Abstract: A vibration proof structure for headlamp housing rear is provided to isolate the instrument cluster or headlamp housing front from the headlamp housing rear. A rubber beading is made in a single piece which extends along the ribs on the interior sides of the headlamp housing rear in both front and side ways.
Vibration Proof Structure for Headlamp Housing
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a "Vibration Proof Structure for Headlamp Housing". In particular this invention relates to vibration proof structure for headlamp housing for motorcycle.
Background of the Invention
In a typical motorcycle, headlamp is housed in head lamp housing assembly which comprises of a front cowl (herein after referred to as head lamp housing front or HLF) and headlamp housing rear (HLR). The HLF is also provided with a visor. The HLR is located in between the back side of the HLF and handle bar. The HLF and HLR are connected through brackets which is a part of sub frame attached to the front suspension of the vehicle. Generally, the front surface of the HLR comes in contact with the visor and the rear surface comes in contact with the handle bar bracket plastic cover. During running condition these contacts leads to vibration and rattling sound. In order to avoid the above problem quite a number of rubber pads (shown in figure 5) were provided which were manually glued to the headlamp housing. And since it is manually fixed no accuracy as to the location is guaranteed and in long run the rubber pads are also dislocated. The other disadvantage associated with the rubber pads is that it leads to an uneven gap formation between the components.
Typically, the HLR accommodates the speedometer housing or like components and since both the HLR and the speedometer housing or like components are made up plastic, during running condition these two plastic components gets rubbed with each other due to uneven gaps and in long run produces white powder leading to wear
and tear of the components.
The present invention overcomes the above mentioned problems.
Summary of the Invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a vibration proof structure for headlamp housing, wherein HLR unites the front cowl (which covers at least the front portion of the motorcycle) and a plurality of individual lamp bodies and instrument cluster housing. In order to achieve this objective the HLR is provided with rubber beading in the areas where the headlamp housing rear comes in contact with the near parts, thereby reducing the rattling sound and vibration.
The other object of the present invention is to provide covering accuracy that is no uneven gaps are formed. In order to achieve this rubber beading is made to match the profile of the relief provided in the top section of the HLR wherein the instrument cluster is disposed on.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a vibration proof structure for headlamp housing which eliminates uneven gaps.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a vibration proof structure for headlamp housing which reduces part counts.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.

Fig 1 shows a motorcycle according to one of the embodiment of the present invention.

Fig 4 shows the assembled condition of the rubber beading to the headlamp housing.
Fig 5 shows the prior art for the present invention.
Detail Description of the Drawings
A preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described hereunder with reference to the accompanying drawings.
First, with reference to figure 1 a motorcycle comprises of a frame (101), front fork (102) attached to a pivot tube (201) of the vehicle frame, a front wheel (103) attached to these front forks (102), a handle bar (104) connected to the front forks (102), a fuel tank (105) attached so as to straddle an upper part of the vehicle frame, a seat (106) attached to the upper rear portion of the vehicle frame, an engine unit (107) attached to the lower front section of the vehicle frame, a swing arm (108) attached to a lower rear section of the vehicle frame, suspended by a rear shock absorber (not shown) from the vehicle frame and a rear wheel attached to a rear end of swing arm (108). The intake system of the engine comprises of a fuel air metering device such as a carburettor (109), intake duct and an air cleaner. The exhaust system of the engine comprises of exhaust pipe and a muffler. The motorcycle is also provided with a side cover for covering a side section of the vehicle frame, a seat cover for covering a rear section of the vehicle frame below the seat, a front fender (110) for covering an upper part of the front wheel (103), and a rear fender (111) for covering an upper part of the rear wheel (112). The drive from the engine (107) is transmitted from the engine to the driven wheel sprocket mounted on the rear wheel hub mounted on the rear wheel assembly.
A tail lamp unit (113) is provided between the rear centre cover and the rear side cover. The vehicle body can be supported by a main stand (114) or a side stand. Further, a pillion rider step projects laterally from the lower part of the vehicle frame on each side of the motorcycle body.
The front fork (102) is rotatably supported on the pivot tube (201). The upper portion of the front fork (102) for supporting front wheel is connected to a head pipe through a bottom bridge (115) and a top bridge (116). Referring to figure 2, a front cowl (202) or fairing (which is also referred to as HLF hereinafter) is mounted onto a support structure, which goes into the fork inner of front fork. A headlight (203) goes into the cavity of the HLF (202). Two winkers (204) are mounted onto to two brackets extended from the tube outer of the support structure through the relief provided in the side of HLR (205). The support structure is assembled onto the front fork inner of the front fork. A handle bar (104) is mounted through a handle shaft to an upper extending portion of the front fork (102). The fuel tank (105) is provided between the handle bar (104) and the seat (106).
The HLF (202) is provided with a visor (206). The HLR (205) is located in between the back side of the front cowl (or HLF) (202) and handle bar (104).
The HLR (205) in the present invention unites the HLF (202) (which covers at least the front portion of the motorcycle) and a plurality of winkers (204) and instrument cluster housing (207). The HLR (205) is provided with a relief (208) on its upper side or top section. The said relief (208) is of a shape which exactly matches the profile of the instrument cluster housing (207). Referring to figure 3, a rubber beading (301) is provided on this relief (208), thereby isolating the instrument cluster (207) coming directly in touch with the headlamp housing (205) to eliminate vibration and noise
The HLR (205), front surface side is fastened to the HLF by screws (209) and the rear surface has opening portion to accommodate the holder for the lamps, wiring circuits, etc. The visor (206) from the HLF (202) comes in contact with the front edge of the said HLR (205) and the side of the HLR (205) where it is fastened to front cowl (202) by a bracket, also comes in to contact. To isolate the above contacts from the HLR (205) the said rubber beading (301) which was earlier provided in the relief portion (208) is extended front ways on the interior side and covers the front edge profile of the HLR (205). Even the handle bar bracket cover also comes in contact with the rear portion of the HLR (205) and to isolate this contact the rubber beading (301) is extended on the interior side from the said relief portion to that rear edge where it comes in contact.
The said rubber beading with its extended portion is made in single piece. Figure 4 shows the rubber beading assembled to the headlamp housing.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
We Claim:
1. A vibration proof structure for headlamp housing rear, which unites the front cowl
covering at least the front portion of the vehicle and a plurality of individual lamp
bodies and speedometer, comprising:
a relief on the top section of headlamp housing rear to accommodate the speedometer;
an opening portion in a rear section to accommodate headlamp holder and wiring circuits; and
a beading formed on the relief profile on the top section of the headlamp housing
rear.
2. The vibration proof structure for headlamp housing rear as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said beading is made in one piece extending along the ribs on the interior sides of the headlamp housing rear, in both front and side ways.
3. The vibration proof structure for headlamp housing rear as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said beading is preferably of rubber material or like.
4. The vibration proof structure for headlamp housing rear as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said beading is preferably of uniform thickness.
