Throttle Valve Offset Design To Control Leak Through Bush In Exhaust Brakes

Abstract: The invention relates to an exhaust brake assembly (1) for controlling the exhaust gas flow of a vehicle. The exhaust brake assembly (1) comprises a tubular exhaust housing (2) for conducting the exhaust gas flow, the exhaust gas flow having a flow direction (F), a baffle (3) pivotally arranged within the exhaust housing (2), and a rotation shaft (4) being rotatable about a rotation axis (RA) and being axially supported in the exhaust housing (2). The baffle (3) is attached to said rotation shaft (4) and is pivotable at least between an open position (OP) and a closed position (CP) by rotating said rotation shaft (4), wherein in the closed position (CP) an annular sealing area (5) between the baffle (3) and the exhaust housing (2) is formed. The formed annular sealing area (5) is offset to the rotation axis (RA). The invention further relates to an internal combustion engine comprising an exhaust system comprising such an exhaust brake assembly (1) and to a commercial vehicle comprising such an internal combustion engine. Claims
1. Exhaust brake assembly (1) for controlling the exhaust gas flow of a vehicle,
comprising a tubular exhaust housing (2) for conducting the exhaust gas flow, the ex¬
haust gas flow having a flow direction (F),
a baffle (3) pivotally arranged within the exhaust housing (2), a rotation shaft (4) being rotatable about a rotation axis (RA) and being axially support¬ed in the exhaust housing (2),
wherein the baffle (3) is attached to said rotation shaft (4) and is pivotable at least between an open position (OP) and a closed position (CP) by rotating said rotation shaft (4), wherein in the closed position (CP) an annular sealing area (5) between the baffle (3) and the exhaust housing (2) is formed,
and wherein said annular sealing area (5) is offset to said rotation axis (RA).
2. Exhaust brake assembly (1) according to claim 1, wherein the annular sealing area (5) is offset to the rotation axis (RA) upstream of the flow direction (F) of the ex¬haust gas flow.
3. Exhaust brake assembly (1) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the rotating shaft (4) does not intersect the annular sealing area (5).
4. Exhaust brake assembly (1) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the exhaust housing (2) comprises a protrusion (17) having a protrusion sealing surface (18), and wherein the baffle (3) adjoins, in the closed position (CP), the protrusion seal-ing surface (18) with a baffle sealing surface (20).

5. Exhaust brake assembly (1) according to claim 4, wherein the protrusion sealing surface (18) is chamfered.
6. Exhaust brake assembly (1) according to claim 4 or 5, wherein the protrusion sealing surface (18) forms a section of a circle (B) about the rotation axis (RA).
7. Exhaust brake assembly (1) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the exhaust housing (2) is substantially cylindrical and has a cylinder axis (CA), and

wherein the rotation axis (RA) of the rotating shaft (4) is perpendicular to said cylinder
axis (CA). y
8. Exhaust brake assembly (1) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the baffle (3) is pivotable at least 80 degrees, preferably at least 90 degrees.
9. Exhaust brake assembly (1) according to any of the preceding claims, comprising a top bush (8) and a bottom bush (9) for axially supporting the rotation shaft (4) in the exhaust housing (2).
