Vehicle Smart Key

Abstract: A vehicle smart key system comprises a wired bridge between smart key and vehicle ignition which is used to get information about various vehicle parameters and it also consist of display unit to display the same. Display unit can also display the owner"s information when proper input is given to the smart key from the buttons on the Smart key. Along with the display unit, smart key makes the use of buzzer which helps in locating the smart key from the vehicle itself. Battery of the Smart key is charged from the vehicle battery and/or can also be charged with the help of solar panel embedded with smart key (future scope). This key can be made water proof for securing the smart key system from getting damage.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
The following specification particularly describes the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
This invention relates to the field of electronic and embedded systems. Particularly this invention relates to vehicles Key. More particularly, this invention relates to an improved vehicle key (Smart Key).
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
A key is a Mechanical device which is used for security purpose. A key is particular element of Bike/Car (any vehicle) which helps to get access to the vehicle. A key is generally made up of hard metal (Iron, Steel etc) with fiber's or plastic's holder, for holding the key properly. According to the design (pattern) curved on metal part of the key, the level of security can be observed. With increase in complexion in the patterns security also increases. Every lock (Ignition lock of the vehicle) has its unique key (i.e : Key with the pattern designed according to unlocking mechanism of ignition lock, can only unlock the ignition lock).
US 8736438 discloses techniques for using a computing device as a smart vehicle key. The computing device may send a validation request signal to a vehicle via a first short-range communication protocol. After to sending

the validation request signal, the computing device may establish a secure connection with the vehicle over a second short-range communication protocol. The computing device may send via the secure connection an ignition signal to the vehicle that activates an ignition system operable to activate a motor of the vehicle. The computing device may periodically send via the secure connection a keep-alive message to the vehicle as the motor of the vehicle is running.
US 9194168 disclose a vehicle's computing device may receive information identifying a client computing device, a pickup location, and an encryption key. When the vehicle is within a given distance of the pickup location, the computing device uses the encryption key to authenticate the client computing device. When the client computing device is authenticated, the computing device may estimate a first distance between the client computing device and the vehicle based on strength of a signal received from the client computing device. The computing device may then automatically determine when to unlock the vehicle by selecting between a first distance value and a second distance value. The first value is selected when the first distance is greater than a threshold value, and the second value is selected when the first distance is less than the threshold value. The computing device may unlock the vehicle based on the determination.
EP0809743 discloses an electronic key for actuating a lock is particularly useful for closure systems of motor vehicles. The housing (1) of the electronic key is shaped as a thin wedge. The narrow end (2) of the wedge

is designed to be introduced into the lock and contains the parts that actuate the lock. In addition, the housing has a cavity (7) for receiving the key bit of a key for a mechanical lock.
ru02117745 discloses devices intended for protection of objects from unauthorized access. Electronic lock can be installed in door of protected premise, in safe, motor vehicle. Electronic key stores certain number of different codes needed for opening of similar-type locks with various codes of user. Device functions so that change of lock code is effected by pressing code changing button with actuation of digital noise generator. In this case, code remains inaccessible for user or other person. Lock opens after its code coincides with code received from key from some distance by means of infrared radiation or by other means. Codes can be copied by user from identification unit of lock to identification unit of key and vice versa by operating with connector or system of optical radiators and receivers. In given version of usage, codes can be copied from identification unit of one key to identification unit of other key. Aforesaid advantages can afford wide potentialities, such as transmission of code to authorized person with subsequent cancelling of this code, or giving same code to different locks
EP1335328 discloses an electronic key system has a portable apparatus, an operation control device and an update control device. The portable apparatus selectively transmits a first signal and a second signal. The operation control device authorizes an operation of a key based on reception of Lhe first signal. The update control device transmits an update signal in a private region of the owner of the portable apparatus.

