Specification

DESC:FIELD OF THE INVENTION :

The present invention relates to sampling of fluids or liquids and more particularly in the petroleum, oil and chemical industry from storage devices, tanks, overhead storage tanks or tanks which are mounted and/or installed on vehicles which includes tempos, train carriages and trucks since taking out samples from them is a challenging task and to achieve this object the present invention is device which aids in collection of samples such as petrol, oil, diesels, lubricants, liquid chemicals, from the faucet of the tanks, overhead storage tanks or tanks which are mounted and/or installed on vehicles, the known is customarily known as sampler. The purpose of this device is to take samples from either near the bottom of the tank or from some distance above the bottom of the tank or body in which the liquid or fluid is stored.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION :

Liquids and fluids in different industries are stored in large tanks, vessels, bodies or containers and are carted in tanks mounted on vehicles. In order to ascertain standard and quality and or consistency it is essential to take samples of the stored liquid or fluid at regular intervals or when transporting one place to another. There are two methods of taking samples generally one is by climbing on top of the tank or storage vessel or container and inserting a sampler or then opening the faucet at the bottom end of the tank or storage vessel / container.

The drawback of the first method is that it does not provides the sample of generally only of the top layer or portion of the liquid or fluid in the container or storage tank / vessel, cause when it is inserted from the top, the device or container which is immersed in the stored liquid or fluid get filled with the liquid or fluid in the top layer, thus not providing the true and correct picture regarding the consistency of the liquid or fluid being stored, it also does not provide for any sedimentation or residue which would have settled in the bottom.

The drawing of the sample from the faucet available at the bottom or near the bottom of the tank or storage vessel which when open comes in much force due to the pressure of the liquid or fluid stored in the tank and is collected in a bucket or other vessel closing the gate valve with the liquid or fluid getting out under pressure is very difficult. This method not only causes much loss of the liquid or fluid but it also causes sample collection at time to be dangerous or hazardous to human life and safety, thus generally avoided.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION :

The object of the present invention is to provide a standard method or manner in which the there is a collection of a sample of any liquid or fluid, for any purpose from a storage device, container, vessel or tank from the faucet available at the bottom or near the bottom of the storage device, container, vessel or tank.

It is another object of the present invention is to enable the collection of a sample of any fluid or liquid, for any purpose from a storage device, container, vessel or tank from the faucet available at the bottom or near the bottom of the storage device, container, vessel or tank, without any wastage or loss.

It is another object of the present invention is to enable the collection of a sample of any fluid or liquid, for any purpose from a storage device, container, vessel or tank from the faucet available at the bottom or near the bottom of the storage device, container, vessel or tank in a controlled and safe manner.

It is also another object of the present invention to enable the fluid or liquid to move along a defined controlled path, which can be regulated with valves, and there is no spillage, thus standardising the operation of collecting samples of liquids or fluids from the bottom of the storage container, vessel or tank.

It is also another object of the invention to collect the sample of the liquid or fluid as per the quantity necessary and required for the purpose of measurement, evaluating or sampling into the measuring jar directly without any loss, wastage or spillage of the liquid or fluid and also without causing any harm to the environment.

Description
device for taking liquid or fluid samples from a storage device, container, vessel or tank from a faucet and method of for collecting the same from a faucet.

The invention has hollow tubes and does not posses any cylinder or piston and works on the principal of gravity and pressure which is received from the liquid or fluid stored in the storage device, container, vessel or tank, through the faucet, therefore no additional or external force is required. The invented device or sampler depending on the liquid or fluid to be sampled can be made or casted of any raw material such as iron, steel, metals, brass, copper, plastic, fibers, porcelain, glass etc., so that there is no reaction or permeability when the liquid or fluid is flowing through the sampler. For the present, the sampler is considered to be made up of die cast aluminum, since the same is not permeable and/or has no reaction when it interacts with petroleum, oil or lubricants or the additives contained therein, but it cannot be used for bitumen.

The different embodiments of the sampler consist of a hollow tubular, cylindrical, rectangular, square or any other shaped barrel (2) attached with brass floating nut (1) at its head. The posterior end of the barrel is closed by a pipe (3) extends through it, to enable the liquid or fluid collected in the barrel (2) to flow into the pipe. On the top of the barrel (2) but towards the closed end thereof is an air vent (4). The part of the pipe (3) which is opposite to the side thereof extending from the posterior end of the barrel (2), has a an open / close valve (5). The end of the pipe (3) opposite to the posterior end of barrel (2) is fixed with a connector or elbow joint, however a cubical connector (6) is preferred, which has an opening at its bottom end to which another hollow tubular / cylindrical pipe (7) is attached.

The functionality of the sampler and method for collecting of a sample of liquid or fluid using the same commences with securing the floating nut (1) on the barrel (2) of the sampler to the faucet of the tank. Upon the floating nut (1) being fully secure the air vent (4) is fully closed and so is the open / close valve (5) a measuring jar or container is placed at the open end of the pipe (7). The gate valve controlling the opening and closing of the faucet on the tank is then opened and depending on the quantity required the air vent (4) is opened in order to regulate the flow of air in the barrel (2) and pipe (3). Upon the barrel (2) and pipe (3) are filled with the desired quantity of the liquid or fluid the air vent (4) is then closed and so is the gate valve on the faucet. A measuring jar or container is kept at the open end of the pipe (7), thereafter the open / close valve (5) as well as the air vent (4) are opened to ensure a smooth flow of the liquid / fluid from the barrel (2) and pipe (3) into the measuring jar or container. However, if the quantity of the liquid or fluid is required to be greater than the capacity of barrel (2) then the air vent (4) and open / close valve are kept open for the smooth flow of the liquid or fluid into the measuring jar or collection container. Therefore there is full control upon the flow of the liquid or fluid, lack of wastage and smooth flow thereof directly into the measuring jar or collection container, without any risk.

After sampling is over, if any residual product remains, then the same is drained out from the open end of pipe (7) or the air vent valve (4) is opened and residual liquid or fluid is drained out from there. ,CLAIMS:1.
