DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Till today, the conventional disposable double edge style blade forms a major share of men’s shaving systems market due to its low cost factor. During the recent fast urbanization in India, consumers are expecting low cost system razors provided with most recent features e.g. comfort shave, controlled swivel movement of cartridges, easy loading and unloading of cartridge into handle etc.
Unlike prior art pivoting shaving implements available in market wherein plunger operated with complex construction of razor handle moves to and fro when cam member of cartridge exerts force upon it during shaving.
The proposed invention incorporated cam members 21, 22 in the molded handle itself as integrated member to exert force upon the
integrally molded spring members 41, 42 of seat 4 thereby avoiding complex construction of plunger mechanism and decreasing cost of razor.
Referring to Fig. 1, it will be seen that illustrative complete razor assembly 1 includes system razor handle 2 and a disposable shaving cartridge assembly 3 engaged with razor handle 2 having hand holding portion 2A and cartridge holding portion 2B. The disposable cartridge assembly 3 and system razor handle 2 are interconnected in such manner that cartridge assembly 3 will swivel/rotate on the handle 2 with cam members 21, 22/spring member 41/42 biasing neutral position. The handle holding portion 2A is provided with serrations for gripping purpose and some land may be left for incorporating
logo, if necessary, the cartridge holding portion 2B is mainly meant for holding and controlled swiveling of cartridge 3 to more closely follow the contours of surface being shaved. The disposable shaving cartridge assembly comprising substantially rigid seat part 4, a cap part 5, and blade part 6, blade is held rigidly between seat part 4 and cap part 5 by means of riveting process. The seat part 4 and cap part are of two individual moldings.
Referring to fig.2 it will be seen that illustrative system razor handle 2 and disposable razor blade cartridge assembly 3 includes a seat part 4, cap part 5 and blade part 6. The cap part 5 has longitudinal grooves 5A pips 51 which are extended through openings 61 of blade 6 and through holes 46 of seat 4 and riveted to together firmly.
Seat part 4 provided with integrally molded spring members 41, 42 generally transverse to an axis parallel to the blade edge with oppositely inclined surface. The object of spring member 41, 42 is to resiliently support disposable shaving cartridge assembly 3 during shaving for
comfortable shaving. In neutral position both spring members 41, 42 are in engagement with both cam member of 21, 22 of handle 2.
During shaving, while clockwise swiveling of shaving cartridge assembly 3 over the skin one of spring member 41, 42 in engagement with corresponding cam member to resiliently support the shaving cartridge assembly 3, and urge the other spring member disengaged from its respective cam member 21, 22.
Similarly during anti-clockwise movement of shaving cartridge one of spring member 41, 42 in engagement with corresponding cam member to resiliently support the shaving cartridge assembly 3, and urge the other spring member disengaged with its respective cam member 21, 22.
While neutral position of shaving cartridge assembly 3 both spring member 41, 42 exert pressure on both cam member of 21, 22 of razor handle 2 to force the shaving cartridge to its predetermined swivel position in relation with handle 2.
The cam members 21, 22 are molded integrally in front of the cartridge holding portion 2B of the system razor handle 2. The cam members 21, 22 are made with enough strong structure for repeated usage of system razor handle 2.The cam member 21, 22 are made in such a way that loading of cartridge and removing of cartridge from the handle is made easy.
Referring to fig.3 a plan view and front view of disposable shaving cartridge assembly 3 according to the invention is shown. In accordance with the present invention there is provided a safety razor cartridge assembly comprising a seat part 4 a cap part 5 and a blade 6 with sharpened edges placed between seat part 4 and cap part 5 and then secured together firmly by means of riveting process. In general, single blade shaver i.e. conventional double edge style razor blade edge has more positive protrusion to obtain closer shave, but this leads to nicks
and cuts on skin and to our knowledge, this is due to less area of guard portion in front of blade cutting edge and therefore the proposed invention is provided with elongated guard portion 47 of 3mm to 7mm width (o g b) and to height of (o g h) 2mm to 5mm to well prepare beard and to protect the skin from nicks/cuts. The guard portion 47 width (o g b) is measured along the blade sitting surface from cutting edge of blade to end of guard. The guard portion height is (o g h) is 2mm to 5mm measured parallel to blade sitting surface from blade cutting edge to end of guard portion top surface. The guard portion may have 16-24 cross clear slots 47A and raised ribs 47C in front of the blade cutting edge to prepare beard for smooth, close shaving and for easily cleaning of shaved hair. These clear slots 47A ended at blade sitting portion and other side these cross slots and raised ribs slots are interconnected with longitudinal rib 47B to give enough strength to guard portion. The through clear slots 47A length is 2.5mm to 5mm. These through clear slots 47A length (OSB) is measured along the blade sitting surface from cutting edge of blade to longitudinal rib 47B. In another aspect, the invention features, in general, a shaving cartridge having housing, at least one blade mounted to the housing, and a guard. The guard 47 has a plurality of spaced apart convex faces defining a plurality of longitudinal and lateral clear open slots. The said open slots have a convex lower surface extending between the plurality of projections for smooth glide of the blade over the skin. The projections have a convex upper surface extending generally transverse to the blades from a front face of the guard toward a rearward edge of the guard. The upper surface and the lower surface form a continuous undulating skin contacting surface that extends along the length of the guard parallel to the blades.
