Vehicle Mounted Air Purification Device For Purifying Outdoor Air

Abstract: An air purification device which is compact, efficient yet affordable. Air purification device includes a case or housing having a flap or cap, a mesh layer, cassette assembly having filter or a plurality of filter layers and a latching assembly present on either side. The small curved flap or a cap is attached on the front top side of the case or housing. This flap or cap extends towards outside and helps to streamline more air towards the filter; which increases the efficiency of the air purification device.

Specification

The present invention relates to vehicle mounted air purification device for the purification of outdoor air which is compact and efficient. More specifically, the present invention relates to air purification devices which have case or housing, curved shape cap or a flap, mesh layer, cassette assembly comprising filter or plurality of filters and a latching assembly having handle and screw which helps in easy attachment and detachment of the air purification device.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[002] Air pollution refers to the release of pollutants into the air. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), since 2019, 99% of the world population has been living in places where the WHO air quality guidelines levels are not met. These pollutants are harmful not only for the environment but also for all living beings. In humans, they are responsible for number of pollution-related diseases like asthma, heart disease, COPD, stroke and lung cancer. Additionally, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), each year air pollution is responsible for nearly seven million deaths around the globe.

[003] The most dangerous pollutants in urban air are particulate matter, ground-level ozone, nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide.

[004] The most common sources of outdoor air pollution are traffic and industry which cause the release of high concentrations of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

[005] In view of ever-increasing need of the clean and pure air, many air purification devices and systems have been developed purification of air in the recent times.

[006] Unfortunately, most of the air purification devices emphasise on the purification of indoor air only which are to used in a home or confined space. Reference may be made to US Publication No. 20180085706 A which covers the system for purifying indoor air, wherein the system comprises a packed column for contacting an incoming air stream with a purifying solution to produce an outgoing air stream; one or more devices for cooling or maintaining the incoming air stream, the purifying solution; an optional filter for removing particulates entrained in the outgoing air stream; and an apparatus for adding water vapours to the outgoing air stream to produce a purified. air exhaust that is humidified.

[007] US patent No. 7276100 B2 discloses air purifying device comprising a housing including an air inlet and an air outlet; a fan including a motor and a fan blade; a filter assembly positioned within said housing between said air inlet and wherein said fan wherein the said filter assembly including a frame and a first filter element mounted to said frame.

[008] Reference may be made to another US Publication viz. US20050164625 A is directed to a combination of air purifier and ventilator that combines air purifier and ventilator for not only effectively removing dust floating in air, but also ventilating room air.

[009] There are few publications which are related to the compact air purifier which can be used to purify the cabin air inside the vehicle. For example, IN 269474 covers novel air intake system for vehicles which comprises an air intake duct, water separator, air filter, plurality of connecting hoses, connecting pipe and turbocharger, wherein said duct is branched in to two streams, one for supplying air to cabin and other for supplying air to engine, said water separator is provided with at least two baffles and plurality of drain holes.

[0010] There are very less air purifiers available today which can be used for purification of outdoor air. Further, even if they are available, devices available today in the market are quite expensive and are unaffordable for many people living in developing as well under developed countries.

[0011] Therefore, there exist the needs of the air purification devices which can be used for purification of outdoor air, which are effective and yet inexpensive and which can circumvent the problems associated with currently available devices. Also, there is a need of the air purification device which can be mounted and detached from the vehicle easily without the use of much force.

SUMMARY
[0012] The following presents a simplified summary of the invention to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the invention. This summary is not an extensive overview of the present invention. It is not intended to identify the key/critical elements of the invention or to delineate the scope of the invention. Its sole purpose is to present some concept of the invention in a simplified form as a prelude to a more detailed description of the invention presented later.

[0013] Accordingly, the object of the present invention is to provide air purification device which can be used for purification of outdoor air.

[0014] Another object of the present invention is to provide air purification device that can be installed or mounted on any vehicle for purification of outdoor air.

[0015] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide air purification device which has a mechanical advantage and can be attached and detached from the vehicle easily by using less force.

[0016] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an air purification device which is inexpensive and efficient.

[0017] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide air purification device that can be used purification of outdoor air at a large scale without use of any extra energy source i.e., fan or motor.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0020] This section is intended to provide an explanation and description of various possible embodiments of the present invention. The examples used herein are intended only to facilitate an understanding of ways in which the embodiments herein may be practiced and to further enable the person skilled in the art to practice the embodiments used herein. Also, the examples/embodiments described herein should not be construed as limiting the scope of the embodiments herein.

[0021] The air purification device of the present invention can be used for purification of outdoor air or any open environment. It can be installed or mounted on any vehicle for purification of outdoor air.

[0022] In one embodiment, vehicle can be any 3-wheeler to 8-wheeler having a roof height between 4-8 feet.

[0023] In another embodiment, the device comprises a case or housing having a curved shape flap or a cap, a mesh layer, cassette assembly having filter or a plurality of filter layers and a latching assembly present on either side.

