PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is
to be performed
FIELD OF INVENTION:
This invention relates to a Wheel Lock Ring Catch. More particularly it relates to a system to prevent accidental flying off a lock ring from wheel rim while inflating newly assembled tyre, which can injure any person nearby.
Background:
In the existing system wheel rim assembly consists of rim with lock ring. The rim is flanged at one end to hold tyre. Other end is flanged by a lock ring. The lock ring has a projected rib on inner surface which gets locked in a groove on the rim and remains in its position due to spring action. The tyre assembly is placed over the rim. Other end of rim is closed by a lock ring. The rib on lock ring gets entangled in the groove and remains in its position. Now the tyre is held between two flanges on the rim. The tyre is inflated to desired pressure before using on vehicle.
Presently there are chances of dislocation of the lock ring from its position. The reasons are, improper assembly of lock ring itself, worn out rib of lock ring or damaged groove on the rim. During inflation, the tyre bulges towards the flanges. The tyre force on the lock ring tries to dislocate it. In such circumstances the dislodged lock ring flies away with great force due to heavy tyre pressure, which has the ability to cause injures to the nearby persons very badly.
While assembling tyres the assembler usually inserts a piece of rod, in the holes / slots on the rim to prevent flying off lock ring. This arrangement is usually not strong enough to withstand the force and may not hold the lock ring. In many instances the rod also gets trapped between tyre and the rim holes after inflation. This causes inconvenience to the assembler and also increases chances of accidents.
OBJECT OF THIS INVENTION:
The main object of the invention is to obviate above mentioned drawbacks.
Another object of the present invention is to provide Wheel Lock Ring Catch system to
prevent accidental flying off a lock ring from wheel rim while inflating newly assembled tyre.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION:
A Wheel Lock Ring Catch comprising a ladder made of two channels, one fixed hook welded on each channel on outer surface in such a way that a sliding box can slide through said ladder longitudinally, said sliding box having an arrangement to hold a spring and a sliding hook, said sliding hook being fixed to said sliding box, two handles-being fixed on said ladder at one end, connecting means to connect said channels.
Stoppers are fixed on top surface of said channels. One end of said sliding block is suitably bent. The fixed hook is provided to hold wheel rim.
Brief Description
Figure 1 shows the isometric view of wheel lock ring catch.
Figure 2 shows the isometric view of wheel lock ring catch attached with wheel rim system
while inflating tyre.
Detailed Description
Referring now to the drawings wherein the showings are for the purpose of illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention only, and not for the purpose of limiting the same. For the convenience of the tyre assembler and to overcome the possibilities of accident wheel lock ring catch can be used. The parts and construction of said catch are as follows
1) A ladder made of two channels,
2) Two hooks welded on channel,
3) A sliding box which can slide through the ladder longitudinally having an arrangement to hold a spring and a sliding hook,
4) A hook being fixed to the sliding box wherein one end of it is suitably bent,
5) A spring being connected to the sliding hook,
6) Two handles being fixed on the ladder,
7) Stoppers being fixed on channels,
8) Spacer tube and hardware assembly connecting two channels.
The channels (1) are suitably connected to each other by spacer tube and hardware assembly (8). Two hooks (2) are welded on web to hold rim. A sliding box (3) slides longitudinally towards and away from the fixed hooks (2). Hook (4) is fixed to sliding box (3). This hook also holds the rim. A tension spring (5) is housed in the ladder, one end connected to the sliding box (3) and another end to spacer tube and hardware assembly. This spring always pulls, sliding box away from fixed hooks. The movement of the sliding box is limited by stoppers (7) welded on the ladder. Two fixed handles (6) on the ladder facilitate the fixing and removing the catch from the rim.
After assembling the tyre on rim, lock ring is to be fixed on it. Subsequently the lock ring is tapped to seat properly in the groove on the rim. Then the tyre assembly is placed on level ground. Before filling air in tyre, said catch is mounted on the rim. While using the tool, one has to hold the catch by handles and slide it over the wheel assembly. The sliding hook on slider enters in round hole and below the rim surface. The tool has to be pushed further. As the tool moves forward, the slider moves towards fixed hooks against spring tension. Till fixed hooks enter in to the rim the hooks are pushed. As the tool is released, both hooks move away from each other, holding the rim from inside. The hooks hold the rim firmly due to spring tension. Then the process of inflating the tyre is started. As the pressure rises, the tyre bulges and its beads push the lock ring outside. Whenever the lock ring dislodges from its seat, the ladder can catch it between rim and does not allow to fly away, thus preventing any accident. After inflating the tyre, the catch is pushed to release the fixed hook from the rim and take away the tool.
The foregoing description is a specific embodiment of the present invention. It should be appreciated that this embodiment is described for purpose of illustration only, and that numerous alterations and modifications may be practiced by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is intended that all such modifications and alterations be included insofar as they come within the scope of the invention as claimed or the equivalents thereof.
We Claim:
