Abstract: The disclosure provides for a top cover mechanism for manual transmission comprising; a top cover housing (11) and a transmission housing (2) of predetermined shape, a selector shifter shaft (1) assembled on the top cover housing (11), an interlock piece (17) with shift finger (3) and detent assembly mounted on said selector shifter shaft (1), an O-ring (15) mounted inside groove provided on the selector shifter shaft (1), a selection spring (10) mounted on the selector shifter shaft (1) to provide selection force, a movable cup (9) supported on a supporting plate (12) connected to the top cover housing (11) to hold the selector spring (10) at one end, a washer (19) provided on the selector shifter shaft (1) to hold selector spring (10) at the other end,

In a vehicle, driver interacts with manual transaxle through a gearshift lever. The driver interactions are transferred through gearshift lever / linkage to top cover mechanism of transmission. Primary function of top cover mechanism is to further transmit interactions of driver to internal gearshift mechanism of transmission such as selector shifter shaft, forks, shifter sleeve and synchronizers to actually shift or select the particular gear.
