Wind Energy From Running Railway Trains.

Abstract: X. ABSTRACT The invention and novel method of generating electricity by renewable energy- Wind Energy from running Railway Trains - is usehl to produce electricity with out huge expenses, land and extra build infrastructures; by using, wind turbine & generator - mounted (Fig.1) Opon readily available rooftop of railway train coaches running in the open air tracks. The wind flow during the running of trains is higher, according to the speed of the train, creates wind power in many folds and spins the blades with Rotor of Wind Turbine. It rotates turbine shaftconnected to the Gear Box. The gear box increases the rotation and spins the generator shaft; hence the generator produces electrical power (Fig.2). Electricity produced by this novel method is cheaper, economic, quick, safe, pollution-free and technically utilizing high velocity of wind flow and by converting into the wind power of many folds during the running of railway coaches.

By the incoming wind generates a force called lift on the blades, causing the rotor
to rotate according to the speed of the train; spins the Rotor (hub) and its blades
of the 'Wind Turbine', mounted on the rooftop of coach bodies of railway trains
running in the open air track, makes the turbine shaft spins; it is connected with
gear box and rotates the high speed generator shaft and hence, the generator
produces electrical power. Thus, kinetic energy of wind is converted into
mechanical and electrical power.
111. BACKROUND OF THE INVENTION WITH REGARD TO THE
DRAWBACK ASSOCIATED WITH KNOWN ART
Millions of people in the world are in the need of electrical power for their better
living. Different power generation/production methods or systems are existing in
the world. Wind Energy -A Renewable Energy- is one of the main sources. Wind
Energy has been used since 3000 BC, in the world for sailing and other purposes.
Wind turbines are erected in different countries in various places by using larger
area of land with heavy structures to produce electricity.
Many kinds of electricity generation systems are in the world needed larger
infrastructures and sufficient capital investment.
Wind energy based electrical power production in the mobile train is a unique method
and a novel technological step in the world. It needs no extra infrastructure and huge
capital. It is produced up on readily available mobile structure. Wind turbines are erected
upon the rooftop of railway coach bodies. So, there is no need of large area of land or
any infrastructures.
The cost of generation per unit is also an important factor in the world. Huge capital and
heavy infrastructures with vast area of land and other needed sources are adding the
expenses of electricity production.
Where as this novel and inventive method of renewable energy, needs no land and extra
buildup infrastructures. The project cost is very low comparing to others.
The cost of production per unit electrical power is very low by this novel method from
the mobile railway train coaches, comparing to any other method or methodology of
generating electrical power in the world.
Commissioning of other power projects taking long period; where as the novel
method of producing electricity in the mobile train project takes very short period
comparatively.
In the existing system, one of the greatest challenges associated with wind power
is the un-predictable character of the wind. There are variations in the speed and
direction of the wind which affects the ability of the wind turbine to deliver the
power.
Where as wind turbines fitted on the rooftop of the railway train coaches, have
certain speed or velocity of the wind as per running speed of the train.
This novel method of electricity production is totally eco-friendly and with out
any pollution and by maintaining enviroiimental norms.
So, there is no exact prior art in the world.
IV. OBJECT OF INVENTION:
The generation of electricity in the mobile trains has no need of extra
infrastructures.
It has no need of huge capital investtnent:
The existinn technolonv of producing electricity - by nuclear energy, thermal
power, hydro-power, solar energy and many other kinds - is needed larger
geographical area and huge infrastructures
The project cost of nuclear energy, theimal power, hydro-power, solar energy
etc is higher than this novel methodJproject.
The novel method of producing electricity in the mobile railway trains is
, .. cheap.
It is eco-friendly, pollution free and has no environmental dangers.
This novel project of producing electricity in the running vehicle is helpful to
utilize the power including for the same moving vehicle.
Railway coaches can utilize the air turbine produced power, to charge the heavy
batteries and save the fuel; thus the engine and whole train coaches can consume
power from itself also.
Wind Turbines erection on the mobile body and particularly in the open air route
running railway train coaches are very inventive and novel method in the world.
The erection of Wind Turbines up on the railway coach body is very easy and
with out any extra construction of basic infrastructures.
Air flow and its velocity during the running of coaches of a train in the open air
track are higher than the normal air flow in the field of wind turbine erected. So,
high speed rotation of wind turbines mounted up on railway coaches can produce
more electrical power.