The clear - open slots 47A and raised ribs 47C of the guard 47 may manage the skin and hair during a shaving stroke to minimize nicks and cuts while improving cutting efficiency (e.g., less missed hairs during a shaving stroke). The clear - open/through slots (47A) measuring 2.5mm
to 5mm may allow for the unobstructed passage of hair to the blade for close shave. The guard 47 may have an upper surface and a lower surface. The lower surface may be convex and extend between adjacent slots. The upper surface may be convex such that the lower surface and the upper surface forms a continuous undulating skin contacting surface extending along the length of the guard 47 parallel to the blades. The convex lower surface always be in continuous contact with the skin during a shaving stroke. The raised ribs 47C The projections may have a generally circular cross section (e.g., oval).
The disposable shaving cartridge assembly 3 comprising seat part 4, cap part 5 and blade 6 disposed between seat part 4 and cap part 5 to secure firmly together by means of riveting. The cap member behind cutting edge of blade provided with 4 to 6 longitudinal grooves 5A placed parallel to blade cutting edge to reduce friction between skin being shaved and cap part surface to improve shaving comfort. The clear slots ( holes) 47A have been provided for closer shaving and easy removal of long grown hair.
Referring to fig. 4, there is shown a perspective view of disposable shaving cartridge assembly 3 according to the invention. According to this invention, shaving cartridge assembly may be removable and pivotally mounted to a razor handle as when required hence it is desirable to establish the guiding and holding system to create interrelationship between disposable shaving cartridge 3 and system shaving handle 2, hence, opposite face of blade sitting surface of the seat part 4 is provided with two projections 48, 49 having tapered surface 50, 51 in addition to shaft shaped guide members 43, 44, above which there are arc shaped clamp slot 52,53 as a part of holding system. The stopper 54 is extruded from one of guide members 43,44 to prevent reverse loading of cartridge.
The minimum opening distance between tapered surfaces 50, 51 at apexes should be more than the maximum distance of handle clamps
23, 24 hence the clamp 23, 24 may be disposed between tapered surface 50,51 then slides into clamp slot 52,53 while pushing the handle against walls of tapered surface 50, 51 for loading the disposable shaving cartridge. Once the shaving cartridge loaded into handle, it facilitates swivel movement of the shaving cartridge assembly 3 on the razor handle 2. It is known that shaving efficiency of shaving cartridge may be improved if the shaving cartridge is adapted to swivel on the handle, as the cartridge to more closely follow the surface of the skin being shaved.
Once the shaving cartridge mounted upon the handle, the cam members 21, 22 receives bias force exerting from spring member 41, 42 on the handle to establish predetermined position between cartridges and handle in relation with handle longitudinal axis as shown in fig 7.
Referring to fig. 5, there is shown a perspective view of disposable shaving cartridge assembly 3 and system razor handle 2 according to the invention.
In general, any swivel razor handle comprising several parts such as plunger, spring, clamps, one or more handle parts etc and manufacturing technologies viz press tooling, injection molding, assembly of parts etc involves in manufacturing of the razor handle.

Cam members 21, 22 are made with enough strong structure subjected to constant force exerted by spring member 41, 42 for repeated usage of system razor handle 2.The ridge member 25 incorporated on cup shaped clamp members 23,24 to prevent reverse loading of cartridge. During neutral position of cartridge as shown in fig 7 mounted on the handle, both cam member 21, 22 of handle 2 engages the spring member 41, 42 in the seat part 4 in response to biasing force generated by spring member 41, 42 therefore the shaving cartridge remain kept in predetermined position in relation with razor handle longitudinal axis.
The handle cartridge holding portion 2B is provided with clamp member 23, 24 located on either side of handle extending outwardly and they collapse on compression of cartridge holding portion 2B of handle 2.
The razor cartridge assembly 3 is attached to the razor handle 2 by inserting clamp members simultaneously into the clamp slots 52, 53 of the seat part 4. While inserting clamp members into clamp slots the ridge 25 overlap on rib 54 and guide us to load cartridge in right direction.
Referring to fig.7, there is shown a view of system razor handle 2 with external force on the blade the shaving cartridge assembly 3 comprise both spring member 41, 42 exert pressure on both cam member of 21, 22 of razor handle 2 to force the shaving cartridge to its predetermined
swivel position in relation to handle 2 longitudinal axis. The angle formed between blade sitting plane to handle longitudinal axis is nearly 62 degrees + 10 degrees, here we called neutral angle.
Referring to fig.8, and fig.9, there is shown a view of system razor handle 2 with shaving cartridge 3 according to the invention. As the shaving cartridge is adapted to swivel on the razor handle during shaving process, permitting the shaving cartridge assembly to more closely follow the contours of skin being shaved, the shaving cartridge tend to rotate clockwise direction or anti-clockwise direction or remain neutral position, the maximum angle of rotation of shaving cartridge towards clockwise direction, measured between blade sitting plane to handle longitudinal axis is nearly 72 degrees + 7 degrees and anticlockwise rotation is nearly 38 degrees + 7 degrees.
