Vegetarian Magic Mix: Substitute For Animal Milk

Abstract: A low cost, high quality, precooked vegetarian mix can bridge the gap and sustain the nutrition of the baby. A baby with chronic diarrhoea may develop lactose intolerance and will not be able to tolerate milk in any form. The children who cannot get breast milk or have developed lactose intolerance can be safely given this vegetarian magic mix as a substitute for animal milk. A composition includes cereal, pulses, legumes, oil seeds and nuts. The novel composition will be a substitute for milk and as effective as milk for infants. This preparation can be given by spoon or spoon like feeding devices to baby. Pinch of salt may be added in babies older than four months.

3. PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
4. COMPLETE
The following Specification
particularly describes the nature of
this invention and the manner in
which it is to be performed:
5. TECHNICAL FIELD
This invention relates to nutrition; in particular to novel dietary substitute for animal milk and easy to digest precooked mixture for complementary feeds.
6. BACKGROUND
Milk is a very costly commodity and beyond the reach of ordinary Indian family. If mother is unable to feed the baby on breast due to some unavoidable reasons for short or long time, animal milk is given to the baby. Since cow's milk or buffalo milk is very costly either it is not given at all or given in high dilution. The baby then becomes prey to malnutrition. The baby can consume adult type of food by one year of age. The period between breast feeding and ability to take adult type of foods becomes very critical and susceptible for food deprivation. The available weaning food mixtures for babies are very costly and therefore not used by Indian mothers from poor socioeconomic status.
A low cost, high quality, precooked vegetarian mix can bridge the gap and sustain the nutrition of the baby. A baby with chronic diarrhoea may develop lactose intolerance and will not be able to tolerate milk in any form.
Thus, the need exists for solutions to the above problems.
The children who cannot get breast milk or have developed lactose intolerance can be safely given this vegetarian magic mix as a substitute for animal milk.
7. SUMMARY
Thus, the need exists for solutions to the above problems.
A primary objective of the present invention is to provide a single dietary supplement which will fulfill the calorie, protein, calcium and iron requirement of the baby unable to be fed on breast and during the period of gap between breast feeding and consumption of adult type of food by the baby.
A secondary objective of the present invention is to provide a single dietary supplement for children with chronic diarrhoea, malnutrition as well as
babies with lactose intolerance.
The children who cannot get breast milk or have developed lactose intolerance can be safely given this vegetarian magic mix as a substitute for animal milk.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION:
1. To make animal milk substitute for babies from lower socioeconomic group.
2. To make animal milk substitute for cases of chronic diarrhea and malnutrition.
3. To make animal milk substitute for cases of lactose intolerance.
A composition includes cereal, pulses, legumes, oil seeds and nuts as given in table 1.

All ingredients are roasted on slow fire and powdered. Roasting improves keeping quality & digestibility. The novel composition will be a substitute for milk and as effective as milk for infants.
THE PROCEDURE FOR PREPARATION OF MAGIC MIX EMULSION- LIQUID FORM
One table spoonful of this vegetarian magic mix is to be mixed with one tea spoonful of sunflower oil, 6 table spoonfuls of water and 1/2 tea spoonful of sugar. This mixture is to be churned with churner and boiled. This one table spoonful (15 gm) of vegetarian magic mix will yield approximately 100 ml of emulsified liquid.
THE PROCEDURE FOR PREPARATION OF MAGIC MIX EMULSION- SEMISOLID FORM
Two table spoonful of this vegetarian magic mix is to be mixed with two tea spoonful of sunflower oil, 6 table spoonfuls of water and 1 tea spoonful of sugar. This mixture is to be churned with churner and boiled. This two table spoonful (30 gm) of vegetarian magic mix will yield approximately 100 ml of emulsified semisolid form.
The ingredients and approximate nutritive value of 100 ml of vegetarian magic mix emulsion is given in table 2.
