Abstract: Various aspects of a system and a method to provide recommendation on an electronic device based on emoti onal state detection of a us er, are disclosed herein. In accordance with an embodiment, the syst em includes the electronic device, which is configured to detect a transition in an emot ional state of a user associated with the electronic device from a first emotional state to a second emotional state. A tagged content item associated with t he second emotional state of t he user is retrieved from a network device based on identity informa tion of the user and the detected transition. An application is launched on the electronic device to recommend a product or a service related to the retrieve d tagged content item. The application is launched in response to the det ected transition in the emot ional state of the user and a current location of the electronic device.

Claims

1. A system for providing recomme ndation, said system comprising: one or more circuits in an electronic device (102, 104) configured to: detect a transition in an emotional state (114) of a user (112) associated with said electronic devic e (102, 104) from a first emotional state to a second emotional state; retrieve a tagged content item associated with said second emotional state of said user (112) from a network device based on identity information of said user (112) and said detected transition; and launch an application on said el ectronic device (102, 104) to recommend a product or a service relate d to said retrieved tagged content item, in response to said detected trans ition in said emotional state (114) of said user (112) and a current locati on of said electronic device (102, 104).

2. The system as claimed in claim 1, w herein said first emot ional state and said second emotional state corresponds to one of: neutral, happy, sad, angry, contempt, fear, surprise, confused, and/or tender emotional state.

3. The system as claimed in claim 1, w herein said network device corresponds to one of: a server (106), another electroni c device connected to said electronic device (102, 104) in a wireless netw ork, and/or a cloud based service. 56

The system as claimed in claim 1, wherei n said one or more circuits are further configured to receive sensor data from one or more of: a wearable device (108) associated with said user (112) , an in-built camera of said electronic device (102, 104), a text-based input on said electr onic device (102, 104), and/or a voice- based input on said electronic device (102, 104), for said detection of said transition in said emotional st ate (114) of said user (112).

5. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherei n said one or more circuits are further configured to search said product or said service based on said retrieved tagged content item on said elec tronic device (102, 104).

The system as claimed in claim 1, wherei n said one or more circuits are further configured to dynamically customize a home screen interface of said electronic device (102, 104) based on said detected trans ition in said emotional state (114) of said user (112) and a last tagged content item asso ciated with said second emotional state in said network device.

A system for providing recomme ndation, said system comprising: one or more circuits in an electronic device (102, 104) configured to: detect a transition in an emotional state (114) of a user (112) viewing a content item on said electr onic device (102, 104) from a first emotional state to a se cond emotional state; 57 associate a portion of said cont ent item viewed during said detected transition, with said second emotional state of said user (112); identify a cause of said detected tr ansition to said second emotional state in said portion of said content item associated with said second emotional state; and generate a recommendation for a product or service based on said identified cause in response to said detected transition in said emotional state (114) of said user (112) and a current location of said electronic device (102, 104).

8. The system as claimed in claim 7, wherei n said identified caus e in said portion of said content item corresponds to one or more of: an image frame, an object in said image frame, a context of sa id portion of said content item.

The system as claimed in claim 7, wherei n said one or more circuits are further configured to determine a level of said se cond emotional state of said user (112) during viewing of said cont ent item on said electronic device (102, 104), wherein said portion of said content item is a ssociated with said seco nd emotional state when said determined level is greater than a threshold.

The system as claimed in claim 9, wherei n said one or more circuits are further configured to tag said identif ied cause in said portion of said content item with one or more of: said second emotional st ate, identity information of said user 58 (112), a timestamp of said detected transition, and/or said determined level of said second emotional state.

11. The system as claimed in claim 10, wher ein said one or more circuits are further configured to search a product or a service related to said tagged cause associated with said second emotional state in real-time or near real-time using a pre-specified search engine for said recommendation.

12. The system as claimed in claim 10, wher ein said one or more circuits are further configured to communicate said tagged cause in said portion of said content item to a server (106) or a network device co mmunicatively coupled to said electronic device (102, 104).

The system as claimed in claim 7, wher ein said one or more circuits are further configured to control display of said generated recommendation for said product or said service on said electronic devic e (102, 104) or another electronic device communicatively coupled to said electronic device (102, 104).

14. The system as claimed in claim 7, wherei n said one or more circuits are further configured to communicate a notification to another electronic device to unlock a home screen interface of said other elec tronic device to display said generated recommendation. 59

15. The system as claimed in claim 7, wherei n said one or more circuits are further configured to update said generat ed recommendation based on a machine learning associated with a usage pattern of said generated recommendation.

A method for providing recommendation, said method comprising: detecting, by one or more circuits of an electronic device (102, 104), a transition in an emotional state (114) of a user ( 112) associated with said electronic device (102, 104) from a firs t emotional state to a second emotional state; retrieving, by said one or more circ uits, a tagged content item associated with said second emotional state of said user (112) from a network device based on identity information of said user (112) and said detected transition; and launching, by said one or more circui ts, an application on said electronic device (102, 104) to recommend a product or a service related to said retrieved tagged content item, in response to said detected transition in said emotional state (114) of said user (112) and a curre nt location of said electronic device (102, 104).

17. The method as claimed in claim 16, further comprising searching, by said one or more circuits, said product or said servic e based on said retrieved tagged content item on said electronic device (102, 104). 60

The method as claimed in claim 16, fu rther comprising dynamically customizing, by said one or more circuits, a home scr een interface of said electronic device (102, 104) based on said detec ted transition in said emot ional state (114) of said user (112) and a last tagged content item associated wi th said second emotional state in said network device.

