Abstract: A wireless communication system (1) comprising a transmitting device (100) and a receiving device (200). The transmitting device (100) includes: a coding unit which generates a first bit string by performing convolutional coding on information bits on the basis of a coding rate; a bit erasing unit which erases one or more bits from the first bit string for every predetermined first number of bits and generates a second bit string; and a modulation unit which generates a symbol by modulating the second bit string. The receiving device (200) includes: a demodulation unit which calculates a plurality of first reliabilities that are reliabilities of a plurality of bit strings that the symbol can take; a likelihood extension unit which generates a plurality of second reliabilities by generating a plurality of extended bit strings that are bit strings composed of a first number of bits, and assigning a plurality of duplicated first reliabilities to the reliabilities of the plurality of extended bit strings; and a decoding unit which creates a trellis diagram using the code rate and the plurality of extended bit strings, and respectively assigns the plurality of second reliabilities to a plurality of branches in the trellis diagram.