VI. SUMMERY OF INVENTION
The electrical power can be easily produced by taking the advantage of this novel
and unique system and inventive technological method of using 'Wind Energy'
with out huge capital, land and extra infrastructure.
The produced electric power is transmitted to the power grid lines specially
constructed with the railway linesltracks. Part of power production can also be
consumed in the running train itself if needed.
Production of electricity varies from train to train, according to its speed, number
of coaches and the route of running.
The demand of electricity is in all over the worldluniverse, particularly by
renewable energy and cheapest electrical power is required for the human
society, as well as to save the environmental system also. On this concept the
'Wind Energy from Running Railway Trains' is best alternate in the world.

VIII. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH

the manner in which, it is to be performed.

It comprises,
A) Mounting base or bed ( 1 is fixed upon a roof of railway coach body, is
suitable to erect the wind turbine and other accessories
B) Wind Turbine with Rotor (2) attached with pitch and blades (3) is fixed in
the mounting base.
C) Turbine shaft (4), is main and low speed shaft, connected to the Gear Box.
D) Gear Box (5), is between Wind Turbine shaft and Generator shaft to
increase the speed.
E) Generator Shaft (6), is high speed shaft rotated by the Gear Box.
F) Generator (7), is to produce electrical power
G) Controller (8) to prevent the damage
H) Turbine Break (9) to stop spins, whenever required

By using Wind Turbines - mounted upon the top roof of running Railway train
coach bodies with the body side support of the front and back side of the coach.;
the Rotor and Blades of Wind Turbine spins the turbine shaft according to the air
flow and speed of the train. The turbine shaft is connected with the Gear Box,
which spins the Generator shaft with high speed and hence, the Generator
produces electricity. In another word wind turbine converts kinetic energy in the
wind into mechanical and electrical energy.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Railway train coach body
(12) is available as a ready made structure in many countries where ever railway
existing in the world for multipurpose uses, can be utilized for carrying the Wind
Turbine also. The front side (rail engine side faced) and the back side (rail guard
side faced) of the coach is used give the full support of the turbine shaft, gear
box, generator shaft and other accessories. The location of front and back side
changes or reversed when the engine of the rail changes its direction.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Mounting Base or Bed (1) is
fitted on rooftop of train coach body with front or back side support of the coach
to erect the Wind Turbine. It is a metallic or any other strong material made base
to face the force of high speed wind flow and suitable to carry the load of wind
turbine and its accessories.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Rotor or Hub (2) is attached
with pitch and Blades (3) to take and face the kinetic power of wind for its
rotation. The Rotor is fixed vertically and the blades are rotating horizontally. It
can also be reversed as per requirements and the Rotor can be fitted horizontally
and the blades can be arranged to spin vertically if needed and designed so, with
some necessary arrangements.
The blades are designed like wise to make the rotation in a same direction even in
the case of Rail Engine reverses its running direction.-The design of blades can be
changed as per requirements and as decided in time to time for the better
rotations.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Turbine Shaft - Low Speed
Shaft-(4) is to spin according to Rotor speed. It is mechanically fitted vertically in
the front (engine side faced) and backside (guard side faced) of the coach from
top to bottom position. If the rotor fitted in the horizontal, then the turbine will
also in horizontal position.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Gear Box (5) is connected
with turbine shaft. Various speed gears arranged in the gear box or as required
and according to the needed design. Iii some cases the gear box may not be
required and the turbine shaft itself replaces the generator shaft, by doing the
same work.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Generator Shaft-High Speed
Shaft-(6), is rotated by the Gear Box. It is required to step up the speed of turbine
shaft through gear box to rotate the generator. It is fitted vertically in the same
direction of the turbine shaft. It can be fitted in horizontal direction, by arranging
the gear box with bevel gears to transmit the vertical rotation of the turbine shaft
into horizontal rotation.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Generator (7) with all
necessary arrangements, is one of the main parts of Wind Turbine to produce
electricity. It is made with required standard norms with all necessary parts.
Generator is rotated by generator shaft to produce the electricity. It uses in
general, the properties of electromagnetic induction to produce electrical voltagea
different in electrical charge. ~oltage'ise ssentially electrical pressure-it is the
force that moves electricity, or electrical current, from one point to another. So,
generating voltage is in effect generating current.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Generator consists of
magnets and a conductor. The conductor is a coiled wire. Inside the generator, the
shaft connects to an assembly of permanent magnets that surrounds the coil of
wire. When rotor spins the shaft, the shaft spins the assembly of magnets,
generating voltage in the coil of wire. That voltage drives electrical current
(typically alternate current, or AC power) out through power lines for
distribution.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Controller (8) is fitted to
prevent damage to the wind turbine and prevent damage to the load as well as to
maximize power production.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Turbine Break (9) is to stop
the rotation of Shafts. It is used to stop the process of Wind Turbine, whenever
needed; during any fault or repair or maintenance period or to stop the power
supply for any reasons or in unavoidable conditions also, there is a need to stop
function of the turbine by using the Break.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Electrical Grid or Power
Line (1 0) is for distribution/supply of electricity produced by the Generator.
In still another embodiment of the present invention the power line also
connected for the storage of power in the batteries, if needed.
In still another embodiment of the present invention Housing or Nacelle (1 1) is
for covering and safety of Wind Turbine and other accessories.
(The invention is described in the following pages and the salient feature of
the instrument is described fully and completely.)
FUNCTION OF THE NOVEL PROJECT

