DESC:FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to the field of vehicle engineering. More particularly, the present invention relates to a vortex generator type baffle for mobile off highway heavy equipment.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Water sprinklers are the mobile off-highway heavy equipment used to sprinkle water and suppress dust particles while the mine haul road is maintained. During the vehicle's dynamic condition, the movement of the fluid medium inside the water tank exerts high inertial forces due to the inherent center of gravity of the equipment.
Vortex generators are used in automotive body exterior applications to reduce aerodynamic effects such as drag, lift, etc. Vortex generators are also available in aero-plane wing structures to control the turbulence effect.
The established technology of using vortex generators is to bring a medium into a vortex motion in several different ways. The most common one is that the medium is forced into a motion inside the vortex chamber by the use of guide rails. The problem with this approach is that as soon as the guiding rail comes to an end, the pressure also dissipates. Another established method is to blow the medium into the vortex chamber tangentially as a homogenous mass with high pressure and high flow. This method generates a rotation of the medium, which is similar to the rotation of a solid body and eventually leads to turbulence. Yet another method is to use a kind of disc, which rotates at a high speed and thus pulls the medium with it. This results in high pressure in the periphery, which causes the structured vortex to quickly break down into turbulence.
Patent no US10029830B2 discloses a tank for transporting liquids, comprising: a tank vessel having front and rear walls defining a longitudinal direction, opposing sidewalls defining a lateral direction and a floor and a top. A baffle system is disposed the interior of the tank which includes a plurality of baffles extending in the longitudinal direction. A bypass circuit is introduced between the supply line and the return line is arranged by a hydraulic motor, and being configured to enable the hydraulic fluid to flow from the supply line through the bypass circuit to the return line. Even though the prior art discloses a system to control the inertia by introducing a by-pass circuit, the decrease flow through the bypass circuit only occurs when the speed of the hydraulic motor increases.
Patent no US7604256B2 discloses a fire tanker truck comprising: a generally cylindrical tank mounted on the truck, wherein a longitudinal axis of the tank is parallel to the truck's direction of locomotion; a plurality of circularly shaped head baffle is mounted at right angles to, and spaced along the longitudinal axis of the tank; an access cutout is formed in each head baffle which a door being removably fastened to each head baffle and at least partially covering the access cutout. The bottom of the door forms a portion of a water transfer port through each head baffle and a vacuum pump connected to the tank for charging and discharging water. The aforementioned prior art discloses a door being removably fastened to each baffle head and an additional vacuum pump to control the inertia of the water during liquid transportation. Unfortunately, the doors in the baffle only controls the liquid’s movements from one baffle to another but fails to resolve the sloshing effect of the liquid during transportation.
Thus difficulties arise in certain cases where it is important to keep the flowing medium in a controlled vortex motion. When it comes to hydro cyclones, for instance, combustion chambers in jet engines, the technique of blowing the medium into the chamber tangentially as a homogenous mass has been used, but one of the problems with this method is that in this case, flow is interrupted, resulting in turbulence. Another problem is that when the flowing medium is blown or forced into the vortex chamber in a homogenous and more or less laminar flow, the vortex does not form a spiral flow pattern, but would in this case also start to rotate in the manner of a solid body to eventually change to a turbulent flow.
With the increase in demand for developing higher tank capacity of water sprinklers used in off-highway road maintenance applications, the equipment center of gravity increases concerning the water tank capacity. Therefore instinct dynamic forces are induced into the equipment systems due to movement of fluid producing adverse sloshing effect with a high center of gravity, which in turn creates impulse force on the chassis mainframe, transmission, brakes etc.,
Accordingly, there exists a need for a vortex generator type baffle inside a water sprinkler tank.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 illustrates a vortex generator type vehicle (100) for transporting liquid having a container (120) is mounted on the chassis (110) of the vehicle (100). As shown in figure 2, the container (120) is mounted in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle (100). During transportation of liquid matter such as water or oil, the sudden braking or acceleration of the vehicle (100) may results in accident as the sloshing effect of the liquid in longitudinal direction may affect the centre of gravity during motion. Further, it also affects the performance of the vehicle (100).
Figure 3 illustrates a frame rigidly mounted in the inner portion of the container (120). Further, a plurality of baffle (200) vertically mounted in the frame (130) such that, each baffle (200) is equally spaced and arranged to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle (100). The rigidness of the frame (130) and the baffle (200) facilitates the container (120) to be resistant to external forces during transportation.
Each baffle (200) has plurality of orifice (210, 220) in the surface of the baffle (200). The orifice (210, 220) facilitates the movement of liquid to flow through the baffles (200) during transportation. According to the main aspect of the present invention as shown in figure 4, a pair of butterfly members (300) is laterally mounted between each baffle (200) defining one or more compartments (320). The butterfly members (300) are disposed opposite to each other such that, the container (120) is split into two portions having one or more compartments (320) arranged in either sides of the container (120).
As shown in figure 5 and 6, the butterfly member (300) having two curved plates is interconnected by a connector plate (330) in the mid portion. Further, a vortex generator (400) mounted in the horizontal plane of each compartment (320) such that, the sloshing effect of the liquid in longitudinal direction transforms into whirling effect in the lateral direction and dissipates energy in form of damping. The vortex generators (100) are fabricated with steel rolled guide plates.
As shown in figure 6, assuming the container (120) of the vehicle is filled with liquid. During transportation of the vehicle (100), the liquid generates sloshing effect in the longitudinal direction as the baffle (200) restricts the flow. Due to the arrangement of the buttery member (300) and vortex generator (400) the sloshing effect of the liquid in a compartment (320) is transformed into whirling effect and flow through the next compartment (320). Further, the energy produced by the liquid medium is dissipated in form of damping. Therefore, the inertia of the liquid is controlled and prohibits forces acting on the vehicle chassis (110) during transportation.
