Abstract: This invention relates to transmission assembly for reverse gear comprising a reverse gear mounted on each of the input shaft, reverse shaft and counter shaft together with a sleeve on the counter shaft wherein the idler gear is lengthened such that it remains in constant mesh with the counter shaft reverse gear in any direction of power flow.
This invention relates to transmission assembly for reverse gear to eliminate
reverse blockage. It also reduces clashing noise and shift effort during
i engagement.
I PRIOR ART
In the known art, the power transmission in reverse direction takes place in
two ways. Firstly, the reverse gear idler meshes with reverse gear of input
shaft. In the second stage, the reverse gear idler engages with counter shaft
reverse gear resulting in power transfer in reverse direction. However, there is
significant blockage in both the cases which annoys the driver while driving in
reverse gear.
Hence, it is required to develop transmission assembly for reverse gear to
eliminate reverse blockage.
1 OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide transmission assembly
I for reverse gear to eliminate reverse blockage which overcomes disadvantages
I associated with the prior arts.
Another object of the present invention is to provide transmission assembly for
reverse gear to eliminate reverse blockage which provides smooth shifting of
gears in reverse direction.
~ Further object of the present invention is to provide transmission assembly for
I reverse gear to eliminate reverse blockage which provides a driving comfort to
1 the driver.
1 STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided transmission assembly for
reverse gear comprising a reverse gear mounted on each of the input shaft,
reverse shaft and counter shaft together with a sleeve on the counter shaft
wherein the idler gear is lengthened such that it remains in constant mesh
I
with the counter shaft reverse gear in any direction of power flow.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
I Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
I the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
I
drawings of an exemplary embodiment and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: conventional transmission assembly for reverse gear.
I Fig. 2 shows: transmission assembly for reverse gear according to the present
1 invention.
Fig. 3 shows: transmission assembly of the present invention in neutral
position.
Fig. 4 shows: power flow in transmission assembly of the present invention
during reverse gear engagement.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
The present invention is directed to transmission assembly for reverse gear.
For power transmission in reverse direction, provision has been made in the
prior art. For the same, reference may be made to fig. 1, wherein transmission
occurs in reverse direction in two ways. Firstly, the reverse gear idler (G2)
meshes with reverse gear (GI) of input shaft (1). In the second stage, the
reverse gear idler (2) engages with counter shaft (3) reverse gear (G3) resulting
in power transfer in reverse direction. The reverse gear (G3) is provided with a
sleeve on one side having a width (d), which is called ditch width of the counter
shaft.
However, it causes significant blockage which annoys the driver while driving
in reverse gear. Hence, the present invention has been proposed to address the
aforesaid drawback. Said invention is described hereinbelow:
Now, referring to fig. 2, in which the input shaft (1) is mounted with a reverse
gear (2). Similarly, a reverse shaft (4) is mounted with a reverse gear idler (5).
Again, a counter shaft (6) is connected to a reverse gear (7) provided with a
sleeve on one side. Bearings (B) are provided on both sides of the input shaft
and counter shaft.
In this invention, the ditch width (d) of the counter shaft is reduced and the
teeth (3) length of spur gear (7) on the counter shaft is increased. Further, the
sleeve is provided on the other side of the reverse gear on the counter shaft.
Also, the length of the reverse idler gear is increased such that said idler gear
is in constant mesh with said counter shaft reverse gear in any direction of
power flow.
The constant mesh of reverse idler gear with the counter shaft reverse gear
eliminates the reverse blockage. Additionally, a lever synchronizer (L) is
mounted on the input shaft to reduce clashing noise and shift effort during
engagement.
Again, reference may be made to fig. 3, wherein in the neutral position spur
teeth of Reverse Gear Idler which is free to rotate on revere shaft is in constant
mesh with spur teeth of Reverse gear counter shaft fixedly provided on counter
shaft. Further, reference may be made to fig. 4, in which with the help of
~ shifting mechanism reverse idler gear which is in constant mesh with reverse
I gear counter shaft engages with input reverse gear. Thus power is transmitted
to the differentials via countershaft.
Different components of transmission assembly are listed hereinbelow:-
1. Counter shaft
2. 1st Gear, Counter shaft
3. Reverse Gear, Counter shaft.
4. 2nd Gear, Counter shaft.
5. Reverse shaft
6. Reverse Gear idler on Rev. shaft
7. Input shaft
8. Rev Gear, input shaft
9. 1st Gear, input shaft.
10. 2nd Gear, Input shaft.
11. Lever Synchro, input shaft.
I Advantageous features
- Elimination of reverse blockage of gears.
- Smooth driving experience.
- Reduction in clashing noise and shift effort during engagement.
- Lower shaft impulse.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
1 the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims: -
