The present invention generally relates to pipe joints & more particularly it relates
to the development threaded pipe joints, which has designed to fix pipe movement
in rotational & axially manner.
BACKGROUND
The joint system employed to connect the two pipes mostly held by coupler, these
coupler interlinked the two pipes through thread mechanism, threaded joints are
very reliable in axial load, but these joint cannot be satisfied the torsion load
condition. The bores well, wherein start/stop operation of the motor transfer torsion
load to the pipe joints, so it is very difficult to employ the thread enable pipe joints.
Many attempts have been made in the past for designing a pipe joint capable to
sustain axial & torsion load condition, but the past designs are failed to meet the
reliable & durable pipe joints.
It is very common practice in pipe joints to provide threads to interlink the pipe &
coupler, wherein grub screw employed in coupler & pipe to cease the rotation with
respect to one another, but it also observed that any type of holes/slots in the
coupler generate stress concentration around it & leads to damage/ distortion of the
coupler, further these process increases number of operation on site. It is also
noticed that another most common practice for pipe locking is to screwing check
nut against the coupler to fix the pipe in its position, but this is not effective over a
period of time due to vibration & jerks, the above condition demands for the
development of new invention, which is capable to overcome from the above
problem.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In accordance with the present invention ‘Threaded Pipe Coupling with Locking
Mechanism’ designed to sustain axial load & its ratchet mechanism along with
check nut, prevents nut to get loosen during rotational jerk or torsion load
condition.
The present invention comprises of: a pipe (10) have threads (11) on outer surface
of its joining length; a coupler (19) having threads (20) & teeth (21) in inner

surface; A sealing ring (22); A nut (12) having threads (13) at inner surface &
ratchet (14) on its outer surface.
According to the invention said teeth (21) are provided at both ends of the coupler
(19) wherein threads (20) are placed in between them. The minimum diameter of
the said teeth (21) is larger than the maximum diameter of the threads (20).
In accordance with present invention said sealing ring (22) placed inside the
coupler (19) in a manner that it lays between both sides of threads (20) and have
provision (23) for resting the pipe (10).
In accordance with the present invention said nut (12) has threads (13) at inner
surface & ratchet (14) on outer surface wherein said ratchet have hump (17) on it.
The nut (12) has at least one steps on its outer surface, typically ratchet (14) on
smaller step (15) extruded up to larger step (16) of the nut. The nut (12) is made
from a polymer material selected from a group consisting of polyethylene,
polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride and polyester.
In joining position pipe completely screwed on coupler (19) & end (24) of the pipe
press against the sealing ring (22) to prevents leakage, whereas smaller step (15) of
the nut get fitted inside the scope (25) of the coupler & pressed against it, further
rotation of the nut (12) increases axial pressure on threads of the pipe (10) &
coupler (19), moreover this axial pressure fix the pipe (10) in its position.
The smaller step (15) get fitted inside the coupler (19) and activate ratchet
mechanism & larger step (16) stay out from scope (25) of the coupler & get held
by wrench during tightening/opening of the nut (12), moreover the larger step has
provision (18) to get hold by wrench.
According to the invention method of assembling & dismantling the present
invention comprising the step of
The nut (12) screw on the threads (11) of the pipe; the pipe (10) along with nut
(12), screw in inner threads (20) of the coupler in a manner that pipe (10)
completely tighten inside the coupler (19), wherein end of the pipe (26) press
against the sealing ring (22) & ensure the leak proof joint between pipe & coupler;
to fix the rotational movement between pipe (10) & coupler (19), nut (12) screwed
up tightly on the pipe against the coupler, which further fix the pipe (10) & held it

tightly in its position, moreover rotational movement of the nut (12) locked by
ratchet (14) & teeth (21). To dismantle the pipe joint, a wrench fix on the nut
wherein said hump (17) squeeze the ratchet (14) & enable the rotation of the nut
for opening.
