wear Virtual reality enabled headset. Person sits in vehicle, and start driving. Virtual reality headset creates simulated environment of driving. Person can experience the virtual driving.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Fig 1 shows flowchart of the method and computer program for this invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention discloses the system and method for overcoming driving phobia by using virtual reality technology.
The present invention system and method for overcoming driving phobia is comprising of components such as;
Any VR enabled device such as VR headset
Any computing device with active internet connection – the overcoming driving phobia application is installed
Wi-Fi modem - for connectivity between any computing device and virtual reality enabled device
The present invention implemented in a combination of both hardware and software. The present invention discloses the system and method for overcoming driving phobia by using virtual reality technology is comprising of;
Step 1) The overcoming driving phobia application is installed at any computing device
Step 2) VR enabled headset is connected with any computing device
Step 3) Person wear VR enabled headset and seat in vehicle
Step 4) Virtual reality headset and virtual reality application create stimulate unpredicted scenarios for driving
Step 5) Person drive in virtual scenario to gain confidence in driving
This is general overview of system. System is not bounded to this only.
Here by using this invention person who has driving phobia can gain confidence for driving.
The invention helps person to drive in unpredicted scenarios such as driving on bridge, overtaking the slow speed vehicle, control on vehicle in traffic jam and many more. Virtual headset and invention application stimulate the virtual road for person to drive. As all the scenario are virtual, there is no risk or incident of accident while driving. It is very safe for person, who has driving phobia.
A driving phobia, also called vehophobia or a fear of driving, can be severe enough to be considered an intense, persistent fear or phobia. Many people have driving anxiety, which is a form of anxiety that can range in severity. In some cases, the anxiety is constant and the person feels hesitant to drive.
The present invention, trying to give solution for person who has driving phobia.
The Virtual Reality Exposure Treatment (VRET) will allow person to drive on virtual roads and confront their fears, whether they might be driving over bridges, overtaking slow-moving traffic or taking to the motorway or dual-carriageway.
A fear of driving, whether it has developed following a road traffic accident or for other reasons, can escalate into a situation where individuals are too scared to drive at all.
The advantages of the invention presented is as follows;
It can be carried out in a safe environment rather than on real roads, which in extreme cases, could put the person at risk through the adoption of defensive driving behaviours, such as braking harder or going slow on motorways, by the phobic subject.
It also helps the person with a phobia to tolerate the level of exposure to the fear as it is tightly controlled.
Take an example of this invention, suppose person in past met with an accident and due to that person has fear of driving. Then with the help of this invention, person drive on virtual road, and face various unpredicted scenarios. But as it is virtual stimulation, the whole scene is under control. So, there is no risk at all to person. So, by driving, the confidence level of person gets increased.
