Thread Guiding Element For Ring Spinning Machines

Abstract: The present invention relates to Ring spinning machines and, in particular, is concerned with a new and improved spinning Ring and Traveller for textile applications especially for twisting and winding of threads in the Ring spinning and Ring twisting machines. Said thread guiding element for Ring,spinning machines comprises of a spinning Ring (101, 201) and Traveller (111, 211), said Ring consists a flange (102, 202) which is mounted over the web (103,-203) of the Ring (101, 201) and said web is extended from the bottom part of the Ring so called Rim (104, 204), characterized in that, the flange (102, 202) and the Traveller (111, 211) have at least five sides (a, b, c, d, e) and preferably in the shape of polygon. Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention broadly relates to textile machines, especially Ring spinning machines and, in particular, is concerned with a new and improved spinning Ringand Travellerfor textile applications especially for twisting and winding of threads in the Ring spinning and Ring twisting machines.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Normally, Rings used for Ring spinning or Ring twisting processes fall into two categories, namely so-called T-Flangeor Inclined flange Rings. T-flange Rings are either single-sided or two sided and the single sided T-flange Rings are most commonly used in Textile industry.
The spinning Ring so-called T-flange Rings are manufactured with two different profiles called Anti-wedge and Low crown.Anti-wedge Rings and elliptical Travellers belong together and should only be used in combination. Since the space for the yarn passage is limited, this combination can only be used for fine and medium count yarns. In the case of the cropped/low crownRing, the arc was flattened on top compared with the Rings that were customary until then. This resulted in a large space for yarn passage, so that the arc of. theRingTraveller could also be flattened offand the center of gravity lowered. Its advantage over the anti-wedge Ring is that the space for yarn passage is rather larger and all customary Ring Travellers with the exception of the elliptical Traveller can be mounted on it. This is the most widely used Ring in Ring spinning machines.

As is well known, the rapid wear of Rings and Travellers in spinning and twisting machines-is largely due to the high specific pressure of the Traveller on the Ring which is conditioned by the very small contacting surface between these components. The lesser contact area between the Traveller and Rings does not allow dissipation of heat generated during running. The shape of the existing Travellers leads to higher yarn clearance which results in lesser yarn lubrication. The centre of gravity is also higher in the T-flange type of Rings and C shaped Travellers. Apart from all the above mentioned drawbacks, the higher centrifugal. force which results in Traveller wear and increment in other forces over the yarn and Traveller surface which is most disadvantageous.
The spinning Ring so-called inclined or oblique flange spinning Ringis also used in Ring spinning machines.The inclined flange of the spinning Ring is located between a base portion of the spinning Ring bearing upon the spinning Ring frame and the travel or running portion of the spinning Ring. The RingTravellerrevolves or travels around the travel or running portion of the spinning Ring. Furthermore, a rim or bead is provided at the travel portion of the spinning Ring and which secures the position of the Traveller..The dimensions of the base portion and the .travel or running portion are chosen such that the spinning Ring conically tapers from the base portion towards the travel or running portion, so that the inclined flange is similar to or approximates a circular truncated cone.

With known spinning Rings containing an inclined or oblique flange, the inclination of this inclined or oblique flange, and thus the inner travel or running surface of the spinning Ring, amounts to 38 DEG or more with respect to the vertical. These inclined or oblique flange spinning Rings are employed in order to increase the contact surface between the spinning Ring and the Traveller, and by virtue of a reduction of the specific surface pressure or compression there is also reduced the wear of the spinning Rings and at the same time there is increased the movement stability of the Traveller upon the spinning Ring.
U.S. Pat. No. 5,331,797 describes the drawbacks of oblique flange Rings and Travellers. Due to the pronounced inclination of the travel surface there prevails a relatively high load between the spinning Ring and the Traveller at the location of the smallest diameter of the spinning Ring. This localized pronounced loading of the spinning Ring reduces its service life too intensely, especially when there exist high spindle velocities.Also, the conical inner surface of the inclined flange can result in instability of the Traveller. Furthermore, the height of the rim or bead at the travel or running portion of the spinning Ring is chosen to be unnecessarily large. The height in the direction of the inclination of the flange can amount to more than twice the thickness of the rim or bead, resulting in an increase in the dimensions and the mass of the Traveller.
Apart from the above mentioned shapes, Rings with various types of flanges are known in existing art. For example, US Pat. No. 1,604,929 describes a Ring with

