Use Of Off Gases Rich In Carbon Monoxide As Feedstocks In Steam Reformers

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for the material use of an off-gas (1) which is rich in carbon monoxide and contains hydrocarbons as well as hydrogenatable sulphur compounds, wherein a sulphur-free reformer feed (14) is formed using the off-gas (1) and is subsequently converted by steam reforming (D) into a hydrogen-containing synthesis gas (16). According to the invention, the offgas (1) which is rich in carbon monoxide and contains hydrocarbons as well as hydrogenatable sulphur compounds is heated (E1) and subjected to hydrolysis (R1) at a temperature between 150 and 250°C, preferably between 150 and 190°C, in order to convert the hydrogenatable sulphur compounds with catalytic support to form hydrogen sulphide and to obtain an offgas (4) which is free of hydrogenatable sulphur compounds and which is then desulphurised over a fixed bed (Z1) containing zinc oxide.