The exploded view of the Wind Turbine mounted upon the rooftop of the running
railway train coach body (12) with Rotor, blades and necessary parts, facing open
air flow. It is erected on the mounting b&e (I), which is especially fitted upon the
coach body for this purpose.
Railway train coach bodies are available in many states/countries in the world; it
has been build for passengers and other transportation purposes in general. It is
ready made and easily available structure; which can also be utilized for the
production of energy - electrical power for mankind,human society in the world.
The coach body has sufficient surface to erectlmount the Wind Turbine on its
rooftop.
The Mounting Base (1) is fixed both sides on the rooftop of the railway coach to
erect the Wind Turbine and all its accessories with required parts. The Mounting
Base holds all these, in all running conditions of the railway train and its coach.
The Wind Turbine also erected on both sides of rooftop of the coach. At least two
Wind Turbines - one on each side - can be fitted on a coach to operate.

The RotorIHub (2) of the Wind Turbine is fitted vertically in the mounting base
and spins in the same manner according to the kinetic power applied on the
blades (3). When the train and coach takes its running movement, natural air flow
added with speedy motion based on train's speed the kinetic energy of wind and
its force called lift on the blades, causing the rotor to rotate.
The blades are rotating in horizontal direction. It is designed just cup like curved
shape so as to keep its rotation in a same direction, even in the to-fro movement
of the coach changes its direction. The design of the blades can be changed as per
requirement or as decided.
The Turbine Shaft - Low Speed Shaft-(4) is to spin according to Rotor. It is a
main shaft. Turbine Shaft is connected 10 the Gear Box (5). When Rotor spins,
the Turbine Shaft also rotates. It is vertically fitted with rotor.
The Gear Box (5) is operated by the rotation of Turbine Shaft. The Gear Box is
helpful to increase the speed or as required speed or as designed; according to
this, the gears are fitted and arranged in side of the box. The gearbox steps up the
revolutions from the low-speed shaft and the Rotor, to the high speed shaft of the
generator.
The Generator Shaft (6) is also fitted in the vertical position. It can be fitted or
arranged to fix in horizontal manner, if needed or designed so; the gear box and
the gears are to be fixed according to this. It is operated and rotated by the Gear
Box as per required or decided speed. The rotation of Generator Shaft helps to
produce electricity by the Generator (7). Generator is working as per existing law
and rules of Physics.
Naturally available Solar system a d S d s beaming rays heat the Earth, but not
evenly. Many attributes of the Earth - such as its atmosphere, topography, bodies
of water, rotation and other factors - contribute to uneven heat distributions,
which create air movement, or wind. Wind turbines are used to generate
electricity from the kinetic power of the wind.
On this basis, when the Railway train coach moves in the open air; the wind force
acts with more kinetic power according to the speed of the train. Kinetic power of
wind becomes many folds due the running speed of the train coaches and its force
called lift on the blades, causing the rotor to rotate. The blades are mounted to the
central hub at a pitch, or angle. Blade rotation causes gears to spin inside a
transmission system contained within the turbine.
The spinning rotor then turns the low speed rotor shaft which is connected to the
gear box. The gear box rotates the generator shaft - high speed shaft - and
generator produces electricity. Thus, generator then converts the spinning gear
motion into electricity.

