Abstract: A deflector assembly for a fender of a vehicle is described herein. Generally, fenders are provided with fender liners. Fender liners prevent rusting of the surface of fender, which is exposed to water and mud. In the absence of fender liners, the fender surface can get damaged due to rusting. The deflector assembly described herein prevents rusting of the fender surface by isolating the fender from water and mud.

Field of Invention:
The present invention relates to use of water deflectors in mud guards of automobiles.
Background:
In the prior art, vehicles are provided with mud guard 100, which is a single metallic part, mounted on the vehicle chassis covering the wheel as shown in Fig 1, thereby preventing the ingress of water and dirt whirling onto the vehicle components near the wheels. Under conditions of constant dirt, mud and water splashing, these conventional mud guards or liners become quite vulnerable to rusting especially the lower portion of the curved mud flap, thereby leading to severe damage and may rip off or loosen from its attached portion from the chassis. Eventually the damage caused makes the mud guard not reusable. The complete installation of mud liners is not only costly but very often the conventional design is not effective enough to prevent the ingress of water and dirt completely especially when vehicles traverse over muddy terrain. Thus, there is also a possibility of water entering the engine through air filter
So, there is a need for a water deflector combined with the mud liner which can effectively prevent the dirt and water from entering into the vital components of the vehicle and which at the same time are also less expensive, do not rust and easily replaceable when required.
Object of the Invention:
An object of the present invention is to prevent water from entering the vital vehicle component like an engine.
Another object of the present invention is to use non-rusting water deflectors and mud liners.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide easily replaceable water deflectors.
Still further object of the present invention is to reduce the speed of splashing water in two stages and deflect the water downwards.
The invention is described with reference to the embodiments given hereinafter. It may however be understood that the embodiments only by way of example and that the invention may be exemplified in many other ways obvious to a person skilled in the art.
Description:
Fig. 2 shows water deflector of the present invention with two deflectors namely the primary deflector 204 and the secondary deflector 202 mounted on the liner 200.
One embodiment of the present invention discloses two deflectors (baffle plates) 202 and 204 as shown in fig. 2, which are parallel to the ground and prevent the flow of the water into the engine. Primary deflector 204 prevents entering of the water in the mud liner 200. Inspite of primary deflector 204, even if the water enters the mud liner 200, the secondary deflector 202 further prevents the flow of the water into the air filter, thus preventing the water entering into the engine.
Another embodiment of the present invention discloses the use of primary deflector 204, secondary deflector 202, and mud liner 200, made up of a light material, which is non- rusting and has a longer life than the conventional metallic mud liner.
Another embodiment of the present invention discloses the easily replaceable primary deflector 204 and secondary deflector 202, mounted on the liner 200, which are economical and easy to use.
It is reiterated that the present invention is not limited to the above embodiments. Various other embodiments of the invention will be apparent to a person skilled in the art or follow from routine experimentation.
