DESC:THRESHING DEVICE

TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a harvesting or threshing machine for rice, wheat, cereals or similar crop materials, and more particularly to a threshing device using the power provided by human exertion through a bicycle.

BACKGROUND
[0002] Threshing process involves the separation of grains from chaff and the threshing process conventionally involves man power threshing, resulting to high amounts of grain losses, drudgery, and injury rates. In modern times, industrial-grade automated threshers have been developed that can perform all of these steps quickly and concurrently, but such machines are expensive, and require gas or electricity to run. These machines also require expensive maintenance and replacement parts. The existing human powered machines require a lot of effort, are not portable and lead to farm injuries.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0003] It is the primary object of the present disclosure to provide a threshing device for harvesting grains using the human exertion power through a bicycle.
[0004] It is another object of the present disclosure to provide a method of transporting the device easily by one person over uneven terrain.

SUMMARY
[0005] In an aspect of the present disclosure, a threshing device is disclosed. The threshing device comprises a threshing drum mounted on a fixed support with a wheel/crank shaft. The threshing device further comprises a bottom bracket assembly attached to the fixed support, wherein a coupling means is configured to connect the threshing drum and the bottom bracket assembly. Further, the bottom bracket assembly is configured to couple with a pedal assembly of a bicycle for transferring the torque to the threshing drum. The threshing device further comprises a thick quilt attached on the device. The thick quilt prevents operators clothing from getting entangled in the moving parts of the threshing device. The threshing device further comprises of two handles that are used to lift and transport the device.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0006] The detailed description is described with reference to the accompanying figures.
[0007] Figure 1 illustrates a threshing device in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0008] Figure 2 illustrates the exemplary embodiment of the threshing device from a different direction.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0009] In the present invention, a novel threshing device and a method of operating the same are disclosed. The present invention discloses the threshing device. The device can be transported in the field by lifting it using the handles and pushing it using the wheel like a wheelbarrow. A bicycle can be connected to the threshing device for transferring the power. Pedalling the bicycle rotates a drum fitted with wire loops. The grains are separated when bundles of the crop are held against the rotating drum.

[0010] Referring to figure 1, illustrated is a threshing device in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure. The threshing device (100) comprises at least one wheel (115) and a fixed support attached to the at least one wheel (115), wherein a threshing drum (140) comprising a front wheel rim (141) and a rear wheel rim (142) is mounted on the fixed support. The front wheel rim (141) and the rear wheel rim (142) are preferably connected using a plurality of metal flats (143) with an alternating wire loop placement (144). Further, a bottom bracket assembly (160) is attached to the fixed support and a coupling means configured to connect with the threshing drum (140) and the bottom bracket assembly (160) in order to rotate the threshing drum (140) by transferring a torque from the bottom bracket assembly (160) to the threshing drum (140). In one of the embodiments of the present invention, the bottom bracket assembly (160) is configured to couple with a pedal assembly of a bicycle for transferring the torque to the threshing drum (140).

[0011] In exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the fixed support comprises a first section (110) attached to the at least one wheel (115) and mounted parallel to an axis of the threshing drum (140) and attached to the at least one wheel (115). The fixed support further comprises a second section (165) attached to the first section (110) and mounted perpendicular to the axis of the threshing drum (140) and the first section (110).

[0012] In one of the embodiments of the present invention, the coupling means comprises a first free-wheel (145) coaxially mounted on the rear wheel rim (142) and a chain-wheel (150) attached to the bottom bracket assembly (160), wherein the chain-wheel (150) is coupled with the first free-wheel (145) through a coupling mechanism, preferably, a chain (170). Further, a second free-wheel (155) coaxially attached to the chain-wheel (150), wherein the second free-wheel (155) is configured to couple with a pedal assembly of a bicycle. A user can operate the threshing device (100) by peddling the pedal assembly to transfer the torque to threshing drum (140) via second free-wheel (155), the chain-wheel (150), the chain (170), the second free-wheel (155), the rear wheel rim (142) respectively. In order to increase the speed of rotation (RPM) of the threshing drum (140), the diameter of the second free-wheel (155) is smaller than the diameter of the chain-wheel (150), as shown in the Figure 1.

[0013] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the threshing device (100) comprises a hand rest (120) with at least one handle (130), joined with the fixed support (110) at one end, opposite to a side of the wheel (115). The at least one handle (130) is used to lift the device while transporting. As illustrated in the Figure 2, the threshing device (100) comprises the hand rest (120) with two handles.

[0014] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the threshing device (100) further comprises a thick quilt (180) attached on the hand rest (120) and the second fixed support (110) to cover the threshing drum (140). The thick quilt prevents operators clothing from getting entangled in the moving parts of the threshing device (100).

[0015] The presented threshing device is constructed from materials like standard G. I pipe, MS structure steel components, bicycle parts, and upcycled clothing. The manufacturing and joinery details of the device are designed for ease of assembly using welding and nut and bolts to allow flat packing. Such device construction helps in minimising industrial manufacturing and allows the use of local manufacturing and repair using skillsets and tools available to traditional artisans in villages. The threshing device uses bicycle parts for constructing functional elements, allowing the farmers to use any bicycle that they own as a power generating component. This re-purposing and use of the most ubiquitous mode of rural transport construction as well as power generation provides a compelling case for technology adoption and dissemination. The re-purposed quilts made from saree garments provide an opportunity to these farmers for customising the look of the device with Indian motifs and colours while giving it a familiar and friendly aesthetic. Further, the device allows the operators to alternate between the pedal and hold the plant against the drum, which will enable them to switch positions and rest while continuing the work without stopping the device for long durations.

[0016] Although the present disclosure has been described in the context of certain aspects and embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the present disclosure extends beyond the specific embodiments to alternative embodiments and/or uses of the disclosure and obvious implementations and equivalents thereof. Thus, it is intended that the scope of the present disclosure described herein should not be limited by the disclosed aspects and embodiments above.
