Utility Compartment for Motor Cycle

Field Of Invention

The present invention relates to "Utility compartment for Motorcycle" and more particularly for a two-wheeler.

Background of the invention:

Typical present day scooter type motorcycle having step thru space is provided with an open ended or closed type utility compartment (glove box) on the front rear panel below the handle bar. However in the case of scooter having a shorter wheel base providing an utility compartment, on the front rear panel will further reduce the available leg space for the rider when he is seated on the vehicle. This causes vehicle handling/vehicle maneuverability problem while riding. Further if the seat in such scooter is a fixed part of the vehicle, which cannot be opened or closed, the space available below the seat cannot be utilized to accommodate a utility compartment.

Hence the object of the present invention is to provide an alternate location for accommodating the utility compartment without sacrificing the required step thru space. Another object of the present invention is to provide a utility compartment on a scooter type vehicle without having a provision to open the seat so as to match with overall vehicle appearance. Yet another objective of the present invention is to provide a utility compartment.

Summary of Invention:.

A rear utility compartment for a motorcycle disposed in the continuous recess formed by rear side panels and tail light of the vehicle, the said rear utility compartment being arranged in the rear portion of the vehicle body of the motorcycle above the rear wheel cover and in amidst of rear side panels and taillight. Utility compartment is to facilitate the rider from the discomfort of opening he seat while accessing the utility box.

Brief description of Drawings:

Figure 1 is the left side view of motorcycle as per the present invention. Figure 2 is the perspective view of the Utility Compartment.

Detail description of the Invention:

Figure 1 and Figure 2 are views illustrating a utility compartment of a motorcycle having certain features, aspects and advantages of an embodiment of the invention. For convenience, as used herein, the terms front, rear, left and right refer to front, rear, left and right directions from the perspective of a rider seated normally on a seat of the motorcycle. Furthermore, certain features may be described with reference to a vertical plane passing lengthwise through a center of the motorcycle. The term lateral refers to a direction perpendicular to the central, vertical plane.

As present invention closely pertain to a motorcycle, therefore the scooter type motorcycle is described for coherent extrapolation of the invention and its operative and constructive potential. A scooter as is generally understood is typically a two wheeler vehicle with a front free rolling, steer able wheel and a rear free rolling, non-steer able wheel connected to each other by the step thru space allowing the rider to keep the feet over the step thru space, the vehicle is provided with an open ended or closed type utility compartment (glove box) on the front rear panel below the handle bar. However in the case of scooter having a shorter wheel base providing an utility compartment on the front rear panel will further reduce the available leg space for the rider when he is seated on the vehicle.

Figure 1 displays a scooter type motorcycle (921) typically a two wheeled vehicle with a front wheel free rolling, steerable wheel (931) connected to the steering handle (971) via a telescopic fork (991) and a rear free rolling, non-steerable wheel (941) connected to each other by the floor board portion (731) (step thru space). The rear free rolling, non-steerable wheel (941) is connected to the seat assembly through the shock absorber (961) and frame (not shown) onto which the engine (not shown) is mounted. Figure 1 further exhibit the utility compartment (101) mounted on the said scooter type motorcycle by known means. Figure 1 elucidates the positioning and final fitment of the said utility compartment (101) on the scooter type motorcycle.

Figure 2 substantiates various elements of the said rear utility compartment, further figure displays the perspective sight of the embodied fitting interface (601) of the said utility compartment with frame. Front lid (401) is positioned at rearmost part of the motorcycle. The said front lid is coupled to the bottom base(801) through hinges (701). The said bottom base (801) extends till the end of the said body of utility compartment and joins with the rear wall (901) of the said rear utility compartment. The integral lateral walls (201&301) stand perpendicularly to the said bottom base (801) and rear wall (901). The present invention is further equipped with the illuminating member (781) place positioned just below the tail light (881 )of motorcycle as shown in figurel.

The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.

Claim:

1. A rear utility compartment for a motorcycle disposed in the continuous recess formed by rear side panels and tail light of the vehicle, the said rear utility compartment being arranged in the rear portion of the vehicle body of the motorcycle above the rear wheel cover and in amidst of rear side panels and taillight, the said rear utility vehicle comprising: a body of utility compartment, and the said body of utility compartment comprising: two integral lateral walls; a rear wall; first and second lateral walls respectively attached to said rear wall; a bottom base attached to said, rear and first and second integral lateral walls; the said body of the utility compartment having less height in the rear portion than the height in the front portion, and further the said rear utility compartment contains a illuminating member placed in obliquely horizontal direction near the top end of front lid which receive the light from the bottom portion of the taillight, the said rear utility compartment is equipped with the said front lid hinged to the said bottom base, lid moves pivotally along the hinge which makes the said rear utility compartment a front opening receptacle.

2. The rear utility compartment as claimed in clam 1 may be divided further into containers, casket, segments or storage units to facilitate vehicle utility storage for helmets, gloves and tools or any other purpose as per the customer requirement.

3. The said rear utility compartment as claimed in claim 1, wherein the body of the utility compartment is generally securely fitting to motorcycle through provided hole at appropriate places to enable fitment.

4. The rear utility compartment as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said rear utility compartment may be made up of resin.

5. A utility compartment substantially as herein described with reference and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