The portable apparatus has a counter and a portable apparatus controller. When receiving the update signal, the portable apparatus controller resets the counter. When the counting value of the counter is equal to or less than a predetermined limit value, the controller selects the first signal as a signal to be transmitted. When the counting value is in excess of the limit value, the controller selects the second signal as a signal to be transmitted.
WO2004028873 discloses a vehicle electronic key system which has a control device (14) including means for outputting a request signal (Sr) to an electronic key (12) in response to the ON operation of a predetermined switch (start switch (70)) among a plurality of switches (winker switch, horn switch, etc.) arranged in the vicinity of a user who has sat on the driver seat of the vehicle (100B) (request signal generation means (80), a transmission circuit (46), and a transmission antenna (72)), means for detecting a response signal (Sa) from the electronic key (12) (a reception circuit (44) and response signal matching means (82)), and monitoring means (84) for outputting a lock release instruction to an actuator (64) when the response signal (Sa) shows that the request is from a regular user.
CN101784735 discloses electronic key which makes it possible to easily check whether data is read out from a contact-type IC chip with high reliability in security. An electronic key (1) is provided with a contact-type IC chip (13), which is connected to first and second terminal members (11, 2) in series, and data in the contact-type IC chip (13) is read out by a current flowing between the first and second terminal members (11, 2). The electronic key has an LED (9), which is arranged in parallel to the

contact-type IC chip (13) and is lighted by using the current that flows between the first and second terminal members (11, 2) when the first and second terminal members (11, 2) are brought into contact with IC chip data reading means (14, 15). The LED (9) is lighted to notify that the data is read out from the contact-type IC chip (13)
KR1020070012625 discloses a mechanism for starting a vehicle engine by means of an electronic key. Said mechanism comprises a receiving device in the vehicle for inserting the key. The key that is inserted in said receiving device cannot be twisted while being movable in a longitudinal direction into at least one defined raised position. Such mechanisms are provided with locking devices which secure the electronic key in the receiving slot against being removed during operation of the vehicle. Said locking device is controlled via electrical drives. In order to be able to remove the key when the drive is down or in case of a power failure in the vehicle, means are provided that allows the key to be removed mechanically as an emergency measure.
DE102008024958 discloses an electronic key (S) has an electronic component (EK), and a thermoelectric generator. The thermoelectric generator is provided with a group of thermoelectric elements, where the thermoelectric element has a conductor element (L1) consisting of a material with higher energy electrons and another conductor element (L2) consisting of another material with low energy electrons. The two conductor elements are electrically connected to form a thermally conductive contact point (K1).

In accordance of the present invention the smart-key provided is the key with display which can be use to view the parameters of the vehicle. Power is supplied by the rechargeable to the smart-key for functioning. Smart key is also equipped with Buzzer and wireless receiver, using which key can be found remotely from vehicle itself.
This key will also content the owner's information (Name and Contact Number) which will be helpful in returning the key if stranger found the key. For proper functioning of the Smart-key new Ignition and Key design has to be made (necessary).
However, there is an unmet need of smart vehicle-key with display indicating valuable parameters of the vehicle, and with the functionality which helps in finding the key in case of misplaced/missing.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
Therefore one object of the present invention is to provide an improved vehicle key.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved vehicle key which shall indicate various parameters of the vehicle.
Yet another object of the present invention is to take vehicle key to the new level in the world of style.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
According to the present invention, there is provided a vehicle smart key.
The smart key works on the basis of information it collects from the vehicle. Using various sensors vehicle's parameters status is checked and according to the vehicle's parameters status, data is computed. The computed data is used for indicating status of vehicle's parameters on the display. Computed data is transferred to the smart key by using wired connection which is established on inserting the smart key into the ignition system.
The smart key accepts the user input and work accordingly. For viewing different parameters different inputs are needed from user side. Inputs are given by using push buttons, switches, etc. (or it can also be given by using touch screen display). These inputs are processed by processing unit which may contain microcontroller or any other processing circuit or IC.
In case of damage to the electronic circuit or low battery, the performance of the vehicle is not affected as ignition system is truly a mechanical assembly.
Preferably smart key is also capable of sensing the input given from the vehicle which is helpful in finding the smart key in case of misplaced.