square shaped flange fixed over a vertical web and a square shaped Traveller. The square shape of the Traveller without in turned toes led to higher Traveller fly while running at higher speed. The contact area of Traveller held the Ring tightly so that the spinning tension and yarn breakage increased. Also, the yarn touches the surface of the Ring while running which resulted in increasing surface hairiness.
JP Pat. No. 2000129544 describes a Ring with vertical flange to enable to wind a thread with a bobbin in a low spinning tension, twist the thread to have good quality with little thread naps, extend the life of a traveler with decreasing local friction of the Traveller and improve productivity. Ear shaped Travellers are used in vertical flange Rings. These Rings can only be used for manufacturing synthetic and twisting of coarser threads.
Apart from the above mentioned drawbacks, there are many other factors which should be considered essentially while selecting the Rings and Travellers for spinning and twisting yarns in spinning machines. For example, the centrifugal force of the Travellers while running on the Rings should be minimized to avoid the early wear out of the Travellers. The area of contact between Ring and Travellers should be increased to ensure better heat dissipation. The distance between the Ring flange and the top wire section should be optimized to get a minimum centre of gravity. The angle of contact between Ring and Traveller should be uniform to avoid irregular wear out of said Ring and Traveller.

Therefore, with the foregoing in mind, the present invention is directed to provide an improved spinning Ring and RingTraveller for a Ring spinning machine which is not afflicted with the aforementioned shortcomings and drawbacks of the prior art.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION
Theprimary object of the present invention is to provide a combination of aspinning Ringand Travellerfor Ring spinning machines.
The main objective of the present invention is to provide a Spinning Ring with a flange having at least five sides in the shapeof polygon preferably in pentagonal or Hexagonal shape.
More specific object of the present invention aims at the provision of an improved spinning Ring for a Ring spinning machine which possesses an exceptionally great service life and renders possible large spinning velocities, while eliminating the drawbacks of the prior art construction of spinning Rings.
Another and more specific object of the present invention aims at the provision of an improved RingTraveller with increased surface contact area, optimum center of gravity and reduced centrifugal force to improve the Traveller life and to enhance the yarn quality.

Still a further noteworthy object of the present invention is the provision of an improved combination of spinning Ring and Traveller for use with such spinning Ring, wherein there are achieved increased spinning velocities with lesser wear of the Travellers and the spinning Rings and an enhanced quality of the produced yarn and lesser yarn breakage.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The following presents a simplified summary of the invention in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the invention. This summary is not an extensive overview of the present invention, tt is not intended to identify the key/critical elements of the invention or to delineate the scope of the invention. Its sole purpose is to present some concept of the invention in a simplified form as a prelude to a more detailed description of the invention presented later.
According to the main aspect of the present invention, a thread guiding element for Ring spinning machines comprises of a spinning Ring and Traveller, said Ring consists a flange which is mounted over the web of the Ring and said web is extended from the bottom part of the Ring so called Rim wherein the flange and the Traveller have at least five sides and preferably in the shape of polygonpreferably a Pentagon or a Hexagon.
According to another aspect of the present invention, the flangeis in the form of Pentagon which has at least five sides and the dimensions of each side is equal or

unequal. The Travelleris also in the form of Pentagon which has at least five sides and the dimensions of each sides are either equal or unequal. The width of flange in the Ring is either half (2.6 mm), single (3.20 mm) or double (4.0 mm), inner angle of inclination (a) of each sides are in a range between 100° to 140° and preferably 108° and the outer angle of inclination (f3) of each sides are in a range between 40° to 80° and preferably 72°.
According to another aspect of the present invention, said flange is in the form of polygon preferably a Hexagon and the flange has at least six sides and the dimensions of each side are equal or unequal. The flange is either half (2.6 mm), single (3.20 mm) or double (4.0 mm), the width and the height of the flange is depending on the type of flange manufactured between 2.5 to 5.0, the inner angle of inclination of each sides are in a range between 100° to 140° and preferably 120° and the outer angle of inclination of each sides are in a range between 40° to 80° and preferably 60". The Traveller is in the form of Hexagon which has at least six sides and the dimensions of each sides can be either equal or unequal.
According to yet another aspect of the present invention, the flange consists a slot in at least one side of the flange and said slot is in the form of curve or in 'L' shape.

These and other advantages of the present invention will become readily apparent from the following detailed description read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

FIG. 1 illustrates the presently available T-flange spinning Ring of a Ring spinning machine and equipped with a Traveller.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Describing now the drawings, it is to be understood that only enough of the construction of the Ring spinning machine, and specifically the spinning Ring with the associated Traveller have been depicted therein, in order to simplify the

illustration, as needed for those skilled in the art to readily understand the underlying principles and concepts of the present invention.
The following description with reference to the accompanying drawings is provided to assist in a comprehensive understanding of exemplary embodiments of the invention as defined by the claims and their equivalents. _ It includes various specific details to assist in that understanding but these are to be regarded as merely exemplar/Accordingly, those of ordinary skill in the art will recognize that various changes and modifications of the embodiments described herein can be made without departing from the scope and sprit of the invention. In addition, descriptions of well-known functions and constructions are omitted for clarity and conciseness.
Features that are described and/or illustrated with respect to one embodiment may be used in the same way or in a similar way in one or more other embodiments and/or in combination with instead of the features of the other embodiments.
FIG. 1 is a fragmentary front view of a conventional T-flange Ring (11) equipped with the Traveller(12) du Ring the rotational movement of the Traveller(12) upon the spinning Ring (11) known in the existing art. TheTraveller (12) defines bowed intermediate portion (13) and inturnedhorns (14) defining a gap there between is slidably mounted on the spinning Ring (11).The Ring includes an intermediate vertical portion so called flange (15) about which such Traveller (12) is carried.

