, Description:“WHEEL LIFTING AND POSITIONING DEVICE IN VEHICLE”
Field of invention
The present invention relates to wheel replacement in vehicles, and more particularly, the present invention relates to a wheel lifting and positioning device in a vehicle to provide human safety, effort and to save time for replacing the wheel.
Background of the invention
It has been observed that people avoid replacement of a punctured wheel or wheel assembly of vehicle even having all tools and jack appliance available within the vehicle. This is because the lifting jack only lifts the chassis frame or axle assembly to get clearance for removes or fit the wheel assembly. However, there is no mechanism available to lift wheel assembly up to the required height and position.
Generally, on road side and even in service stations, replacement of the wheel and wheel assembly is performed manually. During the wheel replacement process, first the jack is placed below the vehicle and chassis frame and axle is lifted to get clearance between ground and wheel. The wheel/wheel nuts are removed and the wheel is removed from the axle studs and put on ground. For fitting a new wheel to the wheel assembly, the entire process is reversed.
As weight of wheel and wheel assembly is approximately 30Kg. lifting and lowering down the wheel assembly is not easy for a person who does not have practice or prior experience. Specifically, it is more difficult to replace wheel assembly for ladies and senior citizen. Specifically, during replacement of wheel, the position of person is not ergonomically suitable. The person is not properly in standing position or sitting position as the person do not get full support from legs or as well as he cannot sit which may lead to back and muscle pain.
Also, matching/aligning the wheel assembly holes in stud is difficult some times because of person standing position hence is a blind operation. The person trying to match the holes wheel assembly with the studs has to keep lifting the wheel assembly. Further, while handling wheel assembly from vehicle to spare wheel mounting position or vie-versa, if the wheel assembly not properly handle (rolling in ground) or in replacement of wheel studs are not properly tightened, the wheel assembly may bounce back and most of time is beyond controllable. Instances of roll down wheel on road or fingers of legs cause major accident.
Accordingly, there exists a need to provide a device/mechanism which overcomes above-mentioned drawbacks.
Objects of the present invention
An object of the present invention is to provide human safety, during wheel changing of a vehicle.
Another object of the present invention is to increase comfort and reduce efforts of an individual changing a wheel of the vehicle.
Summary of the invention
Accordingly in an aspect, the present invention provides a wheel lifting and positioning device for replacing a wheel assembly of a vehicle. The device comprises of a base plat, a compression spring configured on one end of the base plate for compression against foot load, a lever attached thereto for pressing by foot and a bracket connected to the compression spring for holding vehicle wheel assembly. Chassis of the vehicle are lifted by a jack and the compression spring is foot pressed to lower down the bracket attached thereto. The bracket is pushed below the vehicle wheel and the compression spring is released. The wheel nuts are removed from studs, the lever is again lowered down by foot pressing and the wheel assembly is then removed from the device and replaced by the new wheel assembly. When the foot press lever is released, the new wheel assembly is lifted. The height can be adjusted by foot pressing the lever as per requirement so as to locate the wheel rim holes in axle studs. The wheel lifting and positioning device is provided with rollers for easy movement of device from one place to another. A removable platform is also provided for easy loading of the wheel assembly.
Brief description of the figures
The objectives and features of the present invention will be more clearly understood from the following description of the invention taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein,
Figure 1 shows a wheel lifting and position device with vehicle wheel assembly, in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 shows a wheel lifting and position device in accordance with the present invention.
Detailed description of the present invention:
The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with the prior art, techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiment.
The present invention provides a wheel lifting and positioning device for replacing a wheel assembly of a vehicle. When a wheel of a vehicle is to be removed, the chassis / frame is slighted lifted first, using a lifting jack. A lever of the wheel lifting and positioning device of the present invention is lowered down by foot pressing and the device is inserted below the wheel to be removed.
The present invention is illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings, throughout which reference numbers indicate corresponding parts in the various figures. These reference numbers are shown in bracket in the following description.

The device (100) comprises a base plate (10) having a plurality of rollers (60) attached thereto for easy movement of the device (100). In an embodiment, the base plate (10) is rectangular shaped plate capable of bearing the weight of a tyre (90). The base plate (10) is configured with a plurality of grooves for attachment of plurality of rollers (60).
The device (100) further comprises a compression spring (50). The compression spring (50) adapted over a nut and bolt assembly (40). Specifically, the compression is configured on a first end of the base plate (10) for compression against foot load. In an embodiment, the nut and bolt assembly (40) with compression spring (50) includes a lever attached thereto for pressing by foot.
The device (100) furthermore comprises a bracket (30) provided for holding wheel assembly (90). The bracket (30) is connected to the compression spring (50) at one end and to a joint (20) configured on the base plate (10) on other end.
In an embodiment, the bracket (30) is having a curved shape to hold the wheel (90) therein. The bracket (30) serves as a lever cum wheel holding or wheel resting bracket. The bracket (30) is having a plurality of rectangular shaped plates (80), configured at the curved edges of the bracket (30), in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the bracket (30), for avoiding movement of the tyre (90) loaded on the bracket (30).
The device (100) also comprises a platform (70) capable of removably securing to the base plate (10) while loading or unloading the wheel (90), by any one of snap-fit and hook mechanism. The removable platform (70) eases the loading and unloading of wheel on the device (100).
During operation, upon lifting the chassis of the vehicle by a jack, the compression spring (50) is foot pressed to lower down the bracket (30) attached thereto. The bracket (30) is pushed below the wheel (90) to be removed. The wheel nuts are removed from studs, the lever is again lowered down by foot pressing and the wheel assembly is then removed from the device (100) and the vehicle. New wheel is then loaded on the device (100).
When the foot press lever is released, the new wheel assembly is lifted. The height can be adjusted by foot pressing the lever as per requirement so as to locate the wheel rim holes in axle studs. The wheel nuts are tightened and the wheel is fixed in the axle studs of the vehicle.
Advantages of the invention
