Tow Hook Assembly For Vehicles

Abstract: The present invention relates to tow hook assembly for vehicle connected to front structure of a vehicle to provide an attachment point for a rope or cable, which is having enough strength to withstand the load to tow the vehicle during a breakdown or any predicament and is crushable or collapsible to absorb the energy during frontal impact. The advantage of this tow hook assembly is that it performs towing function satisfactorily during normal operations and does not hamper energy absorption by the front end structure during frontal impact.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification describes the invention.

FIELD OF INVENTION
The invention relates to vehicle assembly and more particularly it relates to tow hook assembly for vehicle connected to front structure of a vehicle and developed to not reduce drastically, the energy absorption by the crumple zone upon a frontal impact.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Motor vehicles have a tow hook assembly in the front structure to provide an attachment point for a rope or cable, which is used to tow the vehicle during a breakdown or any predicament.
The said tow hook assembly should have enough strength so that it can withstand the load for tow application, but at the same time the front end of the motor vehicle is also intended and built in such a way that it should collapse in prescribed manner to absorb energy during frontal impact.
The above requirements are conflicting in nature.
It is desirable to have a tow hook assembly which provides sufficient strength for towing (pulling) but does not hamper energy absorption by the front end structure during frontal impact.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a tow hook assembly for a vehicle.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a method of mounting tow hook assembly for vehicles.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a tow hook assembly for a vehicle which evades sacrificing crumple zone during impact of vehicle.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
Tow hook assembly comprises; first crash piece member (1), second crash piece member(2), both said crash piece attached together to form a crushable box structure assembly(3), tow hook bracket member(4) having hole(6) at the centre attached to the front face of the said crushable box structure assembly(3) by joining it to at least three sides, bush member(5) having head portion(7) at one end connected to the said tow hook bracket member(4) perpendicular to the surface of the said tow hook bracket member, wherein rear portion of said tow hook assembly(3) is connected to the crash plate(8) and front portion is connected to the front crash member(9).
The said bush member (5) is inserted in the said hole of the said tow hook bracket assembly and welded along the circumference of the said hole. The rear side of the said crushable box structure assembly is connected to the crash plate and front portion is connected to the front crash member by conventional joinery means preferably by welding. The said crash plate is connected to the vehicle structure by nut and bolt.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Referring now to the drawings wherein the showings are for the purpose of illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention only, and not for the purpose of limiting the same,
Figure- 1 shows front view the frontal crash assembly
Figure- 2 shows isometric view of the tow hook crushable box structure
assembly

Figure- 3 shows isometric view of the parts of tow hook assembly.
Figure-4 shows isometric view of the parts of tow hook assembly with tow
hook bracket and bush member
Figure-5 shows front view of the tow hook assembly.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
Referring now to the drawings wherein the showings are for the purpose of illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention only, and not for the purpose of limiting the same,
Now referring to figure 1-5, in accordance with this invention, Tow hook assembly comprises; first crash piece member(l), second crash piece member(2), both said crash piece attached together by welding to form a crushable box structure assembly(3), tow hook bracket member(4) having hole(6) at the centre attached to the front face of the said crushable box structure assembly(3) by welding it to at least three sides, bush member(5) with the head portion (7) connected to the said tow hook bracket member(4) perpendicular to the surface of the said tow hook bracket member (4),wherein rear portion of said tow hook assembly (3) is connected to the crash plate (8) and front portion is connected to the front crash member (9).
The said bush member(5) is inserted in the said hole of the said tow hook bracket assembly and connected to it preferably by welding along the circumference of the said bush member.
Said first and second crash piece member having channel shaped cross section attached together by conventional means.

Said tow hook bracket member is mounted on the front face of the said crushable box structure assembly to at least three side of said how hook bracket member.
Said bush member disposed in the hole of said tow hook bracket assembly and attached around the circumference of said bush member.
The rear side of the said crushable box structure assembly is connected to the crash plate and front portion is connected to the front crash member by conventional joinery means preferably by welding.
The said crash plate is connected to the vehicle structure by nut and bolt. Method of tow hook assembly comprises; selecting first crash piece member, selecting second crash piece member, attaching said first crash piece member and second crash piece member together to form a crushable box structure assembly, selecting the tow hook bracket member, selecting the bush member, inserting the said bush member in the hole provided at the centre of the said tow hook bracket member, attaching the said bush member to the said tow hook bracket member by connecting the said bush member around circumference to the said tow hook bracket member, attaching the said tow hook bracket member to the front face of the said crushable box structure assembly, connecting the rear portion of the said crushable box structure assembly to the crash plate and connecting the front portion of the said crushable box structure assembly to the front crash member.
The foregoing description is a specific embodiment of the present invention. It should be appreciated that this embodiment is described for purpose of illustration only, and that numerous alterations and modifications may be practiced by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is intended that all such modifications and alterations be

included insofar as they come within the scope of the invention as claimed or the equivalents thereof.