IX. CLAIMS:
We claim,
(1) The novel and inventive method of generating electricity by renewable
energy- Wind Energy from running Railway Trains - by using 'Wind
Turbines' and generators - mounted upon the rooftop of running railway train
coaches, running in the open air tracks are for and useful,
To produce electrical power with low expenses,
To produce electrical power of cheaper,
To produce electricity without any pollution,
To produce electricity eco-friendly,
To produce electricity safely,
To produce electricity quickly,
To produce electrical power with out wasting project period,
To produce electrical power with out land and extra infrastructures
To produce electrical power in a readymade structure,
To produce electricity in running railway trains,
To produce electrical power with out constructing heavy structures,
To produce electricity without huge capital investments,
To produce electricity by utilizing the natural flow with additional high speed
flow of wind created during the running of railway train coaches,
Said novel method 'Wind Energy from the running Railway Trains'
Comprises,
A) Mounting base or bed (1) is fixed upon a roof of railway coach body, is
suitable to erect the wind turbine and other accessories
B) Wind Turbine with Rotor (2) attached with pitch and blades (3) is fixed in
the mounting base.
C) Turbine shaft (4), is main and low speed shaft, connected to Gear Box.
D) Gear Box (5), is between Wind Turbine shaft and Generator shaft to
increase the speed of the Geneiator shaft
E) Generator Shaft (6), is high speed shaft rotated by the Gear Box
F) Generator (7), is to produce electrical power
G) Controller (8) to prevent damage
H) Turbine Break (9) to stop the rotation
I) Electrical GridPower line (1 0) for proper distribution,supply
J) Housing (1 1) or Nacelle for covering and safety of the Wind Turbine and
other accessories
K) Railway Train coach (12) to carry the wind turbine &
All other necessary parts and accessories of turbine and generator
operations,
By using Wind Turbines - mounted upon the rooftop of running Railway train
coach bodies and utilizing the kinetic energy of the wind, makes the rotation of
the Blades with pitch and Rotor of Wind Turbine and spins the turbine shaft
according to the air flow with the speed of the train. The turbine shaft is
connected with the Gear Box, spins the Generator shaft with high speed and the
Generator converts the spinning gear motion into electricity.
(2). The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (I), wherein the invention of renewable energy by method of producing
electricity with out using land and heavy infrastrucres and only on the readily
available structures in all over the world is low cost proiect. It is produced on the
rooftop of running railway train coach bodies, by erecting the wind turbine upon
it, with out constructing extra big structures and their foundations.
(3).The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (I), wherein the invention of renewable energy by method of producing
electricity of low cost or cheaper. The cost of project is very low, only by using
the mobile train coach bodies. The cost of land and construction of wind tower
and basic structures are not needed in this novel process. Huge investment is
saved in this way. The trains running in the open tracks and its coaches with wind
turbines are capable to utilize the maximum kinetic energy of wind comparing to
other wind turbines erected in the open land or upon other non-mobile structures.
Hence, the cost of production is low, project cost is low and the production high
in comparisons.
(4). The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (I), wherein the invention of renewable energy by method of producing
electricity by using wind turbine erected upon the rooftop of running railway
train coach body is eco-friendly and without aw pollution. In general the wind
energy and wind turbines are not disturbing the environmental norms;
particularly using train coaches, there is no harmful to the land, water and other
natural sources as well as atmosphere.
