A Transmission/Reception Method
Abstract: The objective of the invention is to allow an excellent decoding process to be performed in accordance with a decoding capability on a reception side. The image data of each of a plurality of pictures constituting moving image data are classified into a plurality of layers and the image data of the layers as classified are encoded thereby generating a video stream having the image data of the pictures of the layers as encoded. A container containing this video stream and having a predetermined format is then transmitted. Decoding timing information which has been established such that the higher the layers are the shorter the decoding time intervals of the encoded image data of each picture are is added to the encoded image data of the pictures of the layers.
