List of documents required for New Passport

A passport is an authorised paper issued by a state, permitting the identity and citizenship of the holder and allowing them to travel subject to protection to and from foreign countries. For the issuance of a new passport and renewal, a specified process is followed with certain documents.

What are the documents required for the passport?

The documents for the issuance of the new passport are as follows:

  • Photocopy of passbook of the bank account in use, in any private sector bank, public sector bank, and regional rural banks.
  • The identification and residential proof - photocopies of voter ID card, PAN card, Aadhaar card, electricity bill or rent agreement, proof of gas connection, driving license, landline or postpaid mobile bill, spouse’s passport 
  • Income Tax assessment order
  • Edeucatioal certificate
  • Birth certificate 
  • Policy Bond issued by the insurance company.

What are the documents required for the renewal of the passport?

For the renewal, the following documents are required to be submitted to the authority:

  • Self-attested photocopy of the first two and last two pages of the old original passport
  • ECR/Non-ECR page
  • If there is any validity extension, a photocopy of that page
  • Page of observation (if any) made by Passport Issuing Authority.

How to apply for a new passport online?

To apply for a new passport online, the following steps are followed:

Step One: The applicant must register on Passport Seva Portal and login.
Step Two: Click on the "Apply for Fresh Passport" option. There you get the option of reissue if required.
Step Three: Provide the required details in the form and click on submit.
Step Four: On submission, click the "Pay and Schedule Appointment" option to schedule an appointment at Passport Seva Kendra. Make sure you locate the nearby Passport Seva Kendra and appear there on the scheduled date.
The Payment can be made online through a Credit/Debit Card, Internet Banking or SBI Bank Challan.
Step Five: Take a print of the receipt of the application for the Application Reference Number (ARN) or Appointment Number
Step Six: Visit the Passport Seva Kendra along with original documents.
