Abstract: One-piece pilfer and leak proof cap with built in plugs" for bottles with ROPP (Roll on Pilfer Proof) necks can be easily manufactured by injection molding, where better dimensional control can be achieved. Being a single piece, it eradicates the chances of wrong assembly and tampering. Further, leak proof capability of the cap increases through rectangular ribs and built in plugs inside the cap. The V-notch shaped ribs on the inner wall of the cap and trapezoidal shaped fracturable bridges facilitates easy and safe removal of cap from the bottle.
Title of Invention: One-piece pilfer and leak proof cap with built in plugs.
Field of Invention: This invention relates to one-piece, plastic pilfer and leak proof cap with built in plug for bottles with ROPP (Roll on Pilfer Proof) necks.
Background:
The existing "Tamper Evident" caps are Aluminum ROPP (Roll On Pilfer Proof) caps. These caps are not really "pilfer proof and also have "leak".
The existing Pilfer Proof caps require a cutter or a knife to unscrew the cap while opening for the first time; it often causes injuries to hand.
The process of rolling forms the threads in these caps. It is rolled against the bottle.
The existing Built in Plugs loses its property and its dimension is altered, after some uses due to wear and tear and does not remain leak proof.
The existing two-piece plastic caps are molded separately and assembled together as one piece, hence these are neither leak proof nor pilfer proof.
Object and summary of the invention:
Object of this invention is to obviate the above drawbacks by providing a "One-piece pilfer and leak proof cap with built in plugs" for bottles. This cap is suitable for both plastic bottles and glass bottles.
To achieve the said objective, this invention provides "One-piece pilfer and leak proof cap with built in plugs" for bottles comprising:
- a seal ring connected to the cap with fracturable bridges,
- trapezoidal shaped ribs used for tearing or breaking of the seal ring from the cap while unscrewing from the bottle,
- V-notch shaped ribs (undercut) on the inner wall of the cap which rests tightly against the underside portion of the projecting bead or shoulder of the bottle,
- rectangular ribs on the inside portion of the cap at the top area, which help to rest the cap on the bottle neck and strengthen the built in plug when it is fully screwed on to the bottle,
- built in plug prevents leakage of product during transport and ensures the air tight fit between the bottle ID and the said Cap,
Brief Description:
The invention will now be described with reference to accompanying drawings:
Fig.l shows the solid side view of "One-piece pilfer & leak proof cap with built in plugs" for bottles with Cap (1) and Tamper Evident Ring (2).
Fig.2 shows the solid side view of the said cap with V-notch shaped ribs (3) and Trapezoidal shaped ribs (4).
Fig.3 shows the said cap with Built in Plug (5), Rectangular Ribs (6) and Thread (7).
Fig.4 shows the said cap with Wall (8).
Detailed Description:
Referring to the drawings, a tamper evident plastic cap (1), which includes a thread (7) having means for engaging on a bottleneck (not shown) and the tamper evident ring (2), slips over the bead of the bottle during capping. During opening of the cap (1) from bottleneck, bead (not shown) on the bottleneck prevents upward movement of the tamper evident ring (2) and this causes the breaking of ring from the cap. The rectangular ribs (6) give strength to the built in plug (5) and help the cap to rest on the bottleneck when it is fully screwed on to the bottle.
The said ring (2) includes a wall (8) connected to the cap by fracturable bridges (4). The shape of the bridges is of trapezoidal cross-section, where in the wall (8) includes a free end comprising a rim adapted to engage the interfering means on a bottle. The said cap being injection molded, better dimensional control can be achieved.
Removal or breakage of fracturable bridges (4) evidences that the bottle has been opened. This tamper-evident design is the most visible attribute, where it can be vital to know that the product has not been altered since it left the manufacturer.
The advantages over the existing products are as follows:-
- Easy removal from the bottle.
- As made from a single piece, there is no chance of wrong assembly of it without tamper evident ring, which is most common problem with 2-piece tamper evident closure.
- As made out of a single piece, during uncapping, there won't be any chance of slippage from bottle.
- It completely prevents the chances of removing the cap without breaking tamper evident seal/ring.
- Being injection molded (cap), we can achieve better dimensional control on the caps.
- As rectangular ribs are provided the built in plug does not loose its shape and its leak proof feature remains intact for longer period.
Although the invention has been described with reference to specific embodiments, this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternate embodiments of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention. It is therefore contemplated that such modifications can be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention as defined
We Claim:
1. One-piece pilfer and leak proof cap with built in plugs comprising: -
- a seal ring connected to the cap with fracturable bridges,