(5). The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (I), wherein the invention of renewable energy, by method of producing
electricity is very quick and safe; erectihg the wind turbines on easily available
ready made structure of train coach bodies taking very low period, comparing to
erect wind turbines on the land and other places. There is no need to locate the
vast area of land and waste the period of project to construct and erect the tower
and other infrastructures. Erection process of wind turbine upon train coach body
is very easy. It is also safe; because of its erection up on rooftop is safer place
with out any damage and disturbances from any other structures and livelihoods.
(6). The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (I), wherein the invention of renewable energy, by method of producing
electricity from running railway train coaches is beneficial to gain more kinetic
power of wind.
In addition to the natural power of wind flow, the speedy movement of train
coach creates more air turbulence and velocity, is helpfid to produce more kinetic
power in the open air track; it converts into mechanical and electrical energy, by
rotating the blades and rotor of wind turbine.
(7). The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (1) & (6), wherein the invention of renewable energy, by method of
producing electricity from running railway trains, a novel and inventive step to
utilize the maximum kinetic power of wind available during the running of the
railway trains. The speed of the moving train coach increases the kinetic energy
or wind energy. It maximizes the, rotating speed of turbine blades, rotor and
turbine shaft; it helps to spin the shaft and generator with high speed
through gear box, to produce more elect~cityT. he speed of train and its coaches
varies, train to train.
(8). The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (I), wherein the invention of renewable energy method of producing
electricity from running railway trains is an important step to utilize the wind
energy in many folds as per laws.
Wind energy is kinetic energy of an air motion. Total wind energy flowing
through an imaginary area 'A' during the time t is:
Where p is the density of air: v is wind speed: Avt is the volume of air passing
through A (which is considered perpendicular to the direction of the wind): Avtp
is therefore the mass m passing per unit time. Note that ;1pv 2is t he kinetic energy
-
of the moving air per unit volume.
Power is energy per unit time, so the wind power incident on A (e.g. equal to the
rotor area of a wind turbine) is:
Wind power in open air stream is thus proportional to the third power of the
wind speed; the available power increases 'eight fold' when the wind speed
doubles.
Railway train and its coaches are under high speed during the travel as per
engine speed; thus, the wind speed also in many folds. It helps naturally to
increase the speed of wind in many-folds. The high speed of wind and its kinetic
energy converts mechanical energy to produce more and more electrical power.
(9). The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (1) & (S), wherein the invention of renewable energy, method of producing
electricity by wind power from running railway trains is, without huge capital
investments and without wasting longer period for commissioning of proiect. It is
eco-friendly and cheaper in comparisons; because of its installation on readily
and easily available structure of train coach bodies, without any extra costing.
(10). The novel and inventive method of producing electricity as claimed in the
claim (I) & (9), wherein the invention of renewable energy, method of producing
electricity by wind power from running railway trains is, economic by installing
wind turbines on readily and easily available rooftop of railway coaches. At least
two wind turbines - one in the front side (engine faced side) of right half part and
another in the backside (guard van side faced) left half part of a coach - are
possible to install on each coach means, 'a train contains five to twenty coaches
can carry minimum ten to forty wind turbines to produce sufficient
electrical power is more beneficial and economical.