A method for providing recommendation, said method comprising: detecting, by one or more circuits of an electronic device (102, 104), a transition in an emotional st ate (114) of a user (112) viewing a content item on said electronic device (102, 104) from a first emotional state to a second emotional state; associating, by said one or more circ uits, a portion of said content item viewed during said detected transition, with said second emotio nal state of said user (112); identifying, by said one or more ci rcuits, a cause of said detected transition to said second emotional state in said portion of said content item associated with said sec ond emotional state; and generating, by said one or more circuits, a recommendation for a product or service based on said i dentified cause in response to said detected transition in said emotional state (114) of said us er (112) and a current location of said electronic device (102, 104).

BACKGROUND

It is known that emotions
play an important role in
human life, and may result
in certain physiological and behavioral manifest
ations, such as a change in heartbeat or
facial expressions. Although attempts have been made to identify user's emotions,
existing systems may still lack the ability
to connect with a user emotionally or
empathetically. Existing systems that focus
on recommending relevant content to users
may hardly take into account changes in hum
an emotional states suited to practical use
by end consumers. Thus, an advanced system ma
y be required, where
such changes in
human emotional states may be
employed in an intelligent m
anner to provide emotion-
based recommendations with enh
anced practical usability.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The following described im
plementations may be found in the disclosed
system and method to provide recommendation on an electronic device based on
emotional state detection of a
user. Exemplary aspects of t
he disclosure may include an
electronic device, which may detect a trans
ition in an emotional
state of a user
associated with the electronic dev
ice from a first emotional
state to a second emotional
state. A tagged content item a
ssociated with the second emot
ional state of the user may

be retrieved from a network device based on
identity information of the user and the
detected transition. An application may
be launched on the electronic device to
recommend a product or a service related to
the retrieved tagged content item. The
application may be launched in

he first emotional state and the second
emotional state may correspond
to neutral, happy, sad, anger, contempt, fear, surprise,

electronic device connected to the electron
ic device in a wireless home network, and/or

application interface 104c may facilitate in
teraction of the user 112 with the second
electronic device 104, such as a smartpho

transitions in the emotional
states of the user 112 may
be monitored and continuously
tracked by use of the various electronic devices

server 106 may be further configured to
receive information related to detected
transitions in emotional states with timestam
ps from various electronic devices, such as
the first electronic device 102, the second elec
tronic device 104, and the one or more
wearable devices 108. The server 106 may be a cloud based server, a web server, a
database server, a file server, an applicati
on server, or a combination thereof. The

by use of several technolog
ies that are well known to
those skilled in the art.

The one or more wearable devices 108 ma
y be refer to wearable electronics
and/or electronic implants. The one or mo
re wearable devices 108 may comprise

code that may be configured to communicate
sensor data to a connected device, such as

electronic device 104. The one or more wear
able devices 108 may be worn by the user

a smart watch worn by the user 112
may be used to measure calorie intake,
calories burned, sleep patterns, and/or
physiological parameters, such

limited to, a wearable cardiac-event recorder
, a biocompatible sensor (that may be
attached, worn, or implanted into a human
body to predict ovulation cycle, monitor
physiological parameters, such as heart rate

blood pressure),
an implantable radio
frequency device, such as the, “Obamacare
microchip RFID implant”, and/
or other such wearable or
implantable device that may
provide sensor data related to
monitoring of physiological
parameters of the user 112
for tracking of emotional

The communication network 110 may include a medium through which the
first electronic device 102, the second electr
onic device 104, the one or more wearable
devices 108, and the se
rver 106, may communicate with each other. The
communication network 110 may be a wireless
communication network. Examples of
the communication network 110 may include,
but are not limited to, a Wireless Local

Area Network (WLAN), such as a wireless
home network, a cloud network, “All-joyn” or
Internet-of-Things (IoT)
communication framework, a Long Term Evolution (LTE)
network, a plain old telephone service (P
OTS), a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN),
and/or the Internet. Various devices in t

configured to connect to the communication

states 114 refers to emoti
onal states of the one or
more users, such as the user 112, detect
ed by the first electroni

second electronic device 104. The plurality of
emotional states 114, such as “EM1,
EM2, EM3,...,EMn”, may incl
ude neutral, happy, sad, anger,
contempt, fear, surprise,
confused, and/or tender emot
ions. The plurality of em
otional states 114 may be
detected based on one or more images or a
video of the user 112 captured by the
image-capturing units 102a or 104a. In acco
rdance with an embodiment, each of the
one or more users, such as the user 112,
may be associated with
one or more wearable
devices 108 which may be communicatively c
oupled with the first electronic device 102
and/or the second electronic de
vice 104. The sensor data
received from the one or
more wearable devices 108 may be further utilized
to monitor or track
a transition in an
emotional state of the user 112.

We claim:
1. A system for providing recomme
ndation, said system comprising:
one or more circuits in an electronic device (102, 104) configured to:
detect a transition in an emotional
state (114) of a user (112)
associated with said electronic devic
e (102, 104) from a first emotional
state to a second emotional state;
retrieve a tagged content item
associated with said second
emotional state of said
user (112) from a network
device based on identity
information of said user (112)
and said detected transition; and
launch an application on said el
ectronic device (102, 104) to
recommend a product or a service relate
d to said retrieved tagged content
item, in response to said detected trans
ition in said emotional state (114)
of said user (112) and a current locati
on of said electronic device (102,
104).
