Abstract: A utility box for a two wheeled vehicle disposed above the engine is provided with a integrated rib on the top contour of the said utility box; at least one vent hole to allow hot gases to escape; at least one lug to hang articles; and a holder with cover.
Utility Box
Field of the Invention:
The present invention relates to "Utility Box" and more particularly to utility box for a two wheeler.
Background of the Invention:
Generally a two wheeler is used for personal transportation and apart from it, it is also used for carrying light luggages like hand gloves, helmets, protective clothing, sunglasses, small books, vehicle related documents etc.
Typically a utility box is situated immediately beneath the seat assembly and above the engine. Conventionally in scooter type motorcycle engine is situated at the rear side of the vehicle, with one end of the said engine assembled to the vehicle frame along with toggle link and another end is assembled with vehicle frame at rear portion along with shock absorber. The said utility box is placed over the frame and above the engine by means of fasteners. Utility box is covered with seat assembly and is generally provided with few drain holes on its bottom surface to remove unwanted material from it. Since the said utility box is located above the engine and tightly secured with seat assembly, the hot gas which comes from the engine during vehicle running condition will enter in to the utility box through the said drain holes and gets trapped inside it. The hot gases trapped inside the utility box will potentially damage the belongings because of its hotness. The hot gases from the engine, surrounds the utility box and the air inside utility box gets heated up, which too causes damage to articles inside the utility box.
Even for a motorcycle where utility box is located above the engine, same problem occurs.
Therefore it is an object of the present invention to overcome the above problems and provide an improved airflow arrangement for utility box.
Summary of the Invention:
The present invention has been devised in view of the above difficulties and it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide improved airflow arrangement for utility box.
Another object of the present invention is to provide ventilation for hot gas entry in to utility box.
Another object of the present invention is to provide protection to the articles stored in the utility box from the hot gases inside utility box.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide continuous ventilation for the hot gases inside utility box.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a document holder inside the utility box.
Further object of the present invention is to provide arrangement inside the utility box whereby a music system or like systems can be hanged.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an air tight utility box.
Further object of the present invention is to provide a cost effective airflow arrangement.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
Brief Description of the Drawings:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
FIG. 1 is a left side view of a two wheeled motor vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 2 shows the utility box with the seat open according to one embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 3 shows the utility box according to the present invention.
Detail Description of the Drawings:
The present invention relates to airflow arrangement inside the utility box, which is provided below the seat and above the engine. The present invention is applicable to both motorcycle and scooter type motorcycle where utility box is located above engine. For the purpose of illustration, it will be explained with a scooter type motorcycle. A reference number 1 in Fig.1 denotes a front wheel, 2 denotes a front fork, 3 denotes a front fender, 4 denotes a front cover, 5 denotes a leg shield made of resin or metal, 6 denotes a handle bar cover, 7 denotes a headlight, 8 denotes a handle bar ,17 denotes a rear fender and 18 denotes tail lamp.
The center of the body forms a low floor board 9 for functioning as a part for putting feet and a under cowl 10 which is located below the rider's seat and covers at least a part of the engine, The under cowl is made up of metal or resin. The under cowl is hinged to the seat 11. A utility box 12 opens from the rear end to hinged portion. The utility box 12 is provided under the seat extending longitudinally of a vehicle body and the inside of the utility box has a large capacity so that a large article can be housed. A main frame 14 extended along the center of the body before and behind and made of a metallic pipe and is provided under the floor board 9. A swing type power unit 13 is coupled to the rear end of the main frame 14.
A rear wheel 15 is supported on one side of the rear end of the swing type power unit 13. The swing type power unit 13 is suspended in the rear of a body frame.
The side covers 16 both on left and right sides, covers the utility box 12 and other parts of the vehicle, thereby providing a good appearance to the vehicle.
The utility box in the present invention extends longitudinally of a vehicle body and is disposed above the engine and a seat 10 is disposed on the said utility box 12 (shown in figure 2). The said utility box 12 is preferably hinged 301 ( shown in figure 3) to the front end tip of the rider's seat 10, thereby allowing the utility box 12 to be open and closed from the rear side of the said utility box 12. Two mounting boss are provided at the front end tip of the utility box where it is hinged to the rider's seat. Referring to figure 3, in the said utility box 12 on its rear end top contour at least one vent hole 302 is provided on the top most corners of the top contour 303 of the said utility box.
The utility box 12 is substantially of a rectangular shape. The at least one vent hole on the top contour of the said utility box allows the hot gases inside the utility box to escape. Since the utility box is located above the engine, the hot gases from the engine enter the utility box through the drain holes present in the bottom surface of the said utility box. The hot gases which enters the utility box through the drain holes generally gets trapped inside the utility box since there is no outlet, thereby providing vent holes in the utility box allows the hot gases to escape the from utility box.
The top contour 303 of the said utility box is provided with an integrated rib. The cross section of the integrated rib is substantially of inverted U in shape. When the flat seat base comes and sits over the rib, it takes the shape of the rib thereby making the utility box compartment air tight.
The rear side of utility box is provided with a document holder. The said document holder further is provided with a cover with a snap fit provision. On the rear side internal space of the utility box, two lugs are provided, which can be used for hanging a music system or a battery box or any article.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
We claim:
1. A utility box for a two wheeled vehicle disposed above the engine comprises of:
integrated rib on the top contour of the said utility box; at least one vent hole to allow hot gases to escape; at least one lug to hang articles; and a holder with cover.