[0024] Case or the housing as mentioned herein above is made of any light weight material such as aluminium, aluminium alloys, magnesium alloys, carbon fibres and polymer composites.

[0025] In some cases, the air entering the device may escape from the top of the device. Therefore, in one embodiment, small curved flap or a cap is attached on the front top side of the case or housing. This flap or cap extends towards outside and helps to streamline more air towards the filter; which increases the efficiency of the air purification device.

[0026] In another, embodiment, the case or the housing may have a flexible hinge in the centre with the help of which device becomes foldable. Hinge is attached to the case or housing by means such as screws, adhesives, laser welding, ultrasonic welding, heat stakes, assembled pins, snaps or any combination of the above-mentioned methods. The flexible hinge may be elastic in nature.

[0027] When the air purification device is not being used, it can be uninstalled and folded. In the folded state, the device becomes compact and occupies less space. When the air purification device is to be used, it can be unfolded and installed or mounted on the vehicle.

[0028] Mesh layer in the air purification device is in direct contact with the open area environment and blocks the entry of large matters suspended in the air such as papers, leaves etc. Mesh layer may be made of metallic wire or fibre or plastic or any similar material.

[0029] Filter or plurality of filters used in the present invention may be configured to remove gases, different sized particles and elements from the air.

[0030] The gases, elements and particles as mentioned above may be particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, lead, viruses, bacteria, dust, pollen, mould spores, odours, toxic fumes, dust mites and coal by-products. Filter layers may be configured to filter particle sizes up to 2.5 ppm.

[0031] In the present invention, the latching assembly comprises handle and screw which have been adapted to be fitted or mounted onto the vehicle roof.

[0032] Due to its unique fitting of latching assembly with the screw and handle on the either side; handle can be pulled outside. Therefore, the air purification device of the present invention provides the mechanical advantage not only from the screw itself but also from the leverage of a handle which can be elongated by pulling outside.

[0033] From the conservation of energy, the work done on the screw by the rotational input force equals the work done on the mass by the resulting axial force:

Work done is equal to the force multiplied by the distance over which it acts so, for 1 complete revolution, the work done is given by:

Therefore, it can be seen that the ideal mechanical advantage is given by:

[0034] Therefore, as detailed above, mechanical advantage in the device is gained not only from the screw itself but also from the handle which helps in generating an output force which is much greater than an input force applied thereto. This helps in gaining the mechanical advantage which is n times the input force, wherein n is 50-100.

[0035] Since, the mechanical advantage has been achieved, the air purification device of the present invention can be attached and detached easily from the vehicle without the ise of much force.

[0036] By detaching the device, filter which is most important component in the air purification device, can be separated easily and cleaned. This provides the advantage as below:
• Ensures the efficiency of air purifier as dirty, clogged filters result in decreasing the efficiency of the system by a significant amount. Cleaning these air filters, on the other hand, ensures consistent efficiency.
• Airborne particles do not get filtered because of a dirty filter.
• Extends the life of the air purification device.
• Beneficial as it helps to provide clean, purified air to our environment.

[0037] In one of the preferred embodiments, the external air enters the air purification device through the mesh layer and interacts with the filters. The filter layer(s) filters the suspended particulate matter ranging up to 2.5ppm and allows the passage of filtered air into the environment through the back layer.

We claim:
1. A vehicle mounted air purification device for purifying outdoor air comprising:
a) a case or a housing;
b) a curve shaped cap or a flap attached on the front top side of the case or housing,
c) a mesh layer which is in direct contact with the open area environment,
d) a cassette assembly disposed within the case comprising filter or plurality of filters
configured to remove particle sizes up-to 2.5 ppm from the inlet air;
e) a latching assembly comprising screws and handles on the either side of the case;
wherein the unique fitting of the screws and handles provide mechanical advantage which is n
times the input force, where n is between 50-100 and wherein the curve shaped flap or a cap
aid in streamlining outdoor air towards the filter.
2. The vehicle mounted air purification device as claimed in claim 1, wherein mechanical
advantage helps in attachment and detachment of the air purification device without the use of
much force.
3. The vehicle mounted air purification device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the case is
made of light weight material of one of aluminium, aluminium alloys, magnesium alloys,
carbon fibers and polymer composites.
4. The vehicle mounted air purification device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the mesh layer
blocks the entry of large matters and may be made of metallic wire or fibre or plastic or any
similar material.
5. The vehicle mounted air purification device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the filters are
made from the material which are washable.
6. The vehicle mounted air purification device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the filters are
made from the material which are replaceable.

7. The vehicle mounted air purification device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the device is
used for purification of outdoor air.
8. The vehicle mounted air purification device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the device is
foldable.
9. A method for purification of outdoor air by a vehicle mounted air purification device as
claimed in claim 1, the method comprising:
a. assembling a cassette module with filter or plurality of filters into a case;
b. mounting the case on exterior of a vehicle;
c. facilitating inlet of outside air by driving the vehicle; and
d. purifying the inlet air by passing through the cassette.
