WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. A method of validating user provided identity information and transmitting identity verification information to a merchant comprising:
receiving an account identifier from a user in response to the user interacting 5 with a merchant;
authenticating, via a processor, the user based on the account identifier; and
transmitting identity verification information to the merchant.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein said identity verification information
10 transmitted to the merchant includes at least one of: (i) a verification success or failure indicator; (ii) additional authentication information associated with the account identifier; (iii) additional identity verification data.
3. The method of claim I, wherein receiving the account identifier from a user
15 comprises:
based on a request from the merchant to the user for the account identifier, receiving a redirected user input.
4. The method of claim I, wherein authenticating comprises:
20 transmitting the account identifier to a payment card issuer via a payment network; and
receiving identity verification information from the payment card issuer via the payment network.
25 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the transmitted account identifier is used by
the payment card issuer to identify relevant identity verification information.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the received account identifier is captured
from a purchase transaction at a point of sale terminal.
7. The method of claim 6, wherein the received account identifier is received in a
5 ISO 8583 based message.
8. The method of claim 4, wherein the received identity verification information
comprises (i) government identification information associated with the user or (ii) a
level of available identity verification information associated with the user.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the level of available identity verification
information is based on a collection date of the identity verification information
associated with the user.
15 10. An authentication apparatus, comprising;
a processor; and
a storage device in communication with said processor and storing instructions adapted to be executed by said processor to;
receive an account identifier from a user in response to the user
20 interacting with a merchant;
authenticate, via the processor, the user based on the account identifier; and
transmit identity verification information to the merchant.
25 11. The apparatus of claim JO, wherein receiving the account identifier from a user comprises;

based on a request from the merchant to the user for the account identifier, receiving a redirected user input.
12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein authenticating comprises:
5 transmitting the account identifier to a payment card issuer via a payment
network; and
receiving identity verification information from the payment card issuer via the payment network.
10 13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the transmitted account identifier is used by the payment card issuer to identify relevant identity verification information.
14. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the received account identifier is captured
from a purchase transaction at a point of sale terminal.

15. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the received account identifier is received in a ISO 8583 based message.
16. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the received identity verification
20 information comprises (i) government identification information associated with the user or (ii) a level of available identity verification information associated with the user.
17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the level of available identity verification
25 information is based on a collection date of the identity verification information
associated with the user,

18. A computer-readable medium storing instmctions adapted to be executed by a
processor to perform a method of authenticating a user, said method comprising:
receiving an account identifier from a user in response to the user interacting with a merchant;
5 authenticating, via a processor, the user based on the account identifier; and
transmitting identity verification information to the merchant.
19. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the account identifier from a user
comprises;
10 based on a request from the merchant to the user for the account identifier,
receiving a redirected user input.
20. The method of claim 1, wherein authenticating comprises:
transmitting the account identifier to a payment card issuer via a payment 15 network; and
receiving identity verification information from the payment card issuer via the payment network.
21. The method of claim 4, wherein the transmitted account identifier is used by
20 the payment card issuer to identify relevant identity verification information.
