Ultrasonic Blind Walking Stick

Abstract: Blind stick is an innovative stick designed for visually disabled people for improved navigation. We here propose an advanced blind stick that allows visually challenged people to navigate with ease using advanced technology. The blind stick is integrated with ultrasonic sensor along with light and water sensing. Our proposed project first uses ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles", ahead using ultrasonic waves. On sensing obstacles the sensor passes this data to-the microcontroller. The microcontroller then processes this data and calculates if the obstacle is close enough. If the obstacle is not that close the circuit does, nothing. If the obstacle is close the microcontroller sends a signal to sound a voice playback. GPS information are passed to webserver via Wi-Fi module. Thus this system allows for obstacle detection as well as finding stick if misplaced by visually disabled people.

TECHNICAL FIELD
Our innovation involves ultrasonic sensors to find any obstacles in front of the blind. If any obstacle is detected, voice messages alerts the blind and the location of blind people can be known by passing the information into cloud using loT.
BACKGROUND
More than 161 million people worldwide are visually impaired. Among them, 124 million have low vision and 37 million are blind. Another 153 million people suffer from visual impairment due to uncorrected refractive errors such as near-sightedness, far¬sightedness or astigmatism. Visually defective people find difficulties while detecting obstacles in front *of them during walking on the road, which makes it dangerous. It is known that the blind carry a stick with them whenever they need the support. Even they carry a stick with them there is no guarantee that they are safe and secured in reaching their required places. Even if there may be an obstacle in their path but it may not noticed by the person with the help of the normal hand stick. Due to this the blind may be injured if the obstacle is dangerous. To avoid this problem, a smart stick comes as a proposed solution. Here we are using ultrasonic sensors to find any obstacles in front of the blind. If any obstacle is detected, voice messages alerts the blind. Thjs system uses Arduino Uno and GPS to track the blind. The smart stick is of low cost, gives fast response, and uses low power and weights very light. The entire controlling unit is fixed to the hand stick. ,If any obstacle comes in front of blind person, they can easily get to know about the obstacle through the audio generated by the voice module and the location of blind people can be known by passing the information into cloud using IoT.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present disclosure is to provide ultrasonic sensor to detect and
indicate the objects in the pathway.
An object of the present disclosure is to provide moisture sensor to indicate water in
the pathway of the blind people/stick.
An object of the present disclosure is to provide light sensor to detect the brightness of
the surroundings.
An object of the present disclosure is to provide location of the stick through GPS and
Notify the location.
DESCRIPTION
In our proposed system, the above mentioned cases are taken into consideration and implementation is provided by adding ultrasonic sensors and soil moisture sensor. One ultrasonic sensor is used to find the obstacle in front of the stick and another one is placed below the stick for stair cases. Moreover, moisture sensor is placed at bottom of the stick for avoiding slippery nature. The stick has capacity of finding all obstacles in the range 1 meter and gives a suitable respect voice message permit blind to move twice his normal speed. The system makes use of GPS and WIFI modules to find the location. The main objective of this project is to reduce the cost and to provide a better solution for the visually impaired people and help the blind to move safely to their destination.

INNOVATIVE FEATURES
• Location of the stick can be known.
• Stick is connected to mobile phone through Wi-Fi module.
• Detection of the brightness level of the surroundings.
• To detect the moisture level in the path way.
• All the sensors and notification can be monitored through mobile phone.