ADVANTAGES OF THE PRESENT INVENTION:
1) Vehicle smart key consists of a Receiver which is used in locating smart key from the vehicle itself.
2) Vehicle smart key does not activate ignition system of vehicle electronically. Ignition system is purely mechanical or same as that of existing one or could be one with certain modification. Vehicle ignition system can be turn on mechanically even in case of damage (non-working electronic part) in the electronic parts of the Vehicle smart key.
3) As vehicle cannot start without putting key in the ignition system, this frees user from charging key externally as it starts charging with ignition activation.
4) As vehicle parameter's data is transmitted by using wired connection, this prevents unnecessary battery uses of the vehicles, as it has to continuously transmit vehicle parameter's data in case of wireless transmission.
5) As the mileage of the vehicle is totally dependent on speed of the vehicle, load on vehicle, condition of vehicle's engine, etc. it is preferable to indicate fuel level of the vehicle rather than calculating a total distance that vehicle can cover.
6) Smart key is capable of providing owner's information which will be usefull in case of key LOST. Using graphical and/or touch display more features can be add to the Smart Key (for eg :- driving license information can also be carry within the Smart Key itself, Vehicle documents can also be saved in the

Smart Key itself, owner's contact number register at the time of buying the vehicle can also be saved in the Smart Key itself, etc). 7) The key can be search easily when it is in the vehicle's range.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
According to this invention, there is provided a vehicle smart key.
The present invention meets the aforementioned and other needs by providing a vehicle smart key with display indicating valuable parameters of the vehicle, and with the functionality which helps in finding the key in case of misplaced/missing.
Vehicle smart key system consists of two or more controllers or processors. One is in the smart key and other is at the vehicle for data processing.
Preferably one separate controller can be used for measurement of speed and distance or other real time parameters of the vehicle.
In accordance with an embodiment of this invention, figure 2 illustrates the generalized block diagram of the smart key which comprises of various modules used in the smart key for its complete functioning. Block diagram also shows the generalized connections between different modules of the smart key and module titles. The specific module is used for specific purpose like battery is used for supplying power to the complete electronic parts, microcontroller is used for processing data, fuel level sensor is used to check fuel level, display unit is used for displaying computed data, wireless receiver transmitter pair is used for transferring and receiving the data wirelessly, etc.

Figure 3 illustrates main functioning of the smart key and brief internal connections and their flow in the following cases:
CASE 1: When vehicle smart key is inserted in the ignition and is at ON position.
When vehicle smart key is inserted in the ignition system of the vehicle and moves to the ON position, vehicle electronics circuit gets completed and smart key's battery (10) starts charging form the vehicle's battery (11). Along with that both the microcontrollers that is microcontroller (12) of the smart key and microcontroller (13) of the vehicle gets power from their respective batteries. Microcontroller (13) collects information about various parameters of the vehicle through Fuel-level-sensor (14), Handel-lock-sensor (15), speed-and-distance-measurement-sensor (16), etc. Now if push-button(18) is latched due to mechanical assembly than only microcontroller(13) starts sending collected data to the microcontroller (12) thought a wired-connection(19) by using some data transmission protocol ( for eg:- SPI,I2C,UART,etc.) and when the push-button(17) is latched due to mechanical assembly than only microcontroller (12) starts receiving data from microcontroller 13). At the same time microcontroller (13) saves status of vehicle's data into microcontroller (13) memory unit. On the other hand microcontroller 12) does the same with received data from microcontroller(13).While the microcontroller 12) receives the data from microcontroller 13), microcontroller 12) displays some message on display-unit(20) of the smart key (It could be vehicle name , manufacturer's info, etc.) . Using reset-key (22) one can reset the trip distance traveled by the vehicle and

