Abstract: This invention relates to a fixture and more particularly to a fixture to hold a turning casting job in turning machine and supporting the length of the casting thereof while the casting job is being turned to a predetermined shape and size. It is an object of the present invention to provide a fixture for holding a casting and supporting the length thereof to maintain the precise dimensional configurations. A more specific object of this invention is the provision of a new and improved fixture for holding of casting to be aligned with center of rod.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
5
This invention relates to fixtures for turning machines. More specifically, it
relates to a fixture, which may be used to hold and align rod casting. Turning
fixture used to hold the bar casting in a manner that all geometrical parameters
10 and dimensions can be maintained.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
15 This invention pertains to fixtures for holding the rod casting on turning
machine, and more particularly to a turning fixture adapted to support work to be
machined and locate it relative to the turning fixture central axis.
An object of this invention is the provision of a new and improved turning
fixture for turning machine which is rigid, rugged, compact and capable of high
20 precision holding of rod casting. This fixture helps to minimize the setup time and
maximize the productivity.
By use of conventional methods of manufacturing, critical geometrical
parameters could not be maintained. After turning operation of the rod and
grinding of the pad face, parallelism within required tolerance could not be
25 achieved. Hence, a new fixture was designed that could align the center axis of
rod parallel to the grinding face of pad after turning operation.

length of the casting thereof while the casting is being machined to a
predetermined shape and size.
In accordance with second aspect of present invention is to provide a
fixture 5 for holding a rod casting for accurate alignment with the center of fixture.
In accordance with another aspect of present invention is to provide a
fixture for rigid clamping of rod casting.
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention of fixture is to
provide the lighter fixture for turning machine.
10 In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a
fixture that can be properly and effectively utilized to turning the operation by a
lesser skilled individual.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Referring to fig. 1, 2 & 3 present invention is a turning fixture 7 used to
hold 5 and position the rod casting 6 and adapted for use on turning machine. The
turning fixture 7 is designed to hold the job 6 within dimensional tolerance with
respect to grinding face of pad.
Fixture 7 is used for holding the job 6 and allows for turning operation on
10 the two opposite diameters. Fixture 7 is having a mandrel 1 with substantially flat
surface having same dimensions as that of pad. Clamp plate 2 made of hard
steel is used to give the clamping force and restrict the movement of the job 6
during turning operation.
Allen screw 4, Clamp plate 2 and washer 5 keeps the casting 6 in position.
15 The position of casting 6 is fixed such that parallelism of 0.050 mm could be
achieved between milling face of the pad and center axis of the rod 6.
Two position pins 3 are located at 10.00 mm distance from the hole 8
center and aligned with hole 8 center axis. These position pins 3 are provided for
20 proper butting of the hollow slot in the casting 6 pad.
Mandrel 1 is used to position the rotating job 6 such that center axis of
turning fixture 7 and grinding face of casting 6 is positioned within 0.020 mm.
Allen screw 4 and washer 5 is securely held into position by a threaded hole 8 to
provide accurate height position of grinding face as per drawing.
WE CLAIMS:-
Accordingly, the description of the present invention is to be considered as illustrative only and is for the purpose of teaching those skilled in the art of the best mode of carrying out the invention. The details may be varied substantially without departing from the spirit of the invention, and exclusive use of all modifications which are within the scope of the appended claims is reserved. We Claim
1. A Turning fixture for holding rod casting and supporting the length of casting adapted to be positioned on turning machine. The fixture comprising:
- Mandrel adapted to be coupled to the clamp plate and provide supporting surface to the grinding face of the casting.
- Allen screw and washer are used for positioning the clamp. The casting job is affixed securely in position due to pressure from clamp plate and Allen screw.
- Position pins play a very important role in the fixture. It holds the casting slot into position and restricts movement in horizontal direction.
2. The turning fixture for holding casting job of claim 1 wherein, top and bottom surface of the mandrel plate are substantially parallel.
3. The turning fixture for holding casting job of claim 1 wherein, bottom surface of clamp plate is adapted to positioned on the casting pad.
4. The turning fixture for holding casting job of claim 1wherein, position pins are located at precise distance from threaded hole on mandrel for proper butting.
5. The turning fixture for holding casting job of claim 1wherein, the center axis of turning fixture is used as a reference for maintaining geometrical parameters of the job. ,TagSPECI:As per Annexure-II
