Abstract: The present invention relates to a cost-effective and autonomous system for detecting, mitigating and containment of leaked chlorine gas from the any manufacturing or utility facility. The provisions are made to effectively contain the leaked gas as soon as the leakage exceeds a predetermined threshold. Further, the leaked gas is absorbed by a scrubbing solution that can be re-introduced in the system making it both eco-friendly and economically supreme.
1) A system for mitigating leakage of chlorine gas, comprising:
a filling section wherein the chlorine gas is filled at a predetermined suction pressure, and is configured to automatically trigger a first sequence of activities in an event the chlorine gas is leaked beyond a predetermined threshold;
a storage section wherein the filled chlorine gas is stored at the predetermined suction pressure, and is configured to automatically trigger a second sequence of activities in an event the chlorine gas is leaked beyond the predetermined threshold;
a liquefaction section for liquefaction of the chlorine gas at the predetermined suction pressure, and is configured to automatically trigger a third sequence of activities in an event the chlorine gas is leaked beyond the predetermined threshold; and
a scrubbing section connected to each of the filling section, the storage section and the liquefaction section for absorption of the chlorine gas in event of any leakage from either of the sections.
2) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein constant negative pressures are maintained within the filling section, the storage section and the liquefaction section using a plurality of blowers.
3) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the scrubber section is provided with a caustic solution comprising of caustic soda for the absorption of the chlorine gas in event of any leakage from either of the sections.
4) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first sequence of activities are triggered in an event the chlorine gas leakage exceeds 0.5-1ppm.
5) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the filling section, the chlorine storages and the liquefaction section is independently provided with an exhaust blower that is configured to discharge the leaked chlorine gas towards the scrubber section for absorption independently.
6) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the filling section, the chlorine storages and the liquefaction section is further provided with a manometer and a flapper to maintain the predetermined suction pressure.
7) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the filling section, the chlorine storages and the liquefaction section is further provided with a hooter, beacon lights, digital manometer, pressure gauges for automatic safe evacuation and monitoring purposes.
8) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first, the second and the third sequence of activities are triggered in the event chlorine gas leakage exceeds 0.5-1 ppm.
9) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein in the event of chlorine gas leakage, front doors in the filling station, the storage section and the liquefaction section of the storage section are automatically closed.
10) The system as claimed in claim 3, wherein the caustic solution by weight ranging between 5-20% is circulated at rate of 20-60m3/hr or more within the scrubbing section.
11) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the scrubbing section is provided with a heat exchanger that is configured to remove exothermic heat generated during the absorption so as to maintain temperatures between 20ºC-30ºC.
12) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the filling section, the storage section and the liquefaction section are provided with escape doors for easy escape of operators in an event of emergency.
13) The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the filling section, the storage section and the liquefaction section are further provided with a water curtain to act as a secondary containment system.
