, Description:TECHNICAL FIELD
[001] The embodiments herein relate to a tool and a method for locating and pressing a fastener at a deep hole (elongated hole) of a trim pad for securing the trim pad to a vehicular panel, where the fastener is one of a scrivet and a tree clip.

BACKGROUND
[002] Generally, a trim pad is fastened to a vehicular panel by using one of scrivets and tree clips. Usually, an operator uses hand for manually pressing the scrivet/ tree clip for securing the trim pad to the vehicular panel (body in white (BIW)). For example, in case of a rear quarter trim pad ((QT) (as shown in fig. 1a)), the scrivet/ tree clip (S1) is easily accessible to the operator hand as there is enough space for the operator to locate and press the scrivet/ tree clip (S1) against the rear quarter trim pad (QT) thereby securing the rear quarter trim pad (T) to a rear quarter panel (QP) of vehicle. In another case, a rear bumper trim pad ((BT) (as shown in fig. 1b)) is easily secured to a rear bumper panel, by inserting and pressing the scrivet/ tree clip (S2) against the rear bumper trim pad (BT) by using operator’s hand as there is no hindrance in accessing the scrivet/ tree clip (S2). However, locating and manual pressing of scrivet/ tree clip at a deep hole of the trim pad may not possible as there is not enough space for operator’s hand to insert the scrivet/ tree clip into the deep hole of the trim pad due to structural design of the trim pad and vehicular panel based on design and configuration of the vehicle. Therefore, locating and manual pressing of the scrivet/ tree clip at the deep hole of the trim pad is difficult and is one of the challenges posed to original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s).
[003] Therefore, there exists a need for a tool and a method for locating and pressing a fastener (scrivet/ tree clip) at a deep hole (elongated hole) of a trim pad for securing the trim pad to a vehicular panel, which obviates the aforementioned drawbacks.

The center rotatable member is adapted to move the first movable member and the second movable member with respect to the center rotatable member on rotation of the center rotatable member thereby adjusting a length of the tool (100) in accordance to the depth of the deep hole ((TH) (elongated hole)) defined in the trim pad (T). It is also within the scope of the invention for the guider (106) to include one or more of linear adjustable members, rotatable members, inserts, stationary members, or a combination thereof, for adjusting the length of the tool (100) in accordance to the depth of the deep hole ((TH) (elongated hole)) defined in the trim pad (T).
[0038] In another embodiment, various sizes of guider can be attached to the handle for locating various sizes (diameter) of fasteners (scrivet/ tree clip). In another embodiment, various sizes of removable inserts can be attached at a bottom end of the guider for locating various sizes (diameter) of fasteners (scrivet/ tree clip).
[0039] Fig. 10 depicts a flowchart indicating a method (200) for locating and pressing the fastener ((F1, F2) (scrivet/ tree clip)) at the deep hole ((TH) (elongated hole)) of the trim pad (T) for securing the trim pad (T) to the vehicular panel (P), according to embodiments as disclosed herein. For the purpose of this description and ease of understanding, the method (200) is explained herein below with reference to locating the fastener (F1, F2) at the deep hole ((TH) (elongated hole)) of the trim pad (T) and pressing the fastener (F1, F2) against the trim pad (T) for securing the trim pad (T) with the vehicular panel (P) such as but not limited to the extension wheel housing inner panel of the vehicle. However, it is also within the scope of this invention to practice/implement the entire steps of the method (200) in a same manner or in a different manner or with omission of at least one step to the method (200) or with any addition of at least one step to the method (200) for locating and pressing one of scrivet, tree clip and any other kind of fasteners for securing any other type of trim pad with any other vehicular panels or vehicular structures or any other applications without otherwise deterring the intended function of the method (200) as can be deduced from the description and corresponding drawings. At step (202), the method (200) includes operatively receiving, by a guider (106) of a tool (100), a head (FH) of the fastener (F1, F2) at a bottom end (106BB) of the guider (106).
[0040] At step 204, the method (200) includes, locating the fastener (F1, F2) into an deep hole (TH) defined in the trim pad (T) by inserting the guider (106) into the deep hole (TH) of the trim pad (T).
[0041] At step 206, the method (200) includes holding a handle (102) of the tool (100), and moving a plunger (104) of the tool (100) with respect to the handle (102) in a direction towards the fastener (F1, F2).
[0042] At step 208, the method (200) includes pressing the fastener (F1, F2) by a presser (105) for inserting a body (FB) of the fastener (F1, F2) into a fastener receiving portion (TR, PR) defined in the trim pad (T) and the vehicular panel (P) thereby securing the trim pad (T) with the vehicular panel (P) on movement of the plunger (104) in the direction towards the fastener (F1, F2).
[0043] Further, the method (200) includes defining a plurality of arms (102A) on a top end of a body (102B) of the handle (102); defining a head (104H) at a top end of a body (104B) of the plunger (104); and defining a body (105B) extending from a head (105H) of the presser (105).
[0044] Further, the method (200) includes movably inserting the body (104B) of the plunger (104) into a first receiving portion (102BR) defined in the body (102B) of the handle (102).
[0045] Furthermore, the method (200) includes inserting the body (105B) of the presser (105) into a presser body receiving portion (104BR) defined at a bottom end of the body (104B) of the plunger (104) by receiving and engaging the head (105H) of the presser (105) with a second receiving portion (102BS) defined in the body (102B) of the handle (102).
[0046] The method (200) includes adjusting connecting the guider (106) with the handle (102) by adjustably engaging internal threads (106BT) defined in a body (106B) of the guider (106) with corresponding external threads (102BT) defined on the body (102B) of the handle (102).
[0047] Further, the method (200) includes moving the guider (106) with respect to the handle (102) to adjust the position of the guider (106) with respect to the handle (102) thereby adjusting the overall length of the tool (100) in accordance to the depth of the deep hole (TH) of the trim pad (T).
[0048] The method step (204) of holding the handle (102) of the tool (100), and moving the plunger (104) of the tool (100) with respect to the handle (102) in the direction towards the fastener (F1, F2) includes pushing the plunger (104) with respect the handle (102) thereby pushing the presser (105) in the direction towards the fastener (F1, F2).
[0049] The technical advantages of the tool (100) are as follows. The tool which reduces assembly time of the trim pad with the vehicular panel by easily locating and pressing the fastener at the deep hole (elongated hole) of the trim pad. The tool is user friendly especially for a novice for easily locating the fastener at the deep hole (elongated hole) of the trim pad and pressing the fastener for securing the trim pad to the vehicular panel. The tool can be used for locating and pressing the fastener (scrivet/ tree clip) for securing the trim pad to the vehicular panel at locations where there is no access for operator’s hand. A length of the tool is adjusted by adjusting the position of guider with respect to the handle of the tool in accordance to a depth of the deep hole (elongated hole) of the trim pad. The tool can be used for locating various sizes (diameter) of scrivet/ tree clip by one of attaching various sizes of the guider to the handle and by attaching various sizes of removable inserts at the bottom end of the guider. The tool can be used for locating and pressing the fastener (scrivet/ tree clip) where there is local variations in forms and shapes and sizes of the trim pads and vehicular structures. The tool is a multi-purpose tool which can be used for locating and pressing various types of fasteners.
