FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention is related to weld, overflow detection device for Hub mounting
plate of vehicle and a method of detection of weld overflow.
BACKGROUND /PRIOR ART
In the current scenario, automobile industry is very keen.on cost and weight
_.r_e_ductionr_without- com prom i si n g on —the -performance^—To achieve th is goal
various design optimization efforts are made during the design process.
Thus, there is a need to reduce the cost 85 weight of Torsion beam type Rear
Axle which is one of the heaviest components in the Automobile suspension.
One of the suggestions in the art for rear torsion beam (rear axle) design
optimization is to switch the Hub mounting bracket design from offset
mounting to direct mounting with trailing arm.
In this regard, reference may be made to fig. 1, wherein a bracket (1) is offset
mounted to trailing a rm (2) of the rear axle (A) at both ends of the axle.
Now referring to fig. 2, in which a hub plate (1') is welded to trailing arm (2') of
rear axle (B) at both ends thereof for mounting of rear wheel.
The above provision leads to reduction in weight and cost as compared to the
provision with reference to fig. 1 without compromising on the performance. •
However, it is associated with the disadvantage of weld overflow on the Hub
mounting plate edges due to direct mounting of Hub plate with trailing arm at
an angle for welding (W).
Here, the issue is that, the defect of having additional weld material protruded
out of the plate is not detectable by sensor in case of its existence. Further, it is
difficult to identify by visual inspection by inspector owing to small weld over-

flow. Hence, it necessitates chamfering/machining on edges of the hub plate,
which adds to cost and also consumes more time.
In case hub plate with weld overflow is employed to mount rear wheel, following
problems can be encountered by the user.

- Extra maintenance
- Angular assembly of brake on the hub plate which leads to poor
performance of brake.
A Patent (CN 203629502U) may be discussed, which is directed to a tool for
measurement of excess weld metal of steel. This tool comprises two horizontal
pipes which are disposed at the top of the central axle tube, are parallel to each
other, and are perpendicular to the central axle tube. Two ends of the upper
and lower horizontal pipe are fixedly provided with an internal and external
diameter sliding block which is used for adjusting an upper horizontal plane.
The central and the lower parts of the central axle tube are respectively in
movable connection with an adjustable stainless-steel radius rod through
bolts.
The aforesaid tool is implemented to measure excess weld metal of the inner
wall of the steel, which can't be employed to measure excess weld metal on the
external surface.
In view of the above, there is a requirement to develop a novel device, which
can efficiently check the weld over-flow on the Hub mounting edges.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION |

An object of this invention is to propose weld overflow detection device for Hub !
mounting plate of vehicle which overcomes shortcomings of prior art(s). I
Another object of this invention is to propose weld overflow detection device for
Hub mounting plate of vehicle which detects weld over-flow
Further object of this invention is to propose weld overflow detection device for
Hub mounting plate of vehicle which is simple in construction and compact.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose weld overflow detection device
for Hub mounting plate of vehicle which is cost effective.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided weld overflow detection device for
Hub mounting plate of vehicle comprising a longitudinal member mounted with
a guide pin at an intermediate point of the longitudinal member.

Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings of exemplary embodiments of invention and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: Conventional rear torsion beam(axle) of vehicle
according to a prior art.

accordance with another prior art.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The instant invention makes a disclosure regarding weld overflow detection
device for Hub mounting plate of vehicle and method of detection of weld
overflow.
The device has been illustrated in fig. 3 and 4. Said device of invention
comprises a longitudinal member (1) connected to guide pin (2). The
longitudinal member and guide pin constitutes a rod and a block respectively.
Here, the rod is detachably connected to said block by means of a fastener
such as bolt (3).
The cross-section of the rod can be triangular, rectangular, square, pentagon,
hexagon, octagon etc having a plurality of sharp straight edges. So that the
sharp edges can detect the extra weld material on edges of the h u b plate during
the detection procedure. Here, the provision of circular rod is ruled out as it
would override the extra weld material without detecting the same.
The block (2) is provided with a slot (4) as shown in fig. 4 to receive the rod for
mounting of the block on the rod with the help of the fastener. The slot is
provided on the surface of block directing towards the rod during mounting.

The block, profile of which corresponds to the profile of the opening (hole) (H) in
the hub plate as seen in fig.2. The hole is generally circular, therefore the
profile of the block is cylindrical to facilitate insertion of the block into the hole
for the checking purpose.
The cylindrical block is placed at an intermediate point (P) of the rod as best
seen in fig. 3 and 4. Thus the rod is divided into two portions having length
