Abstract: Earlier the duct assembly which was removing by using handmade tool by which the collar of duct assembly was getting rejected due to damage while removing the alternator from fighter aircraft. Present Method of removing the Alternator cooling duct assembly by using invention i.e., Tool, the process is very simple and effective and prevent the damage of the Duct assembly collar and associated parts while removing the alternator assemblies from fighter aircraft. By adopting this method the rejection of Duct assembly is prevented.
Title of the invention
Tool for removing Alternator Cooling Duct Assembly from fighter aircraft.
Field of invention
This invention is related to the repair and Overhaul of fighter aircraft, especially for a supersonic fighter aircraft. This tool was designed and developed for removal of alternator cooling ducts during Major servicing.
Use of invention
This invention is used to remove the alternator cooling duct assembly easily without damaging the same and associated components.
Prior art
This method is unique. There was no defined procedure previously available for removal of the Alternator cooling duct assembly. The cooling duct is to be separated from the alternator cowling. As the cooling duct coupling area is not easily accessible, after unlocking of the clamp, separation of duct is extremely difficult. A long screw driver is positioned at the flanged portion of duct &the duct is lifted in steps. The removal is tedious.
Draw backs of prior art
In the existing procedure of removal of the Duct assembly, a screw driver was used which resulted in damage of the duct assembly. Also, the process was cumbersome and time consuming.
Comparison between prior art and present invention
The present invention involves use of a tool for removal of the duct which makes the removal process easy and effective, without any damage to the component.
Aim of the invention
Aim of the invention was to develop an effective and efficient methodology to remove alternator cooling duct assembly from aircraft as part of major servicing.
Summary of the present invention
The cooling duct is to be separated from the alternator cowling. As there is no access, after unlocking of the clamp, separation of duct is extremely difficult. To overcome this problem a tool is designed and developed by which alternator cooling duct assembly can be removed easily without damaging the component.

Statement of invention
This invented method is much useful for the removal of the alternator cooling duct assembly without causing damage to the duct.
Detailed description of invention
The alternator duct removal tool consists of five parts 1)A retaining nut for the hinge bolt
2)The Alternator flange supportis a fixed jaw which embraces the alternator cowling flange. The cowling is aprotection for the.alternator which rigidly covers it & is safetied. This portion of the tool is rigid.
3)Extension Bar for leverage during disassembly of the duct assembly.
4)A hinge bolt to fix the supporting jaws.
5)The codling duct support jaw which embraces around the cooling duct which generally gets damaged d uring removal. The two ducts are held together by a clamp and the cooling air leakage is prevented by a seal over the duct groove which is housed on to the alternator cowling. To prevent corrosion in the area Mostinox paste is smeared.
Over a period of time when the alternator is to be removed for servicing/ Snag rectification the ducts have to be separated. The disassembly of the.duct is extremely difficult due to presence of Mostinox paste which would have dried up which requires separate tool for disassembly.
