4. DESCRIPTION
Technical Field of the Invention

Present invention relates to a system that facilitates home automation functionality to existing two-way physical switches. More particularly, relates to a method of operating the physical switches in a home automation system in more feasible way.

Background of the Invention

Home automation is building automation for a home which turns ordinary home into a smart home. A home automation system controls lighting, climate, entertainment systems and appliances. Further, home automation includes home security such as access control and alarm systems. The home automation systems typically connect controlled devices to a central hub or "gateway". The home automation system can be controlled through several interfaces such as wall-mounted terminals, tablet or desktop computers, a mobile phone application, or a Web interface, that may also be accessible off-site through Internet.

In a home we generally have a 2-way connection switches, one near the entry door and other near to an easy accessible point. This gives a lot of convenience to the user to turn on the appliance while entering the room and can turn it off from other switch board without the need of walking all the way to the first switch board. With this two-way switch board, people are more habituated to this operation.

While installing a home automation to existing switches and boards, the users are forced to control the switches from a handheld device or by voice commands. And, in doing so the switches and switch boards are disconnected. This handicap the users to their environment accustomed and habituated causes discomfort. In this way the current home automation system is controlling the user and forcing the user to control the switches by using mobile application.

In order to overcome the above mentioned drawbacks, there is a need of develop an intelligent home automation system which do not restrict the user from using two-way switch in addition with a virtual switch provided in the mobile application.

Brief Summary of the Invention

According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, an intelligent home automation system is developed which can be operated through a two-way switch as well as through a virtual switch.

In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, the intelligent system comprises two automation devices, one is arranged in a master switch board and another in a slave switch board.

In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, each automation device comprises of a microcontroller, switch mode power supply (SMPS) and Wi-Fi switch.

In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, the intelligent system also comprises a home automation switch that is proposed to be arranged in any of the switch boards i.e. master switch board and/or slave switch board.

In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, both the automation devices work as complementary units by communicating with each other and update the ON/OFF status of the two-way switch in a computer implemented system.

In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, the two-way switch pins are connected to the microcontroller which monitors the ON/OFF state of the switch and updates the switch condition by using a Wi-Fi chip.

Wherein, a switch mode power supply (SMPS) unit helps in supplying power to the microcontroller and the Wi-Fi switch to monitor and supply the switch ON/OFF state information to the user’s communication device.

Yet another aspect of the present invention, the proposed intelligent system is wire-free, where no wiring is required between both the switch boards. So, it is easy to install and can reduce the hassle of rewiring between the master and slave switch boards.

From a reading of the description above of the preferred embodiment of the present invention, modifications and variations thereto may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, the scope of the present invention is to be limited only by the claims of this invention.

Brief description of the drawings

Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent to
those skilled in the art upon reading the following detailed description of the
preferred embodiments, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein
like reference numerals have been used to designate like elements, and wherein:

In other instances, well known methods, procedures, components, and circuits have not been described in detail as not to unnecessarily obscure aspects of the present invention.

Embodiment of the present inventions are directed to the intelligent home automation system and device wherein the proposed automation device comprises of a microcontroller (104) to monitor the state of the device i.e. ON/OFF condition, a Wi-Fi chip (106) for wireless connection between both the devices, a switch mode power supply (108) to supply power to the microcontroller (104) and the Wi-Fi chip (106), two way switch pins (110) connected to the microcontroller (104) and a home automation switch (112) to control the automation system (100).

The proposed home automation system (100) comprises of two automation devices (102), wherein one is placed in a master switch board and the other device is positioned in a slave switch board.

Referring to the above illustrated diagrams:
FIG. 1 illustrates the block diagram depicting the connections of the intelligent home automation system (100). As shown in FIG. 1, the automation devices (102) are connected to the power supply (108). 2-way switch pins (110) connected to the microcontroller (104) of N-way connect (102). The microcontroller (106) inside the automation device (102) monitors the switch states of the 2 way switches (110) and are in turn connected to the home automation switch (112). Both the automation devices (102) work as a complementary units and are connected to each other through a wi-fi connection provided by the Wi-Fi chip (106) of the automation device (102). The home automation switch (112) can be positioned in any of the two switch boards.

FIG. 2 illustrates the flow diagram of the proposed intelligent home automation system (200). As shown in FIG. 2, the two way switch pins (210) are connected to the automation device (202), wherein the microcontroller (104) inside the automation device (202) monitors the states of the two way switches (210) and gives the output to the home automation switch (212). The home automation switch (212) gets activated if one switch is in UP condition and other is in DOWN condition, thereby activating the intelligent home automation system (200). The final output state (216) gives the information of switch states and if both the two way switches (210) are in the same condition UP/DOWN, the automation switch (212) will be turned off automatically.

FIG. 3 illustrates the flow chart depicting the home automation system (300) related to the switch states of both the devices. As shown in FIG. 3, the working of the home automation system (300) is similar to that explained in FIG. 2, but the output states are represented by the switch states (314).