Said Ring (11) is horizontally mounted on the Ring rail (not shown) of the Ring spinning machines.
FIG. 2 shows aninclined or oblique flange Ring(21), constructed according to the existing art, which is mounted in a Ringrail(not shown) of the Ring spinning machine. The base portion (22) of the spinning-Ring(21) which is connected with the Ringrail extends upwardly at an inclination to form the so-called inclined or oblique flange (23). The inclined flange (23) is having a running portion (24) andinclined to certain angle with respect to the vertical. A rim or bead (25) is located at the top or upper region of the travel or running portion (24) of the spinning Ring (21). The running surface (24) guides a Traveller(26) mounted upon the spinning Ring(21). The. yarn (27) delivered from the drafting zone (not shown) is passed through the Traveller (26) at the contact point (28) and wound on the bobbin (29).
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary front view of a spinning Ring(21) equipped with the Traveller(26) during the rotational movement of the Travellerupon the spinning Ring in the circumferential direction according to the direction indicated by the arrow (31). The yarn(27) travels in the form of a thread balloon is deflected at the top of the Traveller(28) and at that location travels tangentially at the circumference of the spindle. As depicted in FIG. 3, the Traveller(26), during its rotational movement or travel about the spinning Ring(21), assumes an inclined or tilted position (32). This inclined position of the Traveller is dependent upon a

number of factors, such as the spinning velocity, the yarn count, the spindle diameter, the yarn titer, the frictional conditions prevailing between the spinning Ring {21) and the Traveller<26) and so forth.
FIG - 4, 4a, 4band 4c shows a side view of the spinning Ring (101) according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Referring specific to Fig - 4, it shows the flange (102) which is mounted over the web (103) of theRing (101). Said web is extended from the bottom part of the Ring so called Rim (104). Cross section of said flange (102) is in the form of polygon preferably a Pentagon. As shown in Fig - 4a, the flange has at least 5 sides (a, b, c, d,e) and the dimensions (X) of each side shalleither be equal or unequal. The bottom portion (e) of the flange (102) is connected with the web (103). The width (z) of the web (103) is depending on the size of the side (e) and the extended portions (y).
As shown in Fig 4 to 4c, the width (W1) and the height (W2) of the flange is depending on the type of flange manufactured as per the standard. The width (W1) of flange (102) in the Ring (101) can be either half (2.6 mm), single (3.20 mm) or double (4.0 mm). The inner angle of inclination (a) of each side are in a -range between 100° to 140° and preferably 108°. The outer angle of inclination (P) of each side is in a range between 40° to 80° and preferably 72°.The width (X)of each side (a, b, c, d, e) of the flange (102) is at least 1.5 mm and above. The width (W1) and height (W2) of the flange is 2.5 mm and above. The width (Z) of the web (103) is between 0.2 and 0.6 mm.Total height of the Ring (W3) is between 7 and

15 mm. The length of bottom portion (W4) of the rim (104) is between 4.0 and 6.0 mm. The height (W5) of the rim is between 2.0 and 4.0 mm.
Fig - 4c shows space for the yarn passage according to the present invention. The flange (102) consists a slot (105) in at least one side of the flange preferably in the side (b). The slot (105) shall be either in the form of curve or in'L' shape and the depth (R) of said slot shall Redesigned based on the type of yarn produced.
FIG - 5 andSa shows a side view of the spinning Traveller (111) according to the present invention. As shown in Fig - 5, the Traveller (111) is in the form of Pentagon which has at least 5 sides (a\ b\ c', d', e') and the dimensions of each sides shall be either equal or unequal. The thickness (T) of the Travellers varied depending upon the weight of the Traveller. The Traveller has an opening (W3) and plurality of edges (113). The thickness of the edge (113) shall be altered to balance the wear and tear and thereby to increase the Traveller life. The position of the Ring (101) and the Traveller (111) according to the aspect of the present invention is shown in Fig - 5.
FIG - 6, 6a, 6b and 6c shows the side view of the spinning Ring (201) according to another embodiment of the present invention. Fig - 6 shows the flange (202) which is mounted over the web (203) of the Ring (201). Said web is extended from the bottom part of the Ring so called Rim (204). Cross section of said flange (202) is in the form of polygon preferably a Hexagon. As shown in Fig - 6a, the flange has at

least 6 sides (a, b, c, d, e, f) and the dimensions (X) of each side can be either equal or unequal. The bottom portion
