Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a system for providing psychiatric care and support that is capable of providing medical support to a patient based upon the mental condition of the patient.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Mental illness is a huge burden on those afflicted with it, as well as their caregivers and represents a major cost to society as a whole. In the last 15 years or so, new antipsychotic drugs and better methods of care in the community have made it possible for many afflicted persons to remain at home or in residential housing rather than hospitals. However, the choice of medication is often based on limited information or general lack of knowledge both in the medical community or of the person in question. This can and does often result in inadequate care and can lead to intolerable side effects, (weight gain, diabetes, drugged feelings, etc.) which in turn can dissuade the patient from taking the drugs at all or to skip doses.
[0003] This often has unfortunate consequences, and motivation to take the drugs is a key issue in the community, which in turn depends on the efficacy of the medication to make the whole mental health system function. In addition, it is often difficult to properly provide care in the community, and in many locales care is sporadic, or even near non-existent. Huge burdens fall upon the caregiver, which is often aging parents, understaffed group homes, or in some cases no one at all.
[0004] US20190290541A1 discloses a method of treating a mental disorder of a patient includes generating, by an implantable stimulator configured to be implanted beneath a skin surface of the patient, stimulation sessions at a duty cycle that is less than 0.05 and applying, by the implantable stimulator in accordance with the duty cycle, the stimulation sessions to a tissue location associated with the mental disorder. The duty cycle is a ratio of T3 to T4. Each stimulation session included in the stimulation sessions has a duration of T3 minutes and occurs at a rate of once every T4 minutes. The implantable stimulator is powered by a primary battery located within the implantable stimulator and having an internal impedance greater than 5 ohms.
[0005] Conventionally, many systems have been mentioned in the prior arts, that is capable of providing consultation to psychiatrist patients but still none of the existing systems are capable of providing video consultation to a patient with an authorized psychiatrist or delivering medicine to said patient over their registered address or providing trained people to control patient behavior, in case the condition of the patient seems to be severe.
[0006] In order to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks, there is a requirement to develop a system that is capable of providing video consultation to a patient with an authorized psychiatrist or delivering medicine to said patient over their registered address or providing trained people to control patient behavior, in case the condition of the patient seems to be severe.

[0018] In any embodiment described herein, the open-ended terms "comprising," "comprises,” and the like (which are synonymous with "including," "having” and "characterized by") may be replaced by the respective partially closed phrases "consisting essentially of," consists essentially of," and the like or the respective closed phrases "consisting of," "consists of, the like.
[0019] As used herein, the singular forms “a,” “an,” and “the” designate both the singular and the plural, unless expressly stated to designate the singular only.
[0020] The present invention relates to a system for providing psychiatric care and support capable of handling patients based upon the consultation provided by a genuine psychiatrist via video consultation.
[0021] Referring to Figure 1, illustrates a block diagram of a system for providing psychiatric care and support.
[0022] This invention is a complete system that provides psychiatric care and psychiatric support, utilizing recent and current technologies to deliver affordable, personalized, secure mental health care. The system primarily assists patients with psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and eating disorders by integrating multiple functions that are customized to meet the care and support needs of this population.
[0023] The system includes a sophisticated user interface (UI) for enabling patients to conduct online consultations with a licensed psychiatrist. The interface will be user-friendly and simple enough for a person with moderate digital skills to access professional treatment appropriately. The disorders that the system attends to are not limited to bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and eating disorders human which would offer a comprehensive environment for several mental health issues and, thus, afford a rich and diverse user experience above-and-beyond some disorders.
[0024] Within the user interface will be a secure communication unit to allow for non-real-time communications through embedded telehealth video-related technology to promote the model of face-to-face talks between psychiatrist and patient. This is critically important, inclusively, to facilitate a personal component of the functional or empirical tele-psychiatry consultation as the psychiatrist can observe the trial demeanor and reactions of the patient contemporaneously which is often extremely important for formulating an accurate diagnosis and possible real or minor treatment adjustments.
[0025] As part of the user interface, the system contains a medication and equipment delivery service ensuring that prescribed medications and required medical equipment are delivered directly to the patient’s chosen address. This service is augmented with a GPS module, allowing the patient to monitor deliveries in real time. This feature provides the patient reassurance that their medications and equipment will arrive when they are supposed to. The GPS functionality allows the patient to track their products as they are travelling to ensure that if there is any hold-up, they will know immediately. Having transparency and efficiency is especially important for patients who depend on having their medications and equipment delivered in order to effectively manage their psychiatric disorders.
[0026] An essential component of the system is a patient safety process with a trained workforce who can be called upon instantly to intervene in the patient and contain his or her actions or behaviors that may pose a threat to their safety. Patient safety becomes a critical mechanism of intervention when a patient receives medication for a psychiatric evaluation or consultation. The system also includes its own panic button within the user interface. Patients may activate the panic button when they need trained personnel to respond with immediate assistance following the patient feeling threatened, or to take control of the situation once the patient can no longer maintain control of their own actions or behaviors. This panic button serves as an extra measure of safety during a time of vulnerability.
[0027] The system also has a function for integrated access to wellness centers that patients can utilize to schedule and attend visits with an in-person therapist at a certified wellness center. The function can be accessed via the user interface, displaying a directory of wellness centers near the patient's location as well as by availability and type of therapy available in the particular center. It ensures the patient's access to a venue for in-person care and mental health support by integrating this functionality into the system. The system is enhanced by a seamless blend of online consultations and multi-therapy sessions while addressing the patient's full range of needs across the continuum of psychiatric care.
[0028] The most important part of the system’s functionality is the work of the personalized care management module focused on documenting patient’s progress and symptom changes, as well as identifying patient’s compliance to the recommended treatment plans. It is integrated with user interface and provides personalized suggestions and assistance according to the need and preferences of the patients. The care management module can also work with wearable gadgets for such parameters as the patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, and other signs of mental state.
[0029] Some of these devices update the patient’s profile within the system and the psychiatrists can then make changes which reflect the latest status of the patient on the system. This approach of care management is useful in preventing care crises and enables the patient to be as much supported as possible. Also, the user interface incorporates a security-protected patient file organizer where one can safely store the patients’ documents, consultation records, and treatment proposals. This virtual vault is locked and can only be opened by the patient and his or her qualified healthcare providers, thus providing privacy and security of the patient’s sensitive information.
[0030] It is different from the traditional system of providing psychiatric services by providing a more holistic range of services for addressing people’s mental health needs. The patient gets other means of mental health support such as guided meditation, CBT modules, and support groups. These resources are obtained through the application which helps the patient to maintain an active approach to his or her mental health. This approach is not only focused on benefitting the patient in terms of their state of mind but also gives the patient more autonomy in his/her psychological rehabilitation, and overall well-being.
[0031] By it and its proper implementation, the best patient care which comprises of proper care in a proper time and space is achieved thus minimizing barriers to access to psychiatrist and improvement of the total well-being. In conclusion, it can be stated that the described system presents a completely new concept in the field of psychiatric care by providing a comprehensive, safe and individual approach to the treatment of mental disorders. With the unique offering of online consultations, medications and pills delivery to the patient’s house, professional intervention services, and a directory of links to important wellness-related resources, the system is a one-stop shop for patients diagnosed with psychiatric disorders.
[0032] Although the field of the invention has been described herein with limited reference to specific embodiments, this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternate embodiments of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention.