using master reset (23) all the parameters of the vehicles can be reset. Once the microcontroller (13) processes all the data, it displays it on Vehicle-meter-display (21).
CASE 2: When vehicle smart key is inserted in the ignition and is at OFF / HANDLE-LOCK position.
When the vehicle smart key is at OFF position than microcontroller (13) reads the status of the Handle-lock-sensor (15) and takes the action according to that.
CASE 3: When vehicle smart key is in the range of the vehicle and is not in the ignition.
When the vehicle smart key is not in the ignition and is in the range of the vehicle then the smart key can be found from vehicle itself by using Find-key (24). When Find-key (24) is pressed, microcontroller (13) sends certain data to microcontroller (12) by using wireless-transmitter (26) and this data is received by wireless-receiver (27) on the smart key side. If the particular data is received by the wireless-receiver (27) than it turns ON the buzzer (25) for the predefine time. This buzzer (25) can also be turned OFF manually by using switch (28). When the Push-button (29) is pressed microcontroller (12) fetches the saved data from its memory unit and display it on the smart-key-display (20). If the Push-button (29) is long pressed than microcontroller (12) fetches already saved data (for

example:- owner's information that could help in returning the key to the owner and vehicle documents information ) and displays it on the Smart-key-display(20) till the Push-button (29) is pressed. Reset-key (30) can be used to refresh/reset Smart key's microcontroller (12).
CASE 4: When key is not in the range of the vehicle and is not in the ignition.
When the vehicle smart key is not in the range of the vehicle and it is not in the ignition system and if Push-button (29) is pressed, microcontroller (12) fetches the saved data from its memory unit and displays it on the smart-key-display (20). If the Push-button (29) is long pressed than microcontroller (12) fetches already saved data (for eg:- owner's information that could help in returning the key to the owner) and displays it on the smart-key-display(20) till the Push-button(29) is pressed. Reset-key 30) can be used to refresh/reset Smart key's microcontroller (12).
While the invention is susceptible to various modifications and alternative forms, specific embodiments have been shown by way of example. However, it should be understood that the invention is not intended to be limited to particular forms disclosed herein above. Rather, the invention is to cover all modifications, equivalent, and alternatives falling within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by claims later on.
It is to be understood that the process of the present invention is susceptible to modifications, changes and adaptations are intended to be with the scope of the present invention.

CLAIMS:
I Claim,
1) A vehicle smart key comprising :
a) Microcontroller (IC) or any electronic circuitry, display which is used to display various parameters of the vehicle, also consists of rechargeable battery which is used to power electronic circuitry of the smart key along with charging circuit used for the purpose of charging the same battery;
b) Buzzer, switch (sliding switch) and push buttons;
c) Various parameters of the vehicle which are displayed in smart key are fuel level status, handle lock status, trip reading, owner information (name and contact number, vehicle information, driving license);
d) A receiver which is used for locating smart key from the vehicle itself;
e) Turning on vehicle ignition system mechanically even in case of damage (non-working electronic part) in the electronic parts of the vehicle smart key.

2) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, wherein said display can be any suitable display. (for example : 16x2 LCD or any LCD, touch display, LED display, E-paper display, etc)
3) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, wherein said buzzer is any electronic or any sound producing device or equipment which works on power source.
4) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, wherein said battery is small rechargeable battery available in market and is capable of supplying power to the circuit.

5) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, wherein said microcontroller can be any microcontroller or IC ( Integrated circuit ) capable of satisfying required functionality of the said smart key.
6) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, wherein said receiver is any electronic receiver which has moderate range for receiving signal from vehicle.
7) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, wherein said vehicle smart key turns on the vehicle ignition system mechanically, wherein the ignition system is mechanical and as vehicle starts only by putting the key in the ignition system, this frees user from charging key externally as it starts charging with ignition activation and vehicle parameter's data is transmitted by using wired connection, which prevents unnecessary battery usage of the vehicles, as vehicle transmit vehicle's parameter data to the smart key only when key is in the ignition system.
8) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, key with display or any indicating unit is the main concept behind the smart key, thus any key having such facility is termed as smart key.
9) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, wherein said various parameters of the vehicle include owner's information which the smart key is capable of providing which will be useful in case if the key is lost and key can be searched easily when it is in the vehicle's range from the vehicle itself.
10) The vehicle smart key as claimed in claim 1, wherein said various parameters of the vehicle include fuel level status of the vehicle,

the mileage of the vehicle which is totally dependent on speed of the vehicle, load on vehicle, condition of vehicle's engine, etc, it is preferable to indicate fuel level of the vehicle rather than calculating total distance the vehicle can cover.
