Abstract: A two wheeler is provided with a utility box at a location between the handle bar and seat. The said utility box is mounted over a single main tube and is preferable of resin material. This arrangement makes it possible to give a fuel tank look to a utility box.
Utility Box for a two- wheeler
Field of the Invention:
The present invention relates to "Utility Box for a two wheeler" and more particularly an utility box for a motorcycle which is capable of supporting load.
Background of the Invention:
Generally a two wheeler is used for personal transportation and apart from it, it is also used for carrying light luggages like hand gloves, helmets, protective clothing, sunglasses, small books, vehicle related documents etc. However, a conventional motorcycle is not provided with any specific equipment for accommodating the helmet or such accessories, in fact a very small storage space is provided normally below the seat, which can't carry all the accessories. With motorcycle having fuel tank between seat and handle bar and engine mounted at the lower portion and air filter, battery box etc provided behind engine, it is difficult to design the lower portion of the seat to have a wide lateral width and space, thereby it becomes difficult to ensure a space for accommodating all such accessories at one place.
In a certain conventional technique, a box for accommodating a helmet is provided between a head tube and a seat by downwardly bending a body frame such as scooters with low floor board. However, the downward bending of the body frame creates problems with respect to the rigidity of the body frame.
In another known technique a storage box is disposed above the engine in the space between the two biforked main frame element extending rearwardly and downwardly from head pipe. However, the shape and size of the storage box is limited and restricted to the space between the biforked main frame elements.
Therefore the object of this invention is to substantially overcome the restriction and limitations existing in the conventional techniques.
Summary of the Invention:
The present invention has been devised in view of the above difficulties and it is therefore an object of the present invention to a storage space between the handle bar and seat.
Another object of the present invention is to locate the utility box on the single main frame element.
Another object of the present invention is to locate utility box between the head pipe and seat, which is capable of bearing the load independently of the frame.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a substantially large utility box for keeping accessories.
Yet another object of the present invention is to locate the utility box without changing the conventional appearance for the motorcycle.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
Brief Description of the Drawings:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
FIG. 1 is a side view of a two wheeler according to this invention
FIG. 2 shows top view of a two wheeler according to the present invention.
FIG. 3 shows the utility box according to the present invention.
FIG. 4 shows the cross section of the utility box mounted to the frame of vehicle according to the present invention.
Detailed Description of the Drawings:
It is further to be noted that the present invention is not limited to the described embodiment and many other changes and modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
Referring to figure 1 showing a side view of a two wheeler according to this invention, the two wheeler comprises of a frame, front fork 101 attached to a pivot tube 102 of the vehicle frame, a front wheel 103 attached to these front forks 101, a handle bar 104 connected to the front forks 101, a seat 105 attached to the upper rear portion of the vehicle frame, an engine unit 106 attached to the lower front section of the vehicle frame, a swing arm attached to a lower rear section of the vehicle frame, suspended by a rear shock absorber(s) 107 from the vehicle frame and a rear wheel 108 attached to a rear end of swing arm. The intake system of the engine comprises of a fuel air metering device such as a carburettor, intake duct and an air cleaner. The exhaust system of the engine comprises of exhaust pipe and a muffler. The two wheeler is also provided with a side cover for covering a side section of the vehicle frame, a seat cover for covering a rear section of the vehicle frame below the seat, a front fender for covering an upper part of the front wheel, and a rear fender for covering an upper part of the rear wheel.
The body frame of the two wheeler includes a head pipe/ steering pivot/pivot tube 102 at the front end of the body frame. From the top portion of the head pipe one main tube 109 extends rearwardly downwards and then obliquely upwards.
From the rear mid portion of the main tube 109, a pair of upper tubes 110 extends backward and upward towards the rear side of the upper tubes with respect to the horizontal direction. The said main tube 109 extends further towards the rear side of the said upper tubes 110. Further a lower tube 111 extending vertically downwards from the rear side of the said main tube 109 is provided with engine mounting brackets to mount engine 106. In the vicinity of the engine 106, other elements of the two wheeler is provided like air cleaner case, carburettor or like etc.
A space is created or defined, by the curvy main frame 109 structure which extends from the head pipe 102. The angle at which the said main tube 109 extends rearwardly downwards and then obliquely upwards can be optimally determined as a matter of design. Since a considerable space is created at that particular location, a utility box 112 is disposed in that location.
The said utility box 112 is located between handle bar 104 and seat 105, over the single said main tube 109. Referring to figure 4, a groove 401 is provided on the bottom surface of the said utility box 112 to locate it over the said main tube 109. At least four taps 402 are provided on bottom surface two each on side of the groove. A pair of brackets is welded on the single main tube 109 and a pair of locating holes is provided on the utility box bottom portion tap to clamp it onto the brackets rigidly.
Figure 2 refers to the top view of the said utility box 112 mounted on to the said single main tube.
Referring to figure 3 (a,b,c) the said utility box 112 is divided into two halves, where the ratio of top half to bottom half is 1:4. The said top half will be used as lid 112( a) and the said bottom half as a fixing and storing means. The shape of the said utility box 112 will match with a conventional fuel tank in transverse direction laterally there by mimicking the looks of conventional motorcycle.
The said utility box 112 is made preferably of resin material. Figure 3 shows the top view of the said utility box. Figure 3 b is the side views of the said utility box. Figure 3 c shows the rear side of the said utility box. The said utility box is use to store articles which a rider would like to carry with him while driving the vehicle.
Even though the characteristics and advantages of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, those skilled in the art should understand that the disclosure is illustrative only, and they could make various design changes, permutations and adjustments herein, especially in matters of shape, size, arrangement and number of projections and the corresponding slots, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention in its broadest from.
We Claim:
1. A utility box for a two wheeler comprising:
a head pipe;
a single main tube extending rearwardly downwards and then obliquely
upwards from the head pipe;
a pair of upper tubes extending backwards and upwards from the rear halfway
portion of the main tube; and
a utility box disposed over the single main tube;
2. The utility box as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said utility box is preferably of resin material.
3. The utility box as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said utility box is preferably of metal material.
